I really, really, really like Al's idea, in a give-HR-2-Post-It's-one with-arse-written-on-it-the-other-with-elbow kinda way.

I hope many people agree.

Regards, Stew

I'm all for Scott's idea because it will cause elitism that is noticible in the game. We have all read someone else's whining about how Perplex City if favored toward Unfiction warranted or not. We have no way to control posts of other players and we shouldn't even try. If it's TINAG is true than

What I don't understand is why these problematic posts were put up in the first place. MC obviously can edit than why allow it? Any rays of enlightenment thrown my way would help. Thanks;

Probably to point us in the right direction. If my previous post is what MC are after us doing to solve this, then by telling us we can't post as existing people is a hint as to what we need to do.

Course, I could be wrong.

The idea of posting a collaboative post was what I tried suggested on Friday but with no real degree of success.

I am quite new here and realise that other people who may or may not be part of the UF community may go ahead and post regardless and have there own deep seating feeling towards the community - rightly or wrongly - Ive seen the posts. However, as a relatively new member I do not see this as elitist simply the ethos of how I have come to understand the UF community spirit - one of coolaboration - working together to the greater good of the game and I would certianly feel no ill should someone suggest that the posts I suggested where lame (although I would hope for a degree of positive critisism!) As it was I held back from posting because I felt it would be beneficial to get the feedback of players in the UF community who have slightly more experience and as such would welcome any comments.

I have found the whole community great in understand and solving the puzzles set in perplexcity and while I still a little behind I hope to be able to contribute more as I get to grips with it more (especially on the new wave of cards and those pesky silvers I still havent got!)

In a nut shell I can see no harm if we agree on a collective post - sure others will post but we may as well use our opportunities wisely afterall we will all be there to see the results as will anyone who does not wish to participate in the community.

Sorry this may sound all soap boxish but I think as a community its good to work together.

I will go and burn my soap box now.

Remember Penguins may be made of chocolate but we have biscuit in us too.

I propose an approval system for UF postings to the intranet.

While it may sound great on paper, I'm not so sure this would be a great idea in practice.

First, I have been through a number of ARGs and every time this idea comes up in one form or another, it simply never works. You get people outside of UF or people on UF that don't agree with the process or the result of the process. They end up emailing Sente. Or Helena. Or Violet. Or The Advisor. The puppetmasters end up having to ignore these messages (which they'd have to do whether or not we had a parliament) or they have fun with them and work them into the tapestry of the story somehow, sometimes with adverse results (but who's to say that those results wouldn't have happened anyway?)

Second, I think an approval system just sets everyone up for the squashing of potentially useful ideas. With "quantitative" puzzles, you know whether or not you have the right answer. With more "qualitative" situations (like who to talk to and what to say to them), there is no easy way to gauge the "right" answer. It is pretty easy to engage your tunnel vision and write off slightly offbeat (but potentially correct) responses as being incorrect.

I wasn't suggesting we would act as monitors of non-UF posts at all; that would be ludicrous, let alone impossible. Of course others are out there playing. I was only proposing a system of control for within UF.

But I totally see how group dynamics would fudge it up, so I concede. Better plans exist, and have been said. It's been tried and generally failed. Just wanted a system so we know what's going in the 'net, and Scott's "just nothing wacko" system does that simply and cleanly.

I'm glad we can come to a civil agreemen through intelligent discussion.

ooh I say

Anyway just out of interest did anyone post anything? WOuld be nice to know as a few new posts have appeared and if these are ones we can identify as in anyway internal we know these to be staff who we can not use as possible post candidates. If we are to use new names are these the 3 I mentioned earlier or are we to assume we use bogus names as suggested by Al?

Violet's on the case:

Quote:
Hesh poker night
Category: me
Time: 07:23 PM

Had a rather interesting evening yesterday, catching up with Kurt - Miranda was out somewhere, so he found himself at a loose end. He finally filled me in on the exploits you guys have been involving him in. It's all rather intriguing but I can't help feeling worried for him. After all, he's in trouble with the law now, which can't be good. Still, I agreed to help him - he told me that he needs to find out who produced the Viard CD which was sent over to Earth, and which contained the message which got him into all this trouble. Someone else had emailed me earlier to say that there's a poker game between Hesh employees every Monday night. So, I'm heading over to Brain Bender later tonight to see what I can winkle out of them over a friendly game of poker. Or, if it turns out the games aren't so friendly, maybe I can pick up a few lecks. I'll let you know how it goes.

About time she updated too!

Well, MC have a set time-plan for all the keypoints of the story for the next month or so, and we're just taking far too long to get anything, so they drip-feed us the answer via Violet...oh well, it'll be interesting to dig around in the private filesystem. I wouldn't call it a cop out, more like a 'we are too slow and/or lazy to make enough progress' situation.

We're collectively compassionate. Cool We didn't want to bother the poor girl after that death at work. So, you see, reality (TINAG) forced us against our better judgement to send Violet out when she is still emotionally damaged. Cruel world. Wink

Ah, I guess we should have remembered the healing powers of beating people at poker and winning a ton of money. Cool

Oh I thought these guys were here to do our bidding anyway? lol

I must admit this file server thing has stumped everyone, so perhaps for the sake of the game it was a good job MC has "drip-fed" us with the next step or at least a better chance of working it out.

Smile
