My exams are coming up too...

been browsing the ARG bizz for a while now, but this is the first time I'll be playing.

Everytime I say something stupid, check my post count Cool .

Also: when do I need to post in spoiler mode? Whenever I read stuff of which I'm fairly certainly is a clue?

Anyway: what's with Benjamin Franklin's Stove? I was randomly following google links about WiBS (and it being an ad thing etc.) on google, and talk about BF popped up everywhere (and I don't mean the sites about BF himself) ... someone talking about the 'comic' writings in BF's biography... him being somewhat of a nut etc..

Man, I hate how I always seem to find one of these just as I'm about to go back to Uni (and end up not having any spare time). Oh well, I'll try my best.
I have nothing else to add to the conversation yet, but I'll be doing my best.

We mostly just use spoiler space to hide answers to puzzles, or if something big occured in the story and we want to give people a chance to see for themselves rather than reading it on here.

Well, it's not Ben Franklin stove. We're looking for a guy called Ben Stove, who is the crazy one, not the blog writer. Tucker Darby writes the blog (which is a great piece of writing) but he's not necessarily a nut. If you're interested in catching up on this, make sure you read Tucker's blog, debunkette's blog and the pinned topics on the forums. The rest of the endless inane chatter on the forum you can easily skip.

I really hope they are planning to speed things up. After all the fast paced puzzle solving in OrbiCon, WIBS feels like dodging bullets in the Matrix Wink

I don't know about this game and I assume it will be different in many respects from the game The Art of the Heist. I would point out that, in the ARt of the Heist, things didn't start moving in terms of game action until about day 19 or so. If you look at a flash the agency prepared about that game, you can see the timeline. (as well as forum members who participated in live events, Jason, j5 and the chicago boat crew)

Btw: the flash presentation helped the campaign win awards as described by Dave Szulborski in this post

HOLY #$@%! I just checked out the AotH flash presentation, and there, clear as day, on Day 22, is me! Well, if you go to Day 22, there's a post by me on the AotH forums! THATS AWESOME!!!!!

Whew!

Now, as for WIBS. I'm curious to know how many people in the other forum are Puppets, like maybe all the people with creepy stories to tell. Or maybe they're just pulling our legs?

Well, we know that Tucker, and debunkette are puppets, anybody else? (I haven't been looking much at the other forum, so if anyone has noticed anything...)

Well, I'm not in-game and both my stories are guaranteed 100% true. Smile

Actually, as i read them yours were the ones that seemed...uh...most plausible. Ok, thats not what i mean at all. Hmm. Basically, some of the other posters were kinda suspiciously potential puppet-like....yeah.

Ok, on that note, if we consider Puppet Masters the people running the game, and Puppets the characters in the game, what does that make us? My choice of word is Puppeteers (though im sure i can come up with something better...maybe), because we are kinda between the Masters and the puppets, sometimes controlling the Game, sometimes being controlled (i guess) by the Masters running the game.

Oh, i forgot. None of this is real...or is it? Wink

We aren't puppeteers. We're puppets too. With a little more free will than the characters controlled by the PMs.

Well, this is getting a bit off topic, but i guess the metaphor doesn't really work. I mean, Puppets can't really influence the play, but in our case, we are essentially integral in advancing the storyline. As well, in some ARGs, players have changed the storyline enough that the PMs have had to rewrite the story to fit the players' actions (take the Coachella mission in The Art of the Heist). In a way, i'd say we're almost like an audience who can reach in and tweak the play as it goes. The play doesn't start untill the audience is there, and some people come in late, some people kinda pay attention to the play, and some leave early (just like players across the spectrum of ARGing). This is one of the reasons i've allways liked to compare Alternate Reality Games as being somewhat similar to interactive theatre.

Just so i don't get Trout, i'm gonna say that if anyone has anything they want to add to this, then could they get a mod to make a new thread about the Puppet Metaphor?

Hi all,

I am new to the unfiction forums (and new to ARGs also). I've been on the WIBS site for awhile now and just noticed a link to the forums over here (posted by Phaedra on the WIBS forums). It's fascinating and has me hooked so far. I'll chime in if I have anything to add.

p.s. sorry to Rowan for contributing to the OOG forum on the WIBS site. I didn't know there was another forum until last night. Smile Hopefully I didn't cause you more work over there.

Welcome, sid! The more the merrier. And Rowan LIKES work. No worries there. (It's the only explanation for why she would agree to moderate two sets of forums...)

I'm kinda wondering about ScapeSkate.

He only posted in the thread linked above, and it almost seems like it was done to give evidence of Tucker's life outside the forum: he sounds like someone who knows Tucker, and is using the forum to invite him out for beer. Not that that probably matters, as I doubt he'll be back.

Speaking of which, is that (your avatar, I mean) Kiki from Sluggy Freelance, Rowan?
(sorry if this is 'off topic', just let me know and I'll use a private message instead Smile )
