No, us good guys are waiting for something.
What? Well, can't say.

But this is more likely a slow spot than an implosion.

Well, that thing we were waiting for, isn't coming.
John cancelled it.

So... now what?
(I ask this to both sides.)

By the by, I just had a chat with our good friend MurderedGenius.

Here's the transcript:

Quote:
Fitz Kreiner: Hello.

MurderedGenius: Greetings.

Fitz Kreiner: I'm a freind of Rusty's. I was wondering how things are going.

MurderedGenius: Things are going quite well.

MurderedGenius: Why do you ask?

Fitz Kreiner: Just wanted to be sure all was well. Glad to hear they are.

MurderedGenius: Yes.

MurderedGenius: How is Rusty? I haven't seen him in quite a while.

Fitz Kreiner: Last I heard, he was doing well. Although there are concerns about security - there are rumors that certain elements have been . . . indiscreet.

MurderedGenius: Oh?

MurderedGenius: Please elaborate.

Fitz Kreiner: Well, some suspect that there may be a mole around, and that others may be in collusion with the mole.

MurderedGenius: A mole? On who's side?

Fitz Kreiner: We're not sure. He may be on our side, in collusion with the opposing force, or - as some speculate - an agent of third faction.

Fitz Kreiner: That is, a third faction.

MurderedGenius: First, a question.

MurderedGenius: Who's side are you on?

Fitz Kreiner: Well, I am as yet undecided. The information currently available seems biased - almost propaganda-esque, portraying you as a force akin to, say, Chancellor Victor Sopot from Red Faction II. But other information is skewed the opposite way - portraying your opponents in a similar light.

MurderedGenius: That is expected.

Fitz Kreiner: Indeed. As a wise man said, "control the media, control the mind."

MurderedGenius: Melvin Durai?

Fitz Kreiner: Well, I was thinking more along the lines of Sun-tzu. He states in his book The Art of War that "destroying an enemy's cities is second best, capturing them is best." The most common wya to capture a city is to capture the hearts and minds of its citizens, and the easiest way to do that is to influence their media.

MurderedGenius: Ah.

MurderedGenius: At any rate, I leave it up to you to decide.

Fitz Kreiner: Well, in my analysis of the information gathered, I decided that the best method of evaluation would be to speak with what appear to be the representatives of the forces at play. Mind you, judging by what I've discovered, your . . . counterpart, shall we say . . . seems exceedingly naieve.

MurderedGenius: That is true.

MurderedGenius: John makes mistakes. He always has.

MurderedGenius: What I can promise you, if you choose to aid me, is complete obscurity after everything is said and done.

MurderedGenius: By simply sending me an instant message, you've already been targeted by the US government.

Fitz Kreiner: In this day and age, who hasn't? They wiretap Greenpeace members these days, for crying out loud . . .

MurderedGenius: It's not so safe as Greenpeace.

MurderedGenius: You obviously have knowledge of Project Ashcroft.

MurderedGenius: They can't afford to let you live.

Fitz Kreiner: I have heard a few things, yes. But a lot of it seems to be, well . . . vapor. Dead ends. Almost like Roswell and Area 51, or so the conspiracy theorists would have you believe.

MurderedGenius: Area 51...how amusing.

MurderedGenius: Area 51 is a distraction from things like Project Ashcroft.

Fitz Kreiner: A front, as it were.

MurderedGenius: No, no.

Fitz Kreiner: No?

MurderedGenius: Area 51 was made to keep the conspiracy theorists busy.

MurderedGenius: It doesn't have any relation to Ashcroft.

Fitz Kreiner: Ah. More like a dummy, then.

MurderedGenius: Yes.

Fitz Kreiner: Interesting. While everyone else is focused on "z0mg alien invasions!!!111!1eleventyone", they're working on something that's truly black.

MurderedGenius: Heh, yes. Interesting use of numbers, there.

Fitz Kreiner: It's a fairly common technique, usually used for humorous effect. It's a derivative of a simple cipher system known as "leet speak". So simple, in fact, that just about anyone is able to crack it.

MurderedGenius: 0 r1y? 1 d1d n07 kn0w 7h47. H0w 4mu51ng!!1!1!1!1!!1!shift+one.

Fitz Kreiner: y@, rly. lolololololozorz. But i digress.

MurderedGenius: Yes.

MurderedGenius: Remind me never to do that again.

Fitz Kreiner: Well, one thing that puts you above your counterpart . . . you seem to have a sense of humor.

MurderedGenius: One would not have a sense of humor when one is about to die, would one?

Fitz Kreiner: Well, it's not so much that as John doesn't seem . . . real, somehow. He seems to be constantly cheerful - like he's been using laughing gas or antidepressants constantly. That just doesn't seem . . . normal, you know?

MurderedGenius: He was always a happy child. Perhaps he's losing his mind?

Fitz Kreiner: If you ask me, I think he's always been headed for the bend. But what I've seen now, well . . . it seems he's gone 'round it. Then again, it seems that a lot of people are like that these days. Gets a wee bit depressing after a while.

MurderedGenius: Heh.

MurderedGenius: I regret to inform you that I must be leaving.

Fitz Kreiner: Oh? Well, take care.

MurderedGenius: You too.

Fitz Kreiner: I'll try. I hope all goes well for you.

MurderedGenius signed off at 1:47:44 PM.

I, obviously, am Fitz Kreiner.

GasparLewis0000: I've got my eye on you...
MurderedGenius: Amusing.
GasparLewis0000: It's the lazy one, but it's there!
GasparLewis0000: O_- <---- that one
MurderedGenius: Oh? What have you seen?
GasparLewis0000: Not much recently, but I knwo your history with the Hired Hands Group and overall involvement.
GasparLewis0000: *know
MurderedGenius: Hired Hands Group....
MurderedGenius: Quite a fun bunch.
GasparLewis0000: Until you squished them them like roaches.
MurderedGenius: They went out of business.
GasparLewis0000: Or that!
GasparLewis0000: See, lazy eye!
MurderedGenius: I'm a wanted criminal in over 10 countries.
MurderedGenius: There isn't a lot of info you can use to blackmail me.
GasparLewis0000: Do you get a free big Whopper with the 11th?
MurderedGenius: I might.
MurderedGenius: Funny story, actually.
GasparLewis0000: Five finger discount, 100% off...
MurderedGenius: I was in a McDonalds in Amsterdam.
GasparLewis0000: Hmm...
MurderedGenius: This was after a long run that night, and I was a bit tired.
MurderedGenius: I ordered a Whopper.
MurderedGenius: I got it.
GasparLewis0000: They probably mocked your stupor behind your back after handing you a Big Mac.
MurderedGenius: Most likely.
GasparLewis0000: Was it in a "gray zone"?
MurderedGenius: I think there might have been some sodium pentothal in my system still.
MurderedGenius: What, pray tell, is a gray zone?
GasparLewis0000: Areas where marijuana use is accepted in authorized establishments.
MurderedGenius: I doubt that McDonalds is a Gray Zone.
GasparLewis0000: Was it nearby one, possibly?
GasparLewis0000: If so, it might have explained their compliance.
MurderedGenius: I don't know. I was only in the city for a day.
MurderedGenius: I don't like to stay in one area for any longer than I have to, you see.
GasparLewis0000: Aw, but he Dutch people have a rich and interesting culture. Pity.
GasparLewis0000: *the
GasparLewis0000: Bohersome leer "".
MurderedGenius: Do you know where John is?
GasparLewis0000: Not myself.
MurderedGenius: Can you get that information to me?
GasparLewis0000: One of two places.
GasparLewis0000: Ah ah ah, you didn't say the magic word!
GasparLewis0000: (Always wanted to use that.)
MurderedGenius: Jurassic Park was overrated.
GasparLewis0000: Perhaps, but an effective line for your predicament.
MurderedGenius: I suppose.
GasparLewis0000: I'm one the key figures in charge of your opposition, you see.
MurderedGenius: Oh?
MurderedGenius: Let's make a deal, then.
GasparLewis0000: What's on the table?
MurderedGenius: At this time, you have been selected by the US government for a discreet assassination.
GasparLewis0000: Have I? Saucy. Go on.
MurderedGenius: Fortunately for you, my men are a bit smarter than theirs.
MurderedGenius: I can promise you complete safety.
GasparLewis0000: OK, OK, still with you.
MurderedGenius: Other than that, I leave the price up to you.
GasparLewis0000: Hm, safety guaranteed, eh?
MurderedGenius: Within reasonable boundaries.
GasparLewis0000: Well, I like my risks, especially when trying to protect a life who is innocent, as far as I can tell.
GasparLewis0000: Safety Not Guaranteed, as it were.
MurderedGenius: This risk that you're taking could possibly end in your death.
MurderedGenius: I have inside-men. People who can change the records.
GasparLewis0000: Of course, unless there is information that I am unaware of.
MurderedGenius: Why do you think John was selected for Project Ashcroft?
GasparLewis0000: Genetic superiority as weaponry.
GasparLewis0000: But he doesn't quite seem interested in any sort of destructive action.
GasparLewis0000: Unlike yourself.
MurderedGenius: That genetic superiority entails quite a few things.
MurderedGenius: I was dropped from the program due to my...aggressiveness.
GasparLewis0000: So, his choice serves as greater protection... or less, in the wrong hands.
MurderedGenius: It's a family trait. John is just a tiny bit less agressive than I am.
GasparLewis0000: But, considering his relative isolation, he appears to be acting on his own will.
GasparLewis0000: You see, I just feel that every end is being left in the dark.
MurderedGenius: There was an incident while he was in Middle School.
GasparLewis0000: Oh?
MurderedGenius: I had to dig up the file from the school computers. I can't remember it happening. I was kept in the dark, mostly.
MurderedGenius: He was approached by 10 other students and they attacked him.
GasparLewis0000: And?
MurderedGenius: He sustained a broken wrist and injury to his knee.
MurderedGenius: The broken wrist came from when he smashed his hand on top of one students head.
MurderedGenius: The knee injury came from when he drove it into the same students forehead.
GasparLewis0000: Ooooh...
MurderedGenius: That student was killed almost instantly.
GasparLewis0000: The other nine?
MurderedGenius: All recieved various broken bones and other injuries.
MurderedGenius: One student was hospitalized for more than 3 weeks.
GasparLewis0000: Did you uncover the cause?
GasparLewis0000: As in, what prompted the attack?
MurderedGenius: He was smarter. We've always been smarter. They hated him for it.
MurderedGenius: He kept to himself, and never really made any friends.
MurderedGenius: I was his only friend.
GasparLewis0000: I know the position.
GasparLewis0000: Really, it mirrors my own childhood.
MurderedGenius: It was a few months after that Project Ashcroft agents came snooping around.
GasparLewis0000: Was often involved in fights, if without any sort of superhuman death-powers.
GasparLewis0000: Kept (and still keep) limited circles of friends.
MurderedGenius: Oh dear.
MurderedGenius: I can't seem to disable this bold typing.
MurderedGenius: Test.
MurderedGenius: There we go.
GasparLewis0000: The "B" button.
GasparLewis0000: So, in short, I feel a bit enamored to his plight.
GasparLewis0000: And, now, I'm far more well-adjusted.
MurderedGenius: I wasn't quite done finished with the story.
GasparLewis0000: Aging does that... for some.
GasparLewis0000: But go on.
MurderedGenius: He was taken to wherever they take new PA recruits.
MurderedGenius: They gave him a psychoanalysis test and interviewed him.
MurderedGenius: I have a copy of the interview file somewhere.
MurderedGenius: Basically, when asked about the fight, he said that he enjoyed killing the one student and injuring the others.
GasparLewis0000: Well, after being forced into my own psychoanalysis after an overemotional gun threat, I still can relate.
GasparLewis0000: Keep trying, but do send the transcript if you could?
MurderedGenius: I will try and find it. I believe it's on one of my personal computers in Osaka.
MurderedGenius: John is...a monster. Nothing he does is anything but self-interest.
MurderedGenius: I think the only reason he keeps Naomi around is because she's usable.
GasparLewis0000: Then why kill her?
GasparLewis0000: You've made it clear she's next.
MurderedGenius: Information, I'm afraid. I don't enjoy killing too much. It's not my favorite sport.
MurderedGenius: I'm trying to keep as many people alive as possible.
GasparLewis0000: Well, your occasionally boisterous attitude hasn't quite illustrated that.
MurderedGenius: I am not arrogant.
MurderedGenius: I know my abilities, and they are enough for the job.
GasparLewis0000: Fair enough.
GasparLewis0000: But, if you want more support, you need to show this to people.
GasparLewis0000: These are the first words I've heard on John's past.
GasparLewis0000: And, you could very well still be lying.
MurderedGenius: I'm surprised he hasn't told you all of that.
MurderedGenius: He loves to talk about himself.
GasparLewis0000: He's been fairly reserved, actually.
MurderedGenius: Expected.
MurderedGenius: I will find the transcript, and perhaps the audio file of it.
GasparLewis0000: Thank you.
MurderedGenius: If you wish, I can also send you a copy of the incident report.
GasparLewis0000: And, for now, I still oppose John's death, but I hope I've proved my mind is not closed.
GasparLewis0000: The copy would be lovely.
MurderedGenius: Yes, you have.
MurderedGenius: I am not without honor. I respect those who respect me.
GasparLewis0000: That is to be applauded.

I think we may have to re-evaluate sides.
And this divide is stilting the flow of play.
So...

*offers hand for Rusty to shake*

And here I was just about to say, 'enh, what the heck, I'm tired of playing by myself, I'll post everything I have later'.

I am still willing to do this if you traitorpantses allow me to pursue my current course of action without interruption in the interest of getting both sides of the story.

If not, what a silly reversal. I am somewhat amused by Alex's 'hurrr, my brother is a monster' response when he told me all about how much he was going to enjoy killing John and Naomi slowly, not to mention all the 'look at me, I'm an internationally wanted professional killer' stuff.

Traitorpants? Me? I'm shocked! Shocked, I say!

I'm not a traitor, I'm an Illus!

Random Guy: Oho, so you're an Illus traitor!

. . . and don't pretned you couldn't see that one coming a mile away!

EDIT:

OMG UPDAET!

Looks like Alex wants to talk to John:

Quote:
Fitz Kreiner: Hullo again.
MurderedGenius: Hi there.
MurderedGenius: I'm having doubts.
Fitz Kreiner: What about?
MurderedGenius: Killing him...I've been thinking about what people have been saying.
Fitz Kreiner: Interesting. I've not heard anything like that myself . . . care to elaborate?
MurderedGenius: I've met heavy opposition from your friends about killing John.
MurderedGenius: They don't think it's right.
Fitz Kreiner: Well, it depends on the situation, I'd think. I mean, if he poses a clear and present danger to you, or someone you know well . . . Well, in a case like that, I'd do whatever I had to to neutralize the threat.
MurderedGenius: I don't know. After Project Ashcroft, I've only spoken to him a few times.
MurderedGenius: He is very hostile to me.
Fitz Kreiner: Hostile as in "I don't like you, leave me the hell alone!" or hostile as in "If you so much as look at me, I'll break your neck!"?
MurderedGenius: Somewhere in between.
Fitz Kreiner: H'm. So not quite threats of violence, but he's made it clear he wants you to leave him alone . . . Sounds to me like he's headed for a nervous breakdown, or something like.
MurderedGenius: I've had my theories about his deteriorating mental health.
Fitz Kreiner: I think that - judging by what you've told me - he's definitely not all there.
MurderedGenius: Who knows?
MurderedGenius: I would like to speak with him sometime.
Fitz Kreiner: That might be a good idea. Maybe we could figure out what's wrong with him. And if worse comes to worst - he actually attacks you . . . well, I'm sure you could handle that.
MurderedGenius: Yes.
MurderedGenius: If you could have someone ask him about it, I would appreciate it.
MurderedGenius: Perhaps a groupchat, if that could be an incentive.
Fitz Kreiner: Sounds like an idea. A friend of mine rus a TeamSpeak server, would that be useful for hosting this chat?
Fitz Kreiner: Runs a TeamSpeak server, even.
MurderedGenius: TeamSpeak? Could you explain that to me?
Fitz Kreiner: Well, it's a voice-chat program - similar to IRC in some ways - people have to host servers, and other people use clients to connect to the servers - only instead of using text, you actually talk to other people.
Fitz Kreiner: Sort of like crossing a conference call with IRC.
MurderedGenius: I don't think that would work.
MurderedGenius: I'm a bit paranoid about my voice.
Fitz Kreiner: Ah, understandable. Well, it was a thought. Actually, I'm running an IRC channel right now on the Chat-Solutions server - #projectashcroft (I'm thinking Purloined Letter here - hide it in plain sight, and hope that people will say, "Naaah, they wouldn't be THAT obvious.").
Fitz Kreiner: I mean, it's worked before,.
MurderedGenius: I think that will work.
MurderedGenius: If you could talk to John about it and get everything squared away.
Fitz Kreiner: Righto. I'll do my best to get the message to him.
Fitz Kreiner: Here's hoping it all works out.
MurderedGenius: Yes.
Fitz Kreiner: I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything from John, 'kay?
MurderedGenius: Okay.
Fitz Kreiner: I'm going to be idle for a while as I make contact, just so you know.
MurderedGenius: Yes.

Will update with the rest of the conversation as soon as it's finished.

EDIT EDIT:

The rest of the convo:

Quote:
Fitz Kreiner: Right, message sent.
Fitz Kreiner: So, aside from that, how are things going for you? Any problems of late?
MurderedGenius: Not really. I've been busy, but not anything too difficult.
Fitz Kreiner: Well, that's good to hear. Mind you, there's probably not too much you'd consider difficult.
MurderedGenius: That is true.
MurderedGenius: What is difficult right now is getting access to my personal computers.
Fitz Kreiner: Let me guess, they're being monitored?
MurderedGenius: No. They're in Japan.
Fitz Kreiner: Pardon my French, but what the hell are they doing out there?
MurderedGenius: That's where I live.
MurderedGenius: Currently, at least.
Fitz Kreiner: Ah, I see. And you're having trouble getting to them because . . . ?
MurderedGenius: I can't break into my own computers...
Fitz Kreiner: At a rough guess, I'd say some kind of disk-nuking security measure - try to break in, and the data gets erased.
MurderedGenius: That is one of the things.
MurderedGenius: I didn't design the security on my computers. I only have rough knowledge of computer security and hacking.
Fitz Kreiner: Must be pretty strong crypto, then - I'd wager one of the RC5 schemas, at the very least.
MurderedGenius: Wouldn't know.
MurderedGenius: I have to get in contact with the man who actually wrote the code.
Fitz Kreiner: Well, I'd wager he didn't use ENIGMA. That's been obsolete since the Brits cracked it back in World War II.
MurderedGenius: I could retrieve bits and pieces of the files; I've strewn some about.
Fitz Kreiner: Well, that's good, then.
Fitz Kreiner: Beg pardon, connection hiccuped.
MurderedGenius: Of course.
MurderedGenius: Right now, I'm using a laptop I bought the other week.
Fitz Kreiner: One of the perrenial pitfalls of being stuck out beyond the range of traditional high-speed access - one has to rely on dialup, and it tends to hiccup at the most inconvenient times.
MurderedGenius: Ah. Dial-up.
Fitz Kreiner: Well, I'm outside the cable company's service territory, so I'd have to pay an extra five grand just for them to run the cables. Likewise, I'm too far from the local main switching office, so DSL, ADSL, and their variants are out.
MurderedGenius: How unfortunate.
Fitz Kreiner: Well, at least it works. No real opportunities for virtual mayhem - the line can't handle the amount of data that's needed by most games I play - but I still have access to various communications cahannels. Plus, there's an Internet cafe about 35 minutes away, so if I need to download any really big files (like the Patrolling videos), I go there.
MurderedGenius: Ah. Not too bad.
Fitz Kreiner: It's a workable setup. I'd prefer having the high-speed stuff at home, but I'll take this over no high-speed acess at all.
Fitz Kreiner: And now, we wait . . .
MurderedGenius: ?
Fitz Kreiner: Oh, just commenting on the wait for a response from the network.
MurderedGenius: Ah.
Fitz Kreiner: Sometimes my friends have trouble making contact. When that happens, delays occur.
MurderedGenius: I have to shut down this program while I run some other things.
Fitz Kreiner: Righto, chief. Good luck!
MurderedGenius: You too.
MurderedGenius signed off at 3:28:36 PM.

So, distilling that down to its salient points, here's the deal:

We need to get John and Alex into #projectashcroft so they can talk to each other.

Well, this is new; Alex turning a new leaf...
I'm still suspect, but if he really means it, this may change a lot of things...
Can't wait to see what goes down when they confront.
Something tells me a lt of answers will come from it.

Anyway, regarding that promised transcript from my log?
Sometime in the week, he says.

As a snack to tide me over, I get this.
The parental notice regarding the incident, linked with the words "Transcript coming soon."

Interesting, to say the very least.
Think I may have to confront John on this; see who's holding more back...

But, I feel we can safely consider the Great PM Divide over.
I for one, will be forthwith regarding all information from here-on-in.
