[Puzzle Trail] Ma's Reversing

This is a pretty interesting trail focusing mostly on cryptography.

http://3564020356.org/

Riddle 1 is just to enter the site:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Click on "deserve", and look in the source.
In it is a substitution cipher. Looking at letter frequency, word length, etc, you can decode it to

the password is the surname of the man who said "the highest
knowledge is to know that we are surrounded by mystery"

If you had read the cryptography tutorial, that text is in there. The answer is Schweitzer

Riddle 02:

This one is really tough but very rewarding.. there are several steps to it so you might want to give it a shot even if it feels impossible, when you pick up the thread you will easily be able to follow it throw..

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

The first thing you need is the bmp file. Obviously since it was in a zip file and doesn't seem to add anything to the image, there must be something hidden in there.

Looking at the color value, not all the dots are yellow. If you isolate standard yellow (FFFF00) you are left with 17 dots. The color of these is not pure yellow, as they have an added value to them (e.g. FFFF69, FFFF20, etc)

Taking the additional values for each we get HEX codes for ascii text, but it just seems random and doesn't anagram to anything useful.

Coincidently, there are 17 pairs in alice.gif as follows.

01 10
02 11
03 09
04 12
05 08
06 13
07 14
08 05
09 15
10 07
11 16
12 02
13 04
14 03
15 17
16 06
17 01

If you transpose the dot values to the above "key" (so the first letter is #17 = 70h = 112d = ascii "p" and so on)

You will get the answer.

Final answer:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

pass is LidlScott

Riddle 03:

This one's better because all the instructions are there, you just need to follow them thoroughly to get the answer, so no excuses for cheating!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

The file in question is:
c:\windows\system\shdoclc.dll

Which anyone who cleaned up spoofed error pages should know Smile otherwise a simple google would've helped..

If you open it in a resource hacker you will find many items, but as the instructions say we are interested in an easter egg which many sites indicated is an html file.. Look under the html resource (where you'll find dnserror.htm) and the file we need is called wcee.htm (It's the one that doesn't do anything, and it's got cipher text!)

Now there are many ways to figure out the next part, but if you go through the code you'll see that the page name is referenced with DecodeStr("gurjPRR")

Run that in it's own window and you'll get the actual title..

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Final answer: TheWC (which is TheWCEE minus the last two letters)

For puzzle 2.

How do you get to the color value in the bmp file? Is there a certain program you have to open it with?

If you have Photoshop it'll do the trick, or you can download The Gimp which is free.. use the color picker tool and then check the color from the pallete.
