Okay, sorry about the short notice here, but John just contacted me, using the AIM address "MapsInAMirror".

He's willing to talk with Alex (MurderedGenius) in #projectashcroft today at 3:00.

If anyone else wants to come along to help keep order in the channel, please do!

Eastern time, or so I assume. Alex knows that John's in Rochester, so that would be the logical deduction.

Edit:

Alex just IMed me, telling me that he won't be able to make it on time:

Quote:

MurderedGenius: I apologize.
MurderedGenius: I won't be able to make the chat on time.
Fitz Kreiner: Ah. Something's come up?
MurderedGenius: Too much heat from local law enforcement.
Fitz Kreiner: Ah. I see.
MurderedGenius: I'd appreciate it if you'd let John know.
Fitz Kreiner: Will do, chief.
MurderedGenius: Thank you.

Now to see what John has to say about it.

Alright, I promised full disclosure. Here it is.

Quote:
MapsInAMirror: Hello?
CanemExMachina: I'm here.
MapsInAMirror: Good.
MapsInAMirror: Do you know where Alex is?
CanemExMachina: The last time I talked to him, he told me he was getting settled in or something, so as to prepare for hauling you and Naomi in.
CanemExMachina: So I'm pretty sure he's in NY somewhere. Unless he got another tip on your location.
CanemExMachina: I'm guessing he's trying to set up traps and the like.
MapsInAMirror: That's not good.
CanemExMachina: What, are you still there?
MapsInAMirror: We can't leave.
MapsInAMirror: Not yet.
CanemExMachina: Is there some reason you have to stay?
MapsInAMirror: Yes.
CanemExMachina: Is it something I can help with?
MapsInAMirror: I don't know.
MapsInAMirror: Are you an expert in genetic physiology?
CanemExMachina: No, but I do have connections.
CanemExMachina: I'm being entirely serious. I can get in touch with medical researchers very easily.
MapsInAMirror: I'm sorry.
MapsInAMirror: I can't trust anyone.
CanemExMachina: I know. I could give you my word, but what it would it be worth?
CanemExMachina: But if there's anything, anything at all, that you think you can take the chance on...
MapsInAMirror: Project Ashcroft...they had a plan for escaped subjects.
CanemExMachina: Go on?
MapsInAMirror: They changed our genetics, so that we became dependent on certain chemicals.
MapsInAMirror: They put it them in our food, so we didn't even know that we were dependent.
MapsInAMirror: Without them, our DNA begins to decay at an enhance rate.
CanemExMachina: And now you're running out?
MapsInAMirror: We were running out as soon as we escaped. We don't know what the chemicals are.
CanemExMachina: If you could get an expert, I'm sure they could figure it out... but do you think you could trust just any one doctor?
MapsInAMirror: That's the problem, we can't go to any doctors.
MapsInAMirror: Too many questions, not enough time.
MapsInAMirror: We suspect that the Ashcroft people are screening for prescriptions to the chemicals. We aren't even sure that you can get them.
CanemExMachina: So you're pretty much going to have to do this illegally.
MapsInAMirror: I don't know.
MapsInAMirror: We don't know how many pies Project Ashcroft had it's fingers in.
MapsInAMirror: The project itself is and was illegal.
CanemExMachina: Hmm. Troubling, troubling.
CanemExMachina: Do you know enough to analyze your DNA yourself?
MapsInAMirror: Naomi knows some things, but not enough to figure it out.
MapsInAMirror: The lab has all the equipment we could need.
CanemExMachina: So you have a lab.
MapsInAMirror: Yes, that's why we're here. It was a shut-down Ashcroft lab.
CanemExMachina: Have you searched it for spare drugs?
CanemExMachina: or perhaps the materials to synthesize it?
MapsInAMirror: We've ingested everything that wouldn't kill us, but nothing has worked.
CanemExMachina: At least there's something you might be able to use, provided you can figure out what chemical it is.
MapsInAMirror: It's maddening. We don't even know if the chemicals they were giving us were edible.
MapsInAMirror: We're aging faster than normal, now.
CanemExMachina: Well, if you ingested them somehow...
MapsInAMirror: We assume it was in the food. It could have been the shots, or the blood samples...
CanemExMachina: You know, if you trust us enough, we might be able to figure it out for you. I know there are some biology and pharmacology people on our side. Crazy as it sounds.
MapsInAMirror: I would, if I could.
MapsInAMirror: As it is, I've told you too much. Naomi is going to worry.
CanemExMachina: Maybe you should stop, then, for your own safety. I'm being called away as it is, to my great regret.
CanemExMachina: But listen, you have my email address. And my word.
MapsInAMirror: Yes.
MapsInAMirror: Thank you.
CanemExMachina: You're welcome.
MapsInAMirror signed off at 3:10:47 PM.

Basic summary of emails to John:
Me: let me help you, John!
John: eh, okay. Go find Peter (mentis_letalisSPLATyahoo.co.uk)
Me: whee!

Sir,

I have recently been in contact with some friends of yours, names of J and N.

They need your help.

Please contact me ASAP, either by this address, or by AIM:
canemexmachina. It is a matter of pressing importance.

Yours,
CEM

Peter Wiggins
to me
I do not know of any kind of J or N. You need to be more specific, thank you kindly.

How did you get this contact? Only Project Ashcroft agents like myself have it. Why haven't I heard of you?

CEM McGoogle
to Peter
John Peterson gave this address to me. I apologize for my initial vagueness. I needed to make sure I had the right person.

You haven't heard of me because I am a perfect shadow.

Trust me a little yet? John does.

Peter Wiggins
to me
John Peterson? But he's dead, isn't he? They said that he tried to run for it with Naomi and they both were killed. You're saying he's alive? That's amazing.

Should I tell my teammates or not? They'll be glad to hear that he's alive. He was a year older than us, we really respected him.

Is there anything I can do for you?

Viajera
to Peter
He's alive alright, and I plan to make sure he stays that way.

Only tell those you absolutely trust. Remember, you never know who's listening. You wouldn't want to compromise him, especially given he needs your help.
He's missing something important, something he can't get outside of Project Ashcroft. Can you help him?

Peter Wiggins
to me
I don't know. I need locations, dates, etc. They screen our emails. I have a private phone-line.
Confirm when and where, and I'll give you the number.

And that's it, really. I have not yet responded to Peter on account of being terribly busy lately (plus I'm not entirely sure I feel like calling).

Sorry for the double post, but for those of you who did not already hear, the chat was postponed. Sometime around 7 or 8 CST, someone named 'Dagger' entered the room and spoke gibberish at me and James Blond, informing us that the Peterson has been arrested in NY. I have no idea which. Probably that nogoodnik Alex.

Also, does anyone know anyone with the AIM handle 'nonchalanttoker'? If it's you, own up.

From what I can discover so far, nonchalanttoker isnew to this sort of thing. Completely out-of-game.

Also, I doubt that Alex has been arrested in New York, he told me recently that he was out in Japan. Most likely it was John.

No, no it was Alex.

He got arrested because he looked like a local punk, but was let out.
Mistaken identity, although Alex was a better prize.
I guess I forgot to copy that one over here; sorry! Embarassed

Had a brief chat today.
Not even worth putting in a quote box, it's so short.

MurderedGenius: I'm starting to HATE this town.
GasparLewis0000: What in Rochester is getting you down?
MurderedGenius: The winter.
MurderedGenius: It's absolutely maddening.
GasparLewis0000: What, specifically?
MurderedGenius: It goes from snowy to mild to snowy to muddy and so on and so forth.
GasparLewis0000: So is New York weather.
MurderedGenius: Bleh.

Just got an email from John. Here's the email I sent:

Fitz Kreiner wrote:

Just wondering if you'd heard anything from M.G. or anyone else in your old crew. I heard there were a couple more of the old crew in your area, and was wondering what you'd heard if anything.

Drop me a line and let me know what you've heard, aye?

- Fitz

Here's his repsonse:

I think we need to get in touch with some of John's old crew STAT.

EDIT: Spoke with Alex. Here's the text of the convo.

Quote:
Fitz Kreiner: Alex! We have a problem!
MurderedGenius: ...we do?
Fitz Kreiner: Yeah. I just got an emial from John. Let me grab the text for ya.
MurderedGenius: Okay.
Fitz Kreiner: i asked him to email me, let me know how things were going and whether or not he'd heard from anyone else from his old team. This is the response I got:
Fitz Kreiner: jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjdafffff;;;;;;;;;;;;kdjeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiaffdsasdfff ffjjjjjjjjjjj; ncccccvvvueioaeq83y9fa89hyar/;oiuahelp
MurderedGenius: Dear.
Fitz Kreiner: What d'you think's happened?
MurderedGenius: I don't know. It's mysterious.
MurderedGenius: I apologize for my absence as of late.
MurderedGenius: I have been away on a business trip.
Fitz Kreiner: Ah. No more problems with the AC, I hope.
Fitz Kreiner: I know the heat was getting to you.
MurderedGenius: Nope. Everything is nice and cool.
Fitz Kreiner: Good, good.
Fitz Kreiner: Got any contacts who might be able to check up on John? I mean, I'm kinda worried - he's been quiet fro so long, and then I get that email . . .
Fitz Kreiner: I hope whatever's hjappened to him isn't too serious.
MurderedGenius: Perhaps his health is faiing?
Fitz Kreiner: Might be. I mean, I seem to remember he mentioned some kind of nutrient deficiency he was suffering from a while back. Maybe his supplies got contaminated . . .
MurderedGenius: How unfortunate.
MurderedGenius: I will be going to check a certain area in a week to see if I have found him.
Fitz Kreiner: Good idea. I hope he doesn't crash and burn before then. I get the feeling we'll need his help.
MurderedGenius: Yes.
MurderedGenius: Do you have videoconference capabilities?
Fitz Kreiner: I think so, but I'm not sure if the camera's online. Let me check.
Fitz Kreiner: I think it's got a malf. Let me try a secondary unit.
MurderedGenius: Would you happen to have YIM?
Fitz Kreiner: I think so.
MurderedGenius: If I were to give you a YIM address, would you be able to view it's webcam?
Fitz Kreiner: I can give it a shot.
MurderedGenius: Fortunate.
MurderedGenius: If you could notify your friends, and have them download and register for YIM, I would appreciate it.
MurderedGenius: Next week is sure to be interesting.
Fitz Kreiner: You got it.
Fitz Kreiner: I'll do what I can.
MurderedGenius: Thank you.
MurderedGenius: I can promise you that you will not be dissapointed for spending time in this endeavor.
Fitz Kreiner: I just hope John's all right. I don't like this, I really don't. I mean . . . This email's got me scared, you know?
MurderedGenius: Yes, I suppose it would.
Fitz Kreiner: So, what should we do?
MurderedGenius: I would not know. Perhaps send him more email?
Fitz Kreiner: Well, I did - a short one. Basically, "John, what the hell's going on out there?"
MurderedGenius: Heh.
Fitz Kreiner: First thing I thought to do, before passing it on to my associates.
Fitz Kreiner: If he's down for the count, this throws a spanner in the wroks but good.
Fitz Kreiner: Spanner in the WORKs, even.
MurderedGenius: Well, I must be going.
MurderedGenius: It was a pleasure speaking with you again.
MurderedGenius signed off at 12:53:20 PM.

He seems a bit cool, but I'd wager he's worried too (especially since he asked us to keep an eye something via Yahoo for him).

Spoke with Alex again today, this time over YIM - it seems he's been stringing us along (needless to say, I warned John):

Quote:
sgtmikeyates (4:27:50 PM): Boo?
corrupted_thought (4:28:03 PM): There we go.
sgtmikeyates (4:28:38 PM): Right. What's up?
corrupted_thought (4:29:46 PM): I mentioned a webcam, did I not?
sgtmikeyates (4:29:55 PM): Yah, you did.
corrupted_thought (4:30:03 PM): I will be running it 24/7
sgtmikeyates (4:30:13 PM): 'Kay.
corrupted_thought (4:30:54 PM): If you would so kindly view it....
sgtmikeyates (4:31:21 PM): Right. Testing link now.
corrupted_thought (4:31:26 PM): Is it working?
sgtmikeyates (4:31:36 PM): Yeah. I see a six-sided die.
corrupted_thought (4:31:38 PM): Yes.
corrupted_thought (4:31:52 PM): This die is the count-down until the end of John Peterson.
sgtmikeyates (4:31:52 PM): Tree on the top face, six directly towards the camera.
corrupted_thought (4:32:19 PM): Tomorrow, the die will go down to five, like so.
sgtmikeyates (4:33:24 PM): Let me guess . . . that's how long he's got until he runs out of something (besides time, I mean)?
corrupted_thought (4:33:34 PM): No, oh no.
corrupted_thought (4:33:44 PM): I do not know his condition as of late.
corrupted_thought (4:33:58 PM): He is away, on a trip of some sort.
sgtmikeyates (4:34:37 PM): Six days until he returns, then . . . and something's supposed to happen when he gets back?
corrupted_thought (4:34:47 PM): Yes. I am going to kill him.
sgtmikeyates (4:36:38 PM): H'm. High-powered sniper rifle from a nearby rooftop? No . . . . too obvious. Poisoned airgun pellet perhaps . . .
corrupted_thought (4:37:06 PM): I am in his temporary hide-out as we speak.
sgtmikeyates (4:38:16 PM): I see. A convenient accident, then? A structural girder, or some such, that wasn't quite as strong as it looked? It's what I would do . . . and conveniently "arrive" just too late.
corrupted_thought (4:38:44 PM): No, no. I am going to wait for him to return to this place.
sgtmikeyates (4:39:38 PM): Well, I was thinking something along those lines in that place. Some kind of devious boobytrap that would be hard to tell from an actual accident.
corrupted_thought (4:39:59 PM): You underestimate my ability to get out of a given situation.
corrupted_thought (4:40:12 PM): Apologies for the webcam, it just went dead. It should be back up.
sgtmikeyates (4:41:57 PM): Perhaps. Still . . . it couldn't hurt to have an extra layer of security, conveniently misdirecting the investigation. Perhaps even sending it in the general direction of the Project, hm? Kill two birds with one stone - after all, they did choose John over you, and I'd wager you're not too chuffed about that either.
sgtmikeyates (4:42:16 PM): Heck, if I were in your position, it's what I'd do.
corrupted_thought (4:42:30 PM): I suppose. I have the next six days to work everything out.
sgtmikeyates (4:43:51 PM): And perhaps we might even learn more about the Project from the response to the misdirection - something like that is bound to make them nervous, and nervous people make mistakes . . .
corrupted_thought (4:44:01 PM): Heh.
corrupted_thought (4:44:13 PM): If you wish, you may view the webcam again. I have adjusted it for a better view.
sgtmikeyates (4:45:16 PM): Hmm. Looks like you've made yourself quite to home . . . or are those John's posters on the wall?
corrupted_thought (4:45:36 PM): Yes. I found it the way he left it.
sgtmikeyates (4:45:55 PM): Ah, and a Maruchan noodle cup! I have a particular fondness for the chicken ones . . .
corrupted_thought (4:45:58 PM): Apparently he went for the "20-year-old geek" style.
corrupted_thought (4:46:18 PM): Heh.
corrupted_thought (4:46:25 PM): My favorite meal.
corrupted_thought (4:47:17 PM): My own apartment is much easier on the eyes.
sgtmikeyates (4:47:25 PM): M'well, I'd rather the 20-year-old geek look than the clinical white. Speaking of geek stuff, do you have access to a GPS mapping system there?
corrupted_thought (4:47:50 PM): I do not. I could, however, give you the latitude and longitude, if you so desired.
sgtmikeyates (4:48:54 PM): M'well, I was thinking of setting up a dead drop on a nearby ridge - just in case you or your associates come across some hard-copy data you think might be of interest.
corrupted_thought (4:49:28 PM): If you have associates in Rochester, I would gladly set up a dead drop.
sgtmikeyates (4:50:24 PM): I think I might be able to get in touch with someone out that way.
corrupted_thought (4:50:37 PM): Ah.
corrupted_thought (4:50:49 PM): I do in fact have some interesting things that I have found.
sgtmikeyates (4:51:09 PM): H'm. Looks like I have to charge my Geko's batteries.
sgtmikeyates (4:51:12 PM): Indeed?
corrupted_thought (4:51:55 PM): Yes. A few things I have found that would be of more use to you than to me.
sgtmikeyates (4:53:16 PM): Aha. Sounds intriguing . . . much like what I usually do with multi-billion-dollar military satellites.
corrupted_thought (4:53:57 PM): There.
corrupted_thought (4:54:02 PM): Let me find the lat/long
sgtmikeyates (4:56:35 PM): Looks like you knocked the camera there, chief.
corrupted_thought (4:57:03 PM): You might be experiencing lag.
corrupted_thought (4:57:14 PM): The camera is currently focused on the computer screen.
sgtmikeyates (4:57:27 PM): Could be. I'm on a slower connection than my usual.
corrupted_thought (4:58:30 PM): There.
corrupted_thought (4:58:37 PM): Do you see the computer screen?
sgtmikeyates (4:59:03 PM): Yeah. And I see what looks like a comic strip taped to it - looks like a daily of some kind.
corrupted_thought (4:59:29 PM): It's a strip of graphpaper with writing on it.
sgtmikeyates (5:00:04 PM): Ah. John's, I assume - it seems his style.
sgtmikeyates (5:00:31 PM): You know - sticky notes everywhere, posters on the wall, probably left the bed a wreck . . .
corrupted_thought (5:00:51 PM): Apparently he enjoys pen and paper cryptology
corrupted_thought (5:01:13 PM): I would show myself, but I am dressed in common clothing.
sgtmikeyates (5:04:00 PM): Feh, that's nothing. I just got back from taking a reading on a potential cache site. You wouldn't believe the brambles and beggars-ticks out there . . . I may have to invest in a high-temperature defoliation unit!
sgtmikeyates (5:04:10 PM): . . . Well, a machete at any rate.
sgtmikeyates (5:04:59 PM): Multi-billion-dollar military satellites, and I use them to go looking for places to hide Tupperware in the woods!
corrupted_thought (5:05:16 PM): Heh.
sgtmikeyates (5:06:06 PM): Well, it gets me out of the house while I wait for my auto-repair courses to start.
corrupted_thought (5:06:33 PM): Alright.
corrupted_thought (5:06:40 PM): I have the coordinates.
corrupted_thought (5:06:47 PM): I can also give you an address.
sgtmikeyates (5:06:53 PM): Righto.
corrupted_thought (5:08:55 PM): apologies
corrupted_thought (5:09:11 PM): Hm.
corrupted_thought (5:09:29 PM): It appears that right-clicking will exit the program.
sgtmikeyates (5:09:47 PM): Unusual. Perhaps a security measure of some kind?
corrupted_thought (5:09:56 PM): I do not know.
corrupted_thought (5:10:00 PM): At any rate.
sgtmikeyates (5:11:04 PM): Nice hat.
corrupted_thought (5:11:35 PM): Thanks.
corrupted_thought (5:11:56 PM): Lat: 43.081689
corrupted_thought (5:12:10 PM): Lon: -077.620078
corrupted_thought (5:13:10 PM): There are a few places where I could set a small container of items at.
sgtmikeyates (5:13:48 PM): Mmm. Might wnat to place a few decoys, just in case.
corrupted_thought (5:14:07 PM): Yes.
corrupted_thought (5:14:21 PM): Firstly, however, I want you to make sure that someone will be able to recieve it.
sgtmikeyates (5:14:35 PM): Will do.
corrupted_thought (5:14:54 PM): Once you have that, then I will give you a location for the container.
sgtmikeyates (5:15:07 PM): Sounds like a plan.

So, I ran the co-ordinates in Google Maps, and I get an area just off Clay Road in Rochester, about 100 feet north of the intersection of Strasenburgh Drive and Clay Road.

Anyone out that way feel like taking a shufty to see what's out there?

Alex is still bent on killing John? I TOTALLY DIDN'T SEE THAT ONE COMING :D

More seriously, do you have any idea what exactly Alex is dropping for us? And did you get a shot of John's 'pen and paper cryptology'?

Nope, sorry. There was a lot of "quilting" in the image (partly because I'm on dialup).

Also, I'd assume it's some kind of document or other data - possibly a set of communications, or a CD with OMG SEKRIT PA PLANS FOR WORLD DOMINATION! on them.

Whatever it is, I'd wager it's important.

Well, it's probably something he'd need to convey to us...but I doubt if he would trust some of us with his plans for John's death. So I dunno. But someone, actually, I'll do it, pm Saevitia and ask her to do this for us.
