[London Event] The Day

Seen as though I seem to be the first back, I thought I'd just give a quick rundown (I don't have any pics, leaflets or anything so not got a great memory).

Basically we had a sheet with a variety of tasks given to us on a sheet (questions about an area of london we were given to find out, random things to do, pictures to take).

These include:
Fitting your whole team into a phone box, taking pictures at various tube stations, stacking biscuits (custard creams), reverse spelling bee, choir singing, running arround the national gallery, etc.

Then we were sent various (easy) trivia questions, like the other one posted.

We had spot challenges sent to us (make conga at 2:45, was 120 ish people, LOL) race from gallery.

The national gallery maze was VERY!!! hard (only 3 teams solved it).

Our team (Exit pursued by a bear) was 24th.

ANYWAY, onto the intersting part. The top 8 teams were taken to the london eye (prize from an "Anonymous Donor") which left after I left but in a text from a team mate it turns out there will be a strobe light from accross the river (although the message is not known yet).

Ermmm, thats all I can think about.

Oh, every team got 1 bag between us (I stole ours, LOL) and a PCAG Leitmark each.

CYA all later and hurry up with the morse code translation Very Happy (could being sent to the London Eye (L EYE - LIE - pure [SPEC] without knowing the conntent of the message) be yet another case of us being used??? but as its the only vantage point probably me being too paranoid!

That was such a fun event!

I was part of Serpentine Road, the team with the skates!
For those who don't know, Serpentine Road is the road in Hyde Park where most of the weekend stuff takes place.

The skates were very useful it turned out, especially in the fruit race! Props to all those who laughed at us when they ran to Leicester Square the long way while we put them on, it was worth seeing your faces when we got there before you.

I must admit, we didn't have much to do with the morse code bit at the end, well, one of our team did, but the rest of us were looking out the window at London. Also we had a feeling of "too many cooks" and thought it was best.

All in all, we missed so many challenges, inc the whole National Gallery trail, we got part way through, but were running out of time, so asked a guard and information person, who said one portrait in one of the eastern rooms had gone to Paris! Well, he was wrong...

And maybe we shouldn't all have had a Kwak in De Hems bar...

And maybe I should have looked where I was going when we were on the way to Centrepoint tower, hit a potholl for a spectacular stack (fall). My team left me behind (standard procedure) and all these pedestrians came over to see if I was alright, to which I responded with a "course I am, its just a flesh wound"

ohhhhh what a fantastic day.
The Red Folks (yes we were the ones with the headscarves!) came 14th which we were very pleased with, especially after spending a lot of time being confused in the National Gallery and not managing to find ANYTHING to do with Robinson Crusoe Confused

Great to meet you all and put a few faces to names Cool

Also liked doing the 'free trade' thing at base camp, I didn't need any cards, so if I had a card someone needed, I traded it for any same colour card.

Might do that from now on, or give to deserving causes.

We were told one portrait had gone to sydney, lol, we did get a bit lost at the very end of the trail though having only about 5 mins didn't help though, LOL.

I just wish I could have stayed til later and not had to rush off due to exhaustion (well, not rush off, LOL).

A great day was had by all!

Short explanation:

We were given a question sheet that had different categories of question on it:

16 questions requiring observation from walking round an area of central London (roughly stretching from Piccadilly Circus to Charing Cross) that we had to text back to HQ for varying amounts of points (10-40). With hindsight the questions were in a good walking order, although those that did it backwards didn't get waylaid by the anti terrorism march and demonstration. (340 points)

A special National Gallery section that gave cryptic clues for a trail through the gallery with a bumper 250-point question at the end to tempt us. Also to be texted. (370 points)

Six photo questions that required you to MMS photos of your team in various locations (360 plus open-ended 5 points per letter photo)

Two questions requiring you to be witnessed either singing as a choir or playing video games (180)

Two questions that required you to compete against other teams building a biscuit tower or spelling backwords (60 plus open-ended 10 points per letter spelling).

Six? trivia questions texted through the day (60)

Three or four other tasks texted through the day (?)

I especially liked the 'race' that involved eating fruit as fast as possible at the end - kudos to teammate sotonrich for running ahead (not yet knowing he would have to do this) and consuming an apple, banana and orange in record time!

Is foul play suspected with the missing 'goat' banners in Gerrard Street?

That the winning team scored 1200 points from the above is spectacular!

Well, it wasn't there when we got there at about 2pm, it seemed very strange though.

Acoording to Google (yes, i checked afterwards....) the year of the goat is the same as the ram (or sheep) and there were definitely ram banners - so it was a bit of a tricksy question Rolling Eyes

Another member of The Red Folks (had an AAGRAMN shirt and a blue cap on with a red band round it), and i had an awesome time - can't wait for the next event! Very Happy

(1) Alternate lines and 3's will get you within two steps
(2) Watch out for the special case! (3) /0
Is no-one gonna try this? Sad

And where did we come? 9th! *9th*!!! We *just* missed it. <cries and rends her garments>

I'm dying for the report on the morse code.

I'm also dying to know the answers to all the questions we missed, like the goat and the highest grossing film - maybe we should try and compile a list of questions and answers.

What a day! and not just the event for me (one of Reservoir Frogs). I got there about an hour after it started after travelling by taxi, plane, coach, on foot through muddy fields, hitchhiking, train then tube!! If only I'd been on time we could have done even better!!

And I had to leave early so missed the whole London Eye/ morse thing. Is someone going to pull together the full detail for that? And did anyone go?

What was said about points? There doesn't look like any change to the leaderboard, but there's another thread that says some teams will get points?? Anyone shed light?

Ooooh, I remember seeing you somewhere, LOL (I remember the t-shirt).

And there were definitely some banners missing from china town, it may not have been the ram ones but I remember seeing some empty posts.

Were there Ram banners?
I wasn't sure, we spent a good couple of minutes there looking for it. And there were about 8 or so banners missing. We were there about 1:10pm and couldn't find anything...
