.-/ ..-/ -../ -.-./ .-./ ../ -./ -/ .-.-/ ../ ..-/ -/ ---/ ..-/ .--/ --/ ..-/ ../ -./ translated is:
"A U D C R I N T I U T O U W M U I N"
apart from the unclear letter in the middle
Forgot to say thought that 'W' could be an 'R' but I have checked again,
and I would air on the side of 'W'
The non-existant letter in the middle could be 'AA'
Which would then read
"....AUD CRIN TAAIU TO WMUIN"
Best match monoalphabetic substitution:
"lther i call it and stic"
I think I'll try to watch it again....
There were some suggestions the two bridges weren't the same message,
or they were two halves.
Does anyone else have another transcript of the 'right' bridge?

If anyone is interested, I've uploaded a couple of photos of the cut glass cube trophies to Flickr.
The pictures don't do them justice really but its actually surprisingly difficult to take a decent picture of a transparent object!

Is it possible they were messages to each other? every conversation needs 2 sides?
as for my translation earlier, it was just fed through a morse code decription program. google rocks...

The more I look at this the more I am convinced the message was repeated, and I caught the repetitions. There are at least two lines I have that are conceivably similar enough to be the same, accounting for error:
-. --- - … . - ..-. - .- - .- - . - --
n o t s a(?) f e(?) a t a t i(?) m (e?)
..- … - -- - …. . --- …
u s t m t h e o s
.-.. .. . .-. (…?)
l i e s(?)
.. -…. - --- ..- - .-.. .. . .-.
i n s t o u t l i e r (I want to make this 's' but ...twice?)
- . …- -.-. -.-- …. --- . .-. -.
… - … .
.. -. -.- .-.. .. ? .-- … - …. - …
i n k l i (could this be 'ing?) w s t h t s
- .-.. .- -. -. -- … ..- … . .
c(?) a n y o u s e e
…. .--. -.-- -.. ..- … . .
a n y u s e e
. -. .-- …. --. -.
--- .- -.
---. ..- . ---. ..- ..- .- … . .
..- ..- . .
The other thing I haven't done yet is to consider numerals as well as letters... there were no numbers on the info sheet we had, which gave us morse translation, only letters, so at the time I guess we discounted numbers, but...

Don't think it was a conversation as they were
both happening at the same time,
lights pointing at us,
looping message.

For the people who weren't there - would you be interested in seeing the questions/tasks? a) would that be allowed here, b) should it be in a seperate thread?

Ok, just got this sorted.
Here's the National Gallery trail for those curious, we never did find out how much money the painter lost though - if anyone knows....
Also, screenshot of the Leaderboard - Random Genius #10 Woohoo!!
Also: these are some of my photos from the event - waiting for the phonebox ones etc form my other team members, so will be updated: http://www.jocarter.co.uk/gallery/PerplexCity (includes the info sheets, and merchandise as well)

Yes, in that room there was a painting for which the artist requested 50 ducats but only got paid 20 (therefore losing out on 30 ducats).

Thanks to everyone for a wonderful day on saturday. I'm still knackered and broken, despite sleeping for most of today.
I was part of the team 'The Sharkheads'. We ended up 18th. Not -too- shabby.
It's a shame I didn't get to meet as many of you as I wanted. Though there have been rumblings in the chat room regarding a social meet up at some point in the near future...
I've scanned in the instruction sheets and the challenge sheets. I hope it's ok to put them here for people to see. If it's against the rules then feel free to edit the post and remove the links and/or scold me.

My photos of the day (don't expect David Bailey) are up on Flickr here .
I think it might be useful to start a new thread for the morse code and then merge what we have from here into it, saving this for more enthusiastic discussion of what went on. Is there a friendly neighbourhood mod about?
