How do we know the "cows" are not bulls, after all since we don't get to see anything other than their heads, who can tell whats dangling between their legs?

I like this "five bulls" story: On May 22, 1377, Pope Gregory XI issued five bulls condemning the work of John Wycliffe. (see http://ctlibrary.com/3297 )

Also - Wycliffe - is 8 letters ...

Thinking of "five bulls" also brought me to this page advertising targets (bulls eyes - "bullseye" - another 8-letter word, and a phrase one might shout if one solves this card) :

I would be one of these, but without the whole reading of the dan brown, just the ramdom rambling with tangent ideas... Embarassed

and approach Jeff Lawson (bovineone)

If there's a 'bovineone', is there a possibility that this card was manufactured with the help of a 'bovinefive'? worth looking into...

oh, and "GO DON!!!"

No, the bovines start and end at one.

In other news, having some odd problems at my hosting, which is resulting in problems with the decrypt script. You'll be getting odd errors, sorry...

well both piec es of news there suck considerably.

I'll have a look at any other possible leads that pop into my mind...

maybe i'll start by looking at Kurt's other puzzles, see if there's some kind of clue contained there, or in his perplex academy profile. See if there's anything that suddenly stands out, or something I missed before...

I think a couple of people on here mentioned either owning or having access to a copy of Cracking DES.

Can one of you maybe take a quick look through it, and see if there are any 64 bit hex values in it?

Would look like: 0x1234567890ABCDEF (must have 16 places)

Also if there are any 32 bit hex values in a pair, so something like
a = 0x12345678
b = 0x90ABCDEF
on consecutive lines.

I'm starting to think the cows have to be way more significant than we've been giving them credit for, cause otherwise this card is pretty much unsolvable, and the silver cards seem to not be that insane in the end.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned but this is a long thread and I have only just started on this.

This card will probably not be solved until we find out what lies between Magine Park and Reflex Angle on the map (not until wave 3 or 4, I guess). You might be able to brute force an attack on the RC5 encryption, good luck to the ones trying that, but why not just wait for the key to come to you. Brute forcers, you can wait until the (5) cows come home!

Austin.

Has anybody tried Eric J Chaisson, his last name is 8 letters and he wrote a book called Thisteenth Labor. Not sure if it helps, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Why do you think the key will be on the map?

What about "Promising: the decoded file for key is MP2, 256 kBits, 32 kHz, Stereo".

That any good? Laughing Doubt it.

It's vaguely possible, I'll try to get around to listening to the ones that decode like that soon. But to be honest, it's unlikely. We're almost certainly looking for ASCII.

So related news though, despite stony silence from tech support at my hosts, it appears as if the decode webpage is working agan..
