Some great work over the weekend has been done then.

I tried to order a couple of decks of the cards but couldnt as they only ship to the states and Canada - has anybody found any UK Retailers where you can purchase them from - or US retailers who ship to the UK?

well, i know where I got this pack, so I can see if they are able to order, but it's been years since i was last in there, and I know they've changed hands twice.

still worth a try tho...

On the top of the pack is a series of letters and numbers and the left side is the brand name.

BAH! So much of my thinking had to do with the card being made up. Who makes a deck with an non-mirror imaged back anyway. I now have an instant dislike for all motor brand cards.

Good spot and good find, that eliminates a whole branch of potential search. I'm now inclined to think after reading hte solution to 'Ciphers of History' that this isn't so much a difficult card so much as one that just needs someone to hit the right track by fluke or search.

I dont believe my eyes! What a crazy card back design! modern-hero, you've blown my whole belief system (for this particular card) out of the water Smile

I was convinced that the clues were in the card design, soooo many hours of searching for motorbikes seem to have been a complete waste now, oh well, at least we won't lose any more time searching for it. I wonder is the type of card deck completely irrelevant now, or is there anything in it. Wont have a chance to think about this card today but ill get re-involved tomorrow, ive been avoiding it, just reading this thread to keep up, but now i want to get back into it Smile

I wonder is there anyone we can email (if the company still exists) that could tell us more about the company, its history, and what bloody motorbike that is, even if its not a clue at all, just so my mind can rest easy knowing what the motorbike model is

I agree entirely. I think the silver cards have been nothing but disappointments so far. They are actually far simpler than we give them credit for. Remember Polar!

I still think the 108 chars represent the card order for solitaire, but its probably a very simple encoding.

Found this on the web regarding 'motor playing cards' made in china
Quote:

Shanghai Yuchen Playing Cards Industry Co., LTD. is one of the biggest playing cards manufactory in China. We produce different kinds of playing cards (for Promotion, Casino and Gaming use). The products could be packing in paper box, plastic box, iron box or wooden box. Besides, we also provide Poker Chips, Dices, Cards Shuffler and other gaming sets. We are recommended as one of the reliable and excellent manufacturers in China. We have advanced technological applications and extensive statistical inspection procedures throughout production ensure the highest and most consistent quality. Our world-registered brand motor has a good reputation in American market and other global markets. Meanwhile, Yaoji brand is one of the top ten stationery brands in China because of its high quality and fine pattern. Our products are popular for entertainment, advertisement, promotion, education and so on. Please give us your requirements; we will do all the things left!

So it looks like Shanghai Yuchen Playing Cards Industry Co., LTD are the manufacturers. This probably means that the 'Made In China' on the deck is infact just part of the box and not a clue.

Good work.

Between me and a friend, we have been investigating a new line of thought today since this information has come to light - it looks as though now the pack is in existence and the clues now point to the letters on the side of the box and also the statement made about entropy.

With this in mind, and researching a bit into Information Theory, and also all the clues pointing to a code rather than a cipher, perhaps a level of Entropy Encoding has taken place before we can even start on the solitaire Cipher. Have a look at the link below.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entropy_encoding

There is loads of information and different links on the page and the reading can go on for a while with it so make sure you have a few hours spare - but if anybody can understand what they are saying and how perhaps we can relate it to the card in question then maybe we can get a bit closer.

Sorry, walk in shop. Went back and they don't do cards at all anymore. They've become a video rental store. Confused

Very Happy good to know I've made a difference.

Not necesarily. My other pack doesn't have it on. I think it was supposed to lead us to the manufacturers (chinese based card sompany.) which would lead us to the brand (motor brand) leading us to that pack, to the answer.

Just to throw something interesting into the mix: Its possibly that the phrase 'If entropy wins, outward looks will leave you cold' Could in fact be the cipher text.

Because Solitaire is capable of generating any stream of keys, it is likely as any other string to translate to 'Sente pwn3d this c4rd. He is TEH Hax0r...' or words to that effect.

My packs of Motor cards just arrived...the backs are exact...the Made in China is on the side exactly the same. The gold band seal strip is the same. A second clear seal strip just higher than the gold band is the same.
I am at work, but will have a closer look later...any questions regarding the deck? I will try to answer.

Correction it is not an extra seal strip above the gold strip - it is an indent in the pack box where the pack hinges when you open it. When you open the pack the gold band is removed.

Sorry, the obvious thing to add - the card order in the new pack is...
(face up) joker,joker, A-K diamonds, A-K clubs, A-K hearts, A-K spades.
As the Shuffled card box is drawn, the cards are face down in the box.

Hope that helps Smile
