[UPDATE] Anna Heath's Personal Website (10/3/06)
Quote:
Dead End
Friday, 10th March 2006
I went to pick up a few personal items of Isaac's from the police that they had collected as evidence and are now releasing late in the day yesterday. The officer on duty - a brusque slip of a girl who must have been half my age - sneered at me and said that she had heard I've been a thorn in the department's side lately, and that if I felt competent to second-guess the police, then I should take the service examination myself. I think it's perfectly clear by now I won't be making any progress going down that route.
Roll for Damage has also announced their next surprise show, at Euler's Disk in Amandier. It's just for around an hour on Tuesday evening, but Fleming says the police will be on high alert from probably around half past five clear through to eight o'clock to cope with the gathering crowds. He suggested that this would be the time to schedule for a bit of diversion.
However, there may be a problem with you actually causing a diversion.
I cast a feeler at Kurt this morning about setting up a way for people on Earth to contact the police by phone. It went... poorly. I would think Kurt would take into consideration his knowledge of my character. I am not given to wild flights of fancy. I've always been able to face difficult truths head-on. But instead of giving me a fair hearing, he bristled up and flung a most hurtful diatribe at me about 'giving up on my conspiracy theories.'
I find myself really quite overwrought about it, not just because Kurt has always been a dear in the past, but because it's difficult to discover you can't rely on someone to the extent that you had previously believed. I would do anything I could to help Kurt if he were in a spot - for anyone on my team, really - and I suppose I had just expected that the others would all feel the same way.
One strange thing I noticed, though, looking back. If there is one thing Kurt McAllister is not, it is a competent liar. And when I asked him about setting up a phone exchange system, rather than getting the distant look he gets when he is trying to solve a problem, he took on the rather bored expression he adopts when talking about a problem he's moved well beyond. I'm not sure what to make of it, but I almost think he must have done or seen this sort of thing before. When, though, and why?
Nonetheless - I feel at the end of my wits. It's rare I've felt as helpless as this; I think not since my father passed away when I was fourteen. I would expect to feel some relief from the removal of my ethical dilemma, but instead I'm left with a leaden weight on my chest. How can I live with myself if I permit Isaac's loss to go unpunished? How can I allow others to misremember him as a lonesome coward, and not the devoted scholar I knew him to be? And yet I see no way to move forward.

Do we tell Anna about Kurt's previous "dealings", so she can blackmail him?
Or we could send pleading messages to Kurt I suppose.
Or alternatively forget about the whole thing. Which is pretty dull really.

I'd advise against that. He'd lose all trust in us, and then we'd lose a precious contact.
Kurt just wants to be convinced it's the right thing to do. He just got out of trouble with the police, I understand he doesn't want more. If we could show him that something is amiss, he'd come round...
The only thing is we only have suspicions so far. Have we missed something? The only things I can think of are:
- Anna says Cymbalisty was more lively than usual. Was he taking more Ceretin than usual or maybe starting a relationship?
- He seemed to be unable to function without Ceretin. Was he taking Cognivia Ceretin or the cheap one? Could he have overdosed (with maybe a cover-up from Cognivia?)? Or have got into trouble with Ceretin dealers?
- Maybe the fact that the police isn't releasing all the data is suspicious. Could he get Helena to check the file? Not sure about this one, she might be on the wrong side, and anyway she's not very willing to share information...
Anything else?

Damn man - never give up!!
I reckon we need a two pronged approach - encouragement and support to Anna, and coercion to Kurt, I think the blackmail angle is good, but think we should do it, to keep Anna uncompromised in his eyes.

I can't think of anything we have missed here. What if we can convince someone else to ask Kurt? Maybe ask Violet? We know he would really, if she asked really nicely!

Do Anna and Violet know each other? Anna could ask Violet to flutter her cute little eyelashes at Kurt - we know Violet's not averse to a bit of naughty sneaking around, plus she misses talking to him. She might be more amenable to a request coming from Anna than from us.

it would be foolish to actually tell anna everything, but i think we definitely have leverage to subtly threaten kurt with whilst persuading him to do it. he trusted us enough to keep his secrets and trusted us enough to do the hacks the first two times, maybe if he sees how much we agree with anna and want to go through with this, then he'll trust us to do this one too?
rach =)

Anna went to collect Issacs bits and pieces from the police. Can we ask her if Graniers diary is in with his things, to see that last page???

Don't see any reason not to ask.
Though if I were a museum official I'd be pretty narked off at the police force returning a known museum artifact (violet's blog, Jan 18th) to a personal contact of a suicide instead of sending it directly back to the museum.

I just sent Anna an email asking of she'd go over the things she'd got from the police and maybe to check the apartment one last time for clues. It couldn't hurt, right?

I emailed Anna and asked her if she could go through Isaacs things too.

Did anyone see house yesterday? (it is relevant)
He blackmailed another doctor to do some surgery, then sold him out anyway. Could we follow this approach? Threaten to tell anna information A, get what we need, then give her information B incase she needs future leverage and we've already used the blackmail card?

I just posted this in the Path of Path of Least Time thread, too, but Cognivia is now opening up human drug trials. Hm. How... coincidental. So I was thinking we can rig this to somehow disprove the coroner's findings.
Though, at another angle, didn't the Freudian Texts card mention something about Von getting "a kiss off Anna"? Maybe she's not above using her womanly charms... Oh my god, now I've started pimping. What have you done to me?
