[UPDATE] Path of Least Time 10 March 2006 Number 2

I've had some reasonable - and not so reasonable - emails in response to my last post. Most of you disagree with my decision. Well, how about I put it this way:

None of you were able to give me any evidence that Cymbalisty was murdered other than Anna being suspicious because 'it's not the sort of thing that he would do'. There's no scrap of foreign DNA, no motive, no unusual footprints, no attempts at hacking into his key, no suspects, nothing. So basically, you're putting her word above the police's investigation, and from the looks of the public enquiry, it was very comprehensive. Here's a reminder:

"At the inquest, all anatomical evidence pointed towards Ceretin overdose as the cause of death. There was no sign of physical contact or coercion. The toxicology report also supported the enquiry's conclusion, finding large quantities of Ceretin or Ceretin derivative in Mr Cymbalisty's system."

and

"The scene of crime evidence showed no indication whatsoever that anyone else had been present, either at the time of death or within the previous few days. Fingerprint, footprint and genetic investigations all confirmed this conclusion."

You know, there are dozens of people who commit suicide in Perplex City every year. A few years back, there was another guy at the Academy who killed himself because of depression and a break-up. I'm sure that many of the relatives of those people suspected foul play. Am I supposed to break in to the police website to investigate all of them?

Yes, I've gone on wild goose chases before, and I've hacked into sites. But at least I had some sort of evidence, and at least I didn't put members of the public at risk. Anna's plan isn't just some game where you make crank calls to the police, it's diverting essential police resources away from areas where they might genuinely be required. What if a crime isn't stopped and someone's hurt - or killed - because the police are too overloaded with false alarms?

I'm willing to hear her out, but I'm not impressed, and I'm surprised that you guys are so easily persuaded.

Interesting. My TINAG head still half-suspect murder and that Kurt is not the one to contact wbout this. And then my TIAG head thinks this is MC's subtle way of telling us "No, Cymbalisty was not murdered, stop sending us annoying emails." Ai ai ai! The confusion!

My TIAG head is saying 'stop bugging Kurt, bug Anna'.

My TINAG head thinks that Cymballisty found something out that he wasn't supposed to and was 'silenced'. Anna needs to find something more solid to persuade him with, or this whole plan is never going to happen.

Or, on an entirely different note, Kurt is worried that his communications with us are being monitored, so he's saying what he ought to say.

Maybe we need to have Anna look at Cymbalisty's things she's received from the police, or spook through his apartment and look for a clue to goad Kurt. He is getting rather testy isn't he.

On an interesting note, I was just poking around Cognivia's website and found this:

Quote:
Would you like to take part in testing the next generation of our drugs and help contribute towards our scientific understanding of the brain? Cognivia is looking for healthy young volunteers from 18-30 years old with no previous history of psychological or cognitive problems, or drug abuse. Opportunities are available for single day tests to 12 month studies.

Volunteers will be provided with generous compensation and be provided with full medical care. All drugs involved in our human tests have passed Stage 3 approval. Please contact our Testing Division for more information.
CGW Testing Application Form

If you've successfully completed the puzzle on our Earth CGW advert, please enter your details and the answer below. If you've answered correctly and you are selected as one of our volunteers, we will be in contact with some intelligence testing materials provided by the Perplex City Academy.

There's then a space to enter all your contact info, plus an answer box. I'm thinking... what am I thinking? We sign up for testing, report that we've taken massive doses and feel fit as an orchestra of fiddles? That way, Kurt may have reason to doubt the coroner's report. Of course, I'm not sure what the "Earth CGW advert" they're talking about is. It seems we need to find this, answer a puzzle, and then we can sign up.

Does any of this sound plausible?

Google seems to suggest it might be Computer Graphics World or Computer Gaming World. Maybe we should start looking at current/upcoming issues of these magazines?

Looking at it logically: the timing of Anna's site appearing coincides, more or less, with Kurt refusing to help... suggests Anna is now the route of inquiry, I would think. Anna is the way to go. It seems we are being told to leave Kurt alone for a bit... with allthe Miranda hints and stuff. Imho.

Just dropped Kurt a mail and called him a baboon. Suggested that if he spent a little less time with his 'other' brain in control, he might see things a little differently. Does he really think that someone as smart as Anna could go completely off the rails. Does he really think its ok to abandon all his friends. I suggested he might ask Violet what she thought, that Miranda wouldn't flip out over him seeing his friends, but if he didn't see them they might not be there later.

Honestly, people like this make me want to shake them so hard! What a baboon.

I know Kurt can be a little hard headed but insulting him is not is our best interests since his is the only e-mail I know unless there is another address through which we can contact other members of the CRT.

As to the blog itself our task is to persuade Kurt that this chase is as worthy as the other chases we have sent him on.

One of a number of facts for doubting Cymbalisty's suicide is

where is the final page?

If it is missing who has it?
