[SPEC] Who's real?

Does anyone know if these are real people (in any sense) (Beth,Marcus,Phillip etc.) or just game characters?

There may be some truth in these being real people but I have seen no hard evidence in either direction.

As the photos in the Metacortex directory are all stock images, most of which can be found elsewhere on the 'net, I'd say it's a safe bet that the people we're dealing with are about as real as Metacortex is.

Thats not to say there is no-one on planet earth called Beth McConnell, but if these people are real it means the company is real, which means our hacker friends are real, which also means the matrix is real...

And particularly that last one, I'd rather not dwell on too much. Smile

The main debunker that this isn't "real" per se is that the Metacortex website has no contact info that pays off.

Even Microsoft replies to their emails... eventually... plus, Metacortex's HQ is in a fictional city (Redland).

On top of which, the only character in the game who even acknowledges the exitence of we players (except for the first IRC and ceasar) is Wongmo. I know if dozens of people left emails/voicemails for me at work (as a lot of us have done to Marcus et al) I'd reply to at least some of them with a big "bugger off".

I'm happy to rest assured this is a game. Which is the main reason I'm playing it... Wink

hahaha

If that isn't the weirdest find ever.
Man, that is a total coincidence.

The webdesigner that built the metacortex website uses the same royalty free picture archive for their images as the webdesigner for clearcredit.com

Being that this is just an ARG... finding that is a bit of a goof up that they sure wouldn't like you to see. Embarassed

To give it an element of reality, the designer used a royalty free image of a woman... and that woman is "supposed to be" Beth McConnel.

Unfortuanetly someone that designed clearcredit.com used the same image.

Just pretend you didn't see it. Laughing

Another thing- Are the Wachowski bros and their team really behind this?

There's a lot of debate about whether this is officially sanctioned or not, in several other threads.

My personal opinion is that it doesn't matter: someone has poured a lot of time and effort into setting this up: 6+ websites and counting, a dozen or so phone numbers and fax numbers, and LOTSA effort in lining up the puzzles.

WBs or some zealous and well resourced Matrix fan, irrelevant. I'm just content to play.

Seems to me that this couldn't be anything other than an official Matrix promotion.

First off, the most obvious evidence is the time and money involved. We have the following:

6+ websites ($15 each domain registration)
Gigs of web hosting, dozens of gigs transfer (probably ~$200/month hosting due to the # of sites involved)
Multiple actors (Beth, Marcus, whoever else was on the voice mailboxes)
MASSIVE content
etc.

We're not talking about a simple fanpage here. We're talking about something with probably a $100,000+ budget, depending on how long this thing lasts. And judging by the things we haven't used yet (Cascade Vortex, ALL of the Metacortechs directory pages, the Metacortex login), I have a feeling it's going to last for a few months.

^^ What he said,

plus, they're using WB "Trademarks", like "Metacortex", "Thomas A. Anderson", etc.

They are known to watch the forums, so they must be aware of the game,
I'm sure WB would have brought it down if it wasn't official either for copyright reasons or to prevent damage to the MATRIX-franchise.

They are usually pretty quick in getting stuff they don't like of the web.
