Official Cognivia Ceretin is red based on the pics on Cognivia's website. "Cheap" Ceretin is called Sharp Red as well, so I suspect they're all red. Easier to hide in coffee maybe but you'll need a heck of a concentration mixed in there to kill someone who only makes one cup.

Just in case anyone else was wondering, as I was, if the red was only a coating, my yellow pills are yellow inside, and my pink pills are pink inside, so probably the red pills are red inside!!

My vote: Miranda seduced him (ergo no pants), slipped him a tranq, maybe a neurotoxin, then stuffed him full of Ceretin til he popped. A 3P cleanup crew then arrived and set up the suicide props. Maybe that dark liquid in his stomach was a glass of wine?

Problem is, we have Kurt to confirm that she was with him - they met up early after both bunking off early and got the train from Grand Frederik's - which is on the Eastern side of town. So, heres my wild speculation - Miranda bunks off work early as we know, sprints (we know she's a good runner from Kurt's blog) over to Cymbalisty's. Does "something" sneaky - which I'll leave for you medical experts to figure out (although I shall grill a friend of mine who might be able to help). Maybe all she did was swap his Ceretin supply for a different more potent black market substitue? Jason acts as a messenger, so he contacts Miranda on his key to ensure everything is set up for when Cymbalisty gets back, and that she is gone from his house. She confirms it, so Jason walks off with Cymbalisty - but he could have held him up had Miranda still been busy.
Miranda in the mean time has done her dirty work, and then runs through Polygon Park, which she knows well from her running of the Polygon Marathon (Kurt's blog again). Straight through Polygon Park she goes into the Artist's Quarter where she lives (according to her statement) gets changed, and goes to meet Kurt, and no-one suspects a thing!

Think tetrodotoxin is unlikely - it's quite a polar molecule and iirc it doesn't pass the blood-brain barrier. It works by stopping your nerves conducting, but doesn't affect the metabolism of the nerves per se. So although it may well paralyze you completely (and hence you'd die because you couldn't breathe) it's unlkely to produce the kind of necrosis we're trying to explain as it doesn't kill the nerves, just makes them not work (and I'm pretty sure it doesn't get into the brain itself Wink).

I didn't think tetrodotoxin (I really like that word for some reason) would actually melt the brain, I thought the massive quantity of Ceretin might be used to cover the possible evidence. We don't know if that massive a dose of Ceretin would incapacitate him quickly enough to leave a clue or message or something. We also know that the cleaners wiped all evidence from the apartment, this must have been done after he was dead, or at least in no position to interfere. A neurotoxin that completly paralyzes you would do a good job of ensuring that. Until we know the particulars of a Ceretin overdose, we can't really tell.

Miranda and Jason being the bad guys is far too obvious a plot line to be honest. Its like saying Viard was responsible for the secret message on his album. I think we need to look elsewhere for our culprit/s.

Sorry Very Happy but it does seem too obvious and I think we are trying to twist what we know to fit.

Miranda doesn't need to run back home - the subway will take her closer, and Grand Frederik's is conveniently located in the Artist's Quarter anyway (though I believe she lived a bit further north before her move.)

As an aside, do we know where Kurt lives? I can't find it, and I need to know.

Sorry Centi, misread you there Wink

Well TTX is orally active so could be a possibility, to keep him paralysed, but alive (as I'm guessing the damage from Ceretin wouldn't happen unless you were currently alive for it to make the neurons very active) you'd need some way of ventilating him or be very careful with the dose. Personally I still think this copper in the liver is very dodgy, did a bit of searching about ways of preserving manuscripts and couldn't find any use of copper preservatives on paper, only wood. Have emailed Violet about it (and haven't said anything about the computer files/PM/Isaac etc.) as she's a librarian.

re: Miranda, what's the chance of a geek like Kurt having such a hot girlfriend? OOG This is a game designed for geeks and it will make them feel better, however TINAG its suspicious that a hotty like her would go for him, even if she is a 'librarian'.

Well, probably my mistake - I thought that the Artists Quarter was the NW corner of PXC which we don't yet have the cards for the map? And Grand Frederiks is the opposite side of town almost. Thats why I thought she might have gone through Polygon Park and to her home, from her knowledge of the Park from her running.
I guess I'm just trying to hard to fit up Miranda... Sad

I'd say better than average. The Cheap Ceretin page talks about how being ever-so-much smarter will make you all kinds of sexy with the chicks. We know there is a really really strong tendency fFor smart people to be more attractive than dumb people. Kurt & Miranda's early dates were things like going to see some card games and trivia matches -- and she was a bit sad when he had to sort of blow off some engaging conversation later that night.

As a custom, the people of Perplex City value intelligence over physical strength. Puzzles are not just a sort of casual game in the city, but are fFundamental cornerstones of conversation and interaction.

Smart is Hot. (And personally, I'm given to agree with them.)

No, I think it's mine. For some reason I believed that Aiko lived in the Artists's Quarter. so ignore my spec!

Absolutely not, after all, the geeks shall inherit the Earth! And also......nothing better than the 'Why Miss Jones...' moment with the librarian type imho....... Twisted Evil

Chances better than average, I'd say. Geeks are often extremely good looking, know how to fix your beloved compy/wireless network when it crashes, can make intelligent conversation, know how to treat women properly and are awesome in bed...

...so they're a good option, if attractive men with mad l33t skillz are your thing.

/me is working on the hawt librarian look.

I'll have to keep that in mind, duckie Very Happy

But really, it's not all that unlikely in a city such as Perplex City. Because he isn't unattractive or anything. He's "average," I guess you could say.

To clarify for my confused mind...

Surely if someone (Miranda, Jason, V...) forced Cymbalisty to overdose on ceretin then wouldn't Cymbalisty become a hyper genius before his brain finally explodes? And would this not mean that he could find some way of leaving a subtle secret message for us to find explaining what happened?

That he didn't leave anything like this kind of supports the suicide theory... but surely there are more reliable ways of killing oneself...

Which leads back to the killer(s) using some other means of incapacitating Cymbalisty and disguising it with the ceretin...
