[META][SPEC] GM in-game? GM and LiveGreenGoYellow are now ingame. How is this going to work??? I really hope we don't "discover" that it was actually all a game or something like that.
Why would GM think that this is an advertisement for LGGY (from an in-game standpoint)? It's all very confusing.

Cornfields.
No really, what is wrong with having a little fun with a campaign launch? we had "Last Call Poker" for the video game GUN. We had ILB for the HALO game... what is wrong with having an ARG for something intended to reduce pollution and be a renewable energy source?
If GM did fund this asanother way to announce the campagn, then Kudos to them for looking at novel ways of marketing.

Sorry, my post was confusing. I understand why GM is running the ARG. I've always thought it was them actually. My question is why they've become "in-game". According to Debunkette.com (an in-game website) GM is behind the WIBS blog ads. If this really were happening in the real world, why would GM sponsor a random website about a crop circle that's not likely to go anywhere?

I kinda thought it was a clever angle to take. I, too, wonder just how they're going to pull it off, though. They're walking a REALLY fine line. I guess John Gald will give the next piece of info about the blog ads.
I just hope they haven't painted themselves into the proverbial corner on this one.

Anyone in Miami? Recent updates and a nice solve by six has led us to expect to find information inside a book at the Miami Public Library. Ben Stove hides notes in the library books. This is what Tucker, the main character in the search for Ben wrote:

So any Miamians (Miamiites?) willing to drop by the Main Public Library and take a peek inside Charles Berlitz' Without A Trace for us?
Here is the
thread on the Stove forums
Also the site www.symbolinthecrop.com updated with two additional pages. The puzzle was hidden on those pages. [/url]

Heh.
I posted about the crop circle e-card in the "What movie is WIBS promoting?" thread in the off-topic forum over there on the weekend, but my post has mysteriously disappeared.
I hope I didn't mess anything up.

It probably got moved into another topic. What's your username over there? I can look it up.

Personally, I think it blends in game quite easily. Consider this scenario:
GM researchers were aware of Stoves miracle gro fertilizer techniques back in the day, but couldn't discover his secret formula or methods. Since his dissapearence they have been trying to replicate his techniques with no success. Then they notice Tuckers site pop up. They would have a sifnificant financial interest in discovering everything they could about Stove, from his background and research work on through his present location. They purchase the adds and drive traffic to Tuckers site, lurking in the forums and follow leads.
If they were to find Stove or discover his farming secrets they would have a very strong asset for thier LiveGreenGoYellow campaign.
To me, it makes perfects sense
"in game".

It's 'Enceladus', but I just realised the post I was talking about was actually done here at UF in the "What have we here?" thread. Forgive me, I hadn't slept all night when I wrote this.

Thats a really cool idea. Mine was more pedestrian: GM discovers WIBS (or our spec about ethanol?), realizes the connection between corn and the ethanol cars they are promoting (or whatever), and decides to take advantage of it for some cheap publicity. Basically they piggyback their advertizing on what happens to Tucker (typical big-company insensitiveness?)
After writing that parenthisis, i realized that both my idea, and your idea, Ethernull, kindof make GM into Bad Guys, or at least Rude Guys.
