[URGENT] #syzygy users please read

The #syzygy IRC channel was trolled last night by a user called 'nick'.

He posted a link to a so-called 'shock site' that could potentially damage your PC disguised as a .JPG of a cute fluffy animal (what a crime!). Please be careful when going through last night's logs and don't click on anything posted by this user.

He's been banned by the lovely channel ops and by the superb chat-solutions.org people, but there's every chance that (like the terminator) he'll be back.

/me appreciates the usage of the term 'cocking a snook' in the article.

Given recent events, I would strongly recomend that everyone ensures that their nick is registered. It would be too easy for a troll to come along under a persons name and post some rubbish, and someone will click on it thinking that they can trust that person.

To register your nick, you need to write the following in the "Chat Solutions" main window:

/msg nickserv YOURNICK register

Follow the instructions on screen to register your nick.

Just to clarify what this exploit involves...

It opens many "floating" pop-up windows and any speakers/headphones you have connected begin making loud noises and shout out something rather offensive to some.

It also opens several instances of both Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird and seems to attempt to send out emails to everyone in your address book. It does -not- send out any messages in Thunderbird, as for Outlook, I am not sure.

The only way to stop this is to completely restart your computer, logging off and on again will not fix the problem.

To repeat the first post...Do not click any links from people you do not trust.

Uhm. I have no idea what that will do, but I'm pretty sure it won't work (correct me if I'm wrong though)

The correct format would be /msg nickserv register password email
Most clients will accept /ns as an abbreviation of '/msg nickserv'

Use /ns identify password to logon and keep your nick.

It can also be done in any window, including private messages, but it's safest to do it in the server window in case you cock up and tell everybody your password by mistake.

Yes I will correct you Peer bach, either method works. Nickserv will help you withn instructions, either way.
