As a few of us have already offered up PC power etc is it worth someone getting a mailing list together so that once all key components are in place a simple email can be sent with client details etc to all those who have expressed an interest in helping? Also are we going to need to run any test files to check we have a workable plan? Again if so then please count me in and let me know I will certaily be happy to contribute.

Also, has anyone been concatenating a list of what keys have already been tried.

There are various references in the original thread to people starting runs off and leaving them going . . .

I can build an app that would search for common words and provide an upload point for you. If you mail me at markalong64SPLAThotmail.com then I will make it so

OK - I've not run away - and some progress has been made. I have a Work Unit database set up - with some mickey mouse proritization made. I have gone back to a single DT_WORK_UNIT from the multi part structure.

I'm working at the moment on a heaviliy customised .NET port of the RCCRYPT 1.6 Client with PXC extensions and appropriate service and connectivity wrapping. The Web Services to access the DB will then follow - they are in fact the easy bit.

Once this is done, I'll parcel clients out to a handful of people to verify that it is doing the right thing. Heh, don't expect this to be tonight however, this is done in my spare time around family commitments.

I don't think I'm going to be able to host the work unit database myself - as it looks like firewall and other issues are going to get in the way of the box I wanted to use, and my private machines - while available - don't have the grunt. Don't ask me the details - I am simply told by those who know that this is the case - I delegate where necessary Smile. So once the POC is complete I'll be looking for an appropriate host.

My computer says it is bored and would like something to do while I'm not here. I suggested this project and it likes the idea.

Obey the computer.

Hi all. I was chatting in IRC and made a few suggestions last night and while I remember them I thought I would post them for feedback / action.

1) I am going to design a simple gif image / link Icon that we can post into our websites (I will on mine) the PCX forum and UF board for 13th labour. this will provide a direct link to the client they need to download / download page - It might be worth setting up a web page that has an explaination etc even look at stats of progress as they have on distributed.net. It can also be used by others to post in their blogs etc. we could even ask Kurt and Viloet to mention it in thiers too.

2) I figure we could try and contact as many PXC players as possible. It may be worth posting a generic "help us" message on the PXC site requesting people email us with contact details that we can then use to creat a mailing list to tell them when everything is set up / how to get set up. I would be willing to use a secondary account I have and create a smple mailing list for this purpose.

3) Get a link in the IRC channel topic

4) send a letter to the sentinel?

5) ask as many of our lovely friends to set this up to run everytime they use their little PC until the attack is over Smile

all I can remember now but if it sounds a good idea let me know and i will certainly get on with stuff

I'm more than happy to help, but as I use a mac, I'm not sure I'd be able to. Here's hoping I can!

I'm thinking that the puzzle creators may have been nice to us and purposely placed the key early on in the key space (when attacked systematically). Like guessing a five digit padlock with the code being 14521 or whatever. Long enough to make "us" have to set up a distributable client etc. - short enough to make it realistic. One can dream, right?

Anyway, Minimum ~15 3.0Ghz computers. Maximum ~200 depending on how invisible the program is. Wink
