I don't have this card yet. I was just reading through the thread.

On the search for the key, I started glancing through the other cards to see if I could find any 8 or 16 digit keys.

I have to ask. Has anyone tried YI ISTIA? (Card 22)

The MAC users out there, Mono (http://www.go-mono.com/) *might* allow you to participate. I'm not sure, and I don't think its very efficient, but every cycle is useful Smile

I have done a lot of research into Mono in the past (mostly to see if I could get the Labyrinth[/url[ ARG design tool running on Linux or Mac.) Unfortunately, Mono does not include the Microsoft windowing objects. If the app has any sort of GUI, you're out of luck unless you use the QT window toolkit, which works both under .Net on Windows and Mono on other operating systems.

Update 29/3

OK I don't want to spam this thread too much, nor turn it into a blog, but some updates are called for.

The assault client code is done and unit tested - and it runs like hot stuff off a shovel. On my laptop (An Intel PIV 3.2) it did a work unit in 12 minutes.

This shaves a HUGE amount off the net processing time, and thus number of clients to make this work.

With only 250 clients this is now doable in 9 months.

The Webservices and DB for GetWorkUnit and MarkUnitCompleted are all unit tested, I'm working on testing the service client to make sure it is machine friendly considering how CPU intensive it is.

The work, all in all from my end is probably going to be ready for System Testing at the end of the week. Can someone with a SQL Server/Wintel box .NET available drop me a PM - as I'm probably going to want to start remote testing at the weekend.

READY to Test

I have a Test Client (foreground in this case - refining a final client) ready to go to start ramping this up. This is not the final client - but it is fully functional. The Web Services and Database are already running and available - I've been running test clients for a couple of days now.

It needs a PC with the .NET Framework 1.1 installed (or higher), and a very limited amount of PC knowledge (enough to Unzip a .ZIP and click a binary).

Can anyone interested in this phase of testing drop me a PM with a place (hopefully an Email address) that I can send the .ZIP and instructions, and I'll get you up and testing

Updating you all - we have been testing various preliminary clients over the last week, and have processed about 800 work units thus far.

Anyone else who is willing to join us - please PM me here, and I'll get you sorted with a Test Client.

Just to confirm, we have it running on both Linux and OSX using the mono framework (check out http://www.mono-project.com/Downloads). Once the framework is installed, you just have to do 'mono TestClient.exe' from the command line. I'm finding my Linux box is significantly faster, but that's probably just different interpreter versions...

Now that the client is currently being tested I have just updated the page i intend to use as a method of promoting / downloading. It is simple and will have an ID TEN T guide to the installation.

The page is 13th Labour

As if that wasnt enough and all the work Chimera has put in I am going to add a little incentive of a prize to the lucky individual that finds the key - I will post details once we have all our penguins in a row Smile

I will be adding a linkified image that can also be post EVERYWHERE to promote this.

Anything else please feel free to PM me

I'll be honest, I don't know how this thinger works, but assuming chimera245 will be the first to know the answer, I think we have some real good options as far as incentives go. We could give second solve honors to tht lucky SOB who's client stumbles onto the solve (chimera getting first solve of course). We could have the final answer e-mailed out to only those who participated in the brute force (The answer would be posted a few days later for everyone else). I was also thinking of a stat page. If we had a little leader board up tracking the number of work units each person has completed, I think it would get things going. Basically I think we need a gimmick. Something to get people to donate their CPU time. Good idea? Bad idea? Already an idea?

Also, how does this thing work? What gets processed client side? What is being used to check for potential solves? I'll go back through and read the past posts just in case it's been mentioned. Maybe I'll try Ollie's "search" method.

Edit: Okay, I read through and found the post that explains it all. So my question is - have we defined Phase II yet?

from what I have been updated on talking with Chimera the client being email registration will tell Chimera who and if they look at their client it should tell them too.

As an incentive goes i was thinking about the added numbers we need and was more thinking in terms of cards - Im gonna put something together out of the shear goodness of my heart

I've also got the OS X Client up and running.
Thanks to chimera and mj for getting me rolling.

Guin, let us know what you're thinking about in terms
of incentive. I, and I'd bet others, would be willing to
chip in spare cards or something.

I second that. I've got some blacks and purples that could go into the pot.
