PerplexCity Puzzle Cards - new stockists - USA

This will (hopefully) be the counterpart list for any USA stockists of the cards.

Please find below the latest list of US retailers who are stocking the PxC cards. Feel free to add any new that you might encounter, or if you have any potential additions to the list, dash off a missive to retailSPLATmindcandydesign.com

Cards are still available in the normal manner from Firebox.

Please drop me a message if I've made any typo's or glaring geography errors and I'll correct them. Feel free to add any new stockists on here too, or likewise just message me and I'll incorporate them into this post.

Cheers
J

Despite working not that far from Toy Tokyo, it's cheaper and easier to order from Firebox. What's up with that?

What is up with that? I would think surely the shipping and money conversions and everything all together would certainly make walking to the store *way* cheaper. (I assume you walk.. it seems to be the mode of choice in the city)

Great news for Stateside players - post NY Toy Fair, Mind Candy have today announced the following:-

Quote:
Now available online in America!
Some great news for our American players - Perplex City is now available through online retail from our friends at Insound.

It's $20 for four packs, and $10 for two - free shipping if you buy four though. Insound give the following details about the cards/game, which is similar but not exactly the same blurb as Firebox have.

Quote:

Puzzles. They're a bit of a guilty pleasure, aren't they? When we are doing a wordsearch in one of those puzzle magazines, we'll admit that we hide it when someone else enters the room. They've been predictable and fun since you've been a kid - just like crosswords and Sudoku - but they've never been, how can we put this, cool.

Until now that is.

Welcome to Perplex City - a completely new type of puzzle that's starting to cause more than a stir around the world.

It's The Matrix meets Alice in Wonderland meets The Da Vinci Code in one of the most unusual concepts we've ever seen at Insound. If it wasn't insanely compelling, we wouldn't divert our attention from music to sell it. Is it a game? Is it a story? Is it a series of interlinked puzzles spanning mysterious websites, cryptic phone calls, stray emails, hidden messages and live events in random cities around the world? We're not entirely sure to be honest...some call it an Alternate Reality Game. Others describe it as interactive fiction. Videogame geeks call it a real life MMO. For us indie kids, we just like the puzzles and are looking forward to seeing this thing reveal itself.

What is known is this - a valuable object, the Receda Cube, has been stolen from a place called Perplex City and hidden somewhere on Earth. The people of Perplex City desperately need it back and have offered a reward of US $200,000 to the first person that cracks the mystery and finds it. The cube really exists. And the $200,000 is real US cash.

This is where the puzzles come in. Created by a range of leading designers and illustrators, the Perplex City puzzle cards range in difficulty from the fun and easy to the captivatingly complex. There are beautifully crafted riddles, origami challenges, pop culture trivia, logical mindbenders, 3D mazes, Egyptian hieroglyphs and much, much more. These cards are the entryway into the world of Perplex City and contain information and clues essential to unraveling the mystery and finding the missing Cube. Note: there is a record label in Perplex City called Hesh Records!

Perplex City is the sort of enigma where sheer brain power isn't as valuable as creative and lateral thinking. In other words, a quick-witted child is as likely to piece the story and clues together as is a retired Math professor. So what will it be - the blue pill or the red pill? If you value your sanity and free-time we suggest you take the easy way out. Alternatively, step this way, your rabbit hole awaits...

-Each Perplex City pack contains 6 cards
-Cards measure 148mm by 105mm
-There are 256 cards in the set. 132 cards are currently available: 66 were released in Wave 1 and a further 66 in Wave 2
-The first wave of 66 cards and the second wave of 66 both have "Limited Edition Pre release wave 0.5" marked on the cards, and both ship in the same outer foil packaging.

Get some cards, do your best to figure em out, and get to www.perplexcity.com to get on the leaderboards. Then it's on!

Buy the 4 pack and get free shipping!

J

Edit: Yes, thank you for your input ChiChiri, although I'm reasonably certain that the players in the US would have been able to work that out for themselves. Have a cookie. Rolling Eyes

For all you fellow Bay area peeps, Games of Berkeley is currently out of stock on all Perplex City stuff, with no idea at present of when they'll restock. They did take my name and offer to call me when they know something, so I'll repost if I hear anything.

Great little store, though.

Incidentally, unless my math is off, it looks like it's actually cheaper right now to order online from Firebox than from Unsound. Funny, no?

Seems to be the running theme on US stores. It makes sense though buying from Firebox (the initial company) than a third party company as they want their profit margin also. Just think while waiting for the mail to arrive we get to work on those pesky silvers!

I think I may continue to buy cards from Firebox, even though I think the cards from Insound are ultimately cheaper (taking shipping into consideration). The Insound website doesn't seem to work all that well (it took something like an hour to get my order to go through) and at this point I feel this strange loyalty to Firebox.

And I like the fact that they send me weird candy with my cards. Do they do this for everyone? My last set of cards came with gummy fried eggs.

Yeah, they send "candy" with every order i've had from them in the past couple of years. And I know what you mean about a loyal customer, for PPC cards I know another uk site with £2.19, free shipping, but I just feel loyal to firebox.

I just tried Insound, and I think I'm going back to Firebox. I placed an order last Friday, and it took over a week to get to me! In just a plain, plain bubble package. With Firebox it was 4-5 days. I'm also hoping I'll get lucky and get another pack of gummi cola bottles. Smile

(They didn't send me any silvers, either Evil or Very Mad )

I posted all the info to a message board for a game store in my town. This was the reply I got:

good work jot!

did toy tokyo used to sell cards online or am i just making that up? because their website is www.toytokyo.com but they seem to have redesigned it so its all toys and no cards or comics (unlike the shop, or at least was last time i went there)

i've ordered stuff from insound before (to the uk) and they've been fine with me, cheap too (*wonders about exchange rates...*)

rach =)

We've got 'em now, too!

They're available to all US retailers through GTS distribution, so now any store in the US can carry them! Hoody-hoo! Very Happy
