Looks like the basis of a Cootie Catcher to me (mmm memories of elementary school)

my guess would be to copy it, print it out and fold it up (directions) and see what it reads.

You have to make a catcher from the diagram (we used to make these in school when I was a kid to find out who each other fancied - I used this website to remind me how to make it). When you put it together it'll spell out a two-word phrase.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Cut out the square and fold it like you did as a kid. Then read it. You might want to do an enlarged photocopy to make it easier to fold.

Or if you just want the answer

Heres a pic of the finished image for those that don't want to bother making one! I'm not sure what we called them at school, but I'm not sure it was a catcher - we did make them though & I managed to remember without having to look it up, which I'm sure means that I wasted far too much time at school.

Thanks, but you might want to change the name of the file for those that don't want to see the answer!

We always called them Fortune Tellers too, I was very surprised at how quickly I remembered how to make the things! I'm not about how much truth there is to this, but I think if you take the catcher/fortune teller upside down you get a 'lotus flower' oragami.

I've made the catcher and got the phrase

from the first two 'layers', but I can't make anything intelligable from the other two. Is it just those two words that are necessary or do I need to keep trying with the other 16 letters?

Those two words are the solve.
However, there may be other information hidden in the other letters.
Not many vowels left though Confused

Man that one was sneaky for an orange. I've never heard of the term "catcher" before. Is it a UK thing?

I got the first word by

and came here to see why it wasn't working.

As for the person who said there might be more info...

There's only four sets of adjacent letters that are in the same alignment and spell out QA Childs. "CH" and "IL" in the top corners. "DS" at the bottom of the middle diamond. "QA" in the bottom right.

They're called "cootie catchers" in at least some parts of America. This is close enough to the card title that it enabled me to solve it.

Thought I would just post here... We called them 'Chatter Boxes' when I was at school (in Kent England)

And we used them for Truth or Dare.

I remember these from when I was a kid. I don't remember them having a name or anything.
Mattel has made an electronic version for the poor children out there who dont have access to pen and paper.

We called them Chatter Boxes too up here in Scotland. Never heard them called anything else but I got the idea of what to do after reading the first couple of posts, so thank's everyone!
