Somehow I think that the game was designed to end with the reveal that GM was the sponsor with the twist that GM denies being the sponsor. I can't comment on the timing of the last few weeks because I could never follow the pacing of this story. I always had this feeling that we were missing something, but we were all over the site, and if we did miss something, it isn't because we didn't look. Smile

While players' reactions are important, I am not at all sure that the posts of a handful of people drive the advertising decisions at GM or the agency. I remember being surprised at the large number of hits that the Art of the Heist campaign brought Audi, because while those numbers translated into measurable results for Audi, they didn't bring a huge number of new players into that game. Perhaps something similar happened in WIBS.

It will be interesting to hear the post-game chat on this one.

I think this game was designed primarily to attract a casual player/ lurker who would read Tucker's blog once a week. The solves of the puzzles led us to library notes that didn't seem to reveal new information. I am guessing that the game was designed as one component of GM's "live green go yellow" campaign -- a feeder site if you will, to reach a new group of people.

You think because a couple of vocal people don't like GM, they cut the entire game short? Out of 1000 or so registered users on the WIBS boards, something like 5 complained about GM. I have no doubt that the game ended in exactly the manner planned from the beginning.

If so, that's a real disappointment.
