[LET'S PLAY] Mornington Crescent Just been reading through the "Favourite Cards" Thread, and I've been thinking about how much I loved seeing Mornington Crescent pop up on one of the cards. So, being an ex-professional player myself, I thought I'd see if anyone fancied a game.
As there'll probably be a few players who are new to the game, I think we should use the traditional London system, and the hallowed 1899 Gertstrasse Rules which allow for an easier style of play. So let's begin with...
MARBLE ARCH
Game on!

Having to stay within the confines of the Gertstrasse ruleset means my hand is forced somewhat. However we can still make it interesting ...

Well sir, I riposte with a double-back:
HIGH STREET KENSINGTON

HIGH STREET KENSINGTON!! I thought that move was banned in the 60's after Winston Churchill died??? Unless we're not using the state funeral rule?
either way I reply:
CHALK FARM

Rich, the Perivale to High St Ken move is permissable on the Wednesday before Good Friday because of the interaction by the Archbishop of Canterbury's desire to keep Easter more special following the Profumo affair.
Chalk Farm is a bizzare move though, I can only assume you're trying to instigate the Tagisari procedure which leaves me with only one option. Lurch to Zone Four.
BARKING.

Aha! The infamous double-entranchment move, eh? I know it was popularized by Rommel - indeed he barely played a game in his later days without utilising it - but I didn't think anyone used it anymore. It's just so... antiquated! Still, a legal move nonetheless. I bow to your historical knowledge.
Now, what to play...? Barking is always a tricky area to come out of, but with a little luck... hmmm... yes. I can invoke the 1922 back Bench Committee's rule and take us to WESTMINSTER.

Very well:
BLACKFRIARS
yes I know what your all thinking, but the Lord Alderton gambit can be played provided the King/Queen is celebrating a designated milestone birthday.

Well, well, well sneaky sir. I must bring in General Picton's quandary of 1859. An old lore granted, but it allows me to go to take this journey to:
FARRINGDON

Oh jo. Oh jo, oh jo, oh jo.
How could you leave yourself so open? Surely you remember that bringing in General Picton's quandary to get to a station that serves both the Metropolitan and Hammersmith opens up the chance for the next player to instigate the ol' 'St Keed's weapon of choice' maneuver. And so without further ado I have no real option other than to abuse your weakened position and head straight to
STONEBRIDGE PARK!

In the words of Treguard off of Knightmare; oooooh... nasty!
So, Stonebridge Park, is it? It's time to recall the game of the eighties, when (of course) hooliganism was rife in the MC Scene. Who can forget the riots between the French (players of 'Le Metro', their own bastardized version of our national game) and the English at the 1982 World Cup? The burning of flags? The numbers lost? The fact that Tottenham Hotspurs' own Ozzie Ardiles' rescinded his Argentinian nationality to represent England, and the HATE that caused? Some circles believe it may well have been a catalyst for the Falklands War. Anyhow, I digress...
I play 'Ozzie's Dream'. We are on our way to WEMBLEY CENTRAL!

i think you forgot the branislav v trenton match (1935 -- casablanca -- where trenton played oxford street to branislav's baron's court, after long deliberation it was declared a legal diagonal due to the 2nd depth rule) -- so an opening move at this point (by a new player) at edgware gives me a 1 move tempo with large potential
so -- EDGWARE

I don't believe that applies in the Gertstrasse rule set, actually (remember - this is the simplified version!) I'll have to check the book later.
Um..so if we use Edgware, that means I can't play Camden Town, yes?
Using the old standby, Knight's Move: TOTTENHAM COURT ROAD.
