[UPDATE] The Path of Least Time - 13/04/2006 - Cognivia

Cognivia, and a crowd

Well, it seems like there might be something going on with Cognivia. They're apparently developing a next-next-generation version of Ceretin, called Ceretin 6 (the current gen is Ceretin 4, and the next gen is unsurprisingly Ceretin 5). That much is public, but Anna managed to unearth a semi-private shareholder report. Most of it is the usual marketing nonsense, but one part stands out - "test anomalies" with Ceretin 6. The fact that they would even mention such a thing in a shareholder report indicates to me that there are some serious problems in their development of the drug.
It's nowhere near a smoking gun in terms of evidence, and to be honest I think that linking Ceretin 6 test anomalies to Cymbalisty's death is stretching things. I certainly can't imagine why Cognivia might be involved, but it's undeniable that they have the capability to easily make ceretiva deriatives - the substance that killed Cymbalisty. Apparently Cognivia are releasing details of the Ceretin 6 tests in a research paper this month, but only to cognitive enhancement professionals. Maybe Anna might be able to sort something out there, but Cognivia are notoriously wary about giving away their test data; corporate espionage is still a problem here in Perplex City.
As for the rest of my life, it's a bit quiet. Miranda and I visited the Centric Artificial Rainforest in Polygon Park while we were checking out the marathon route, and they had some interesting exhibits on similarities between our plants and those on Earth. It turns out that Miranda studied plant biology back at university - she seemed a bit embarrassed to admit it when I was surprised about how much she knew, but eventually she owned up.
Miranda left yesterday to visit her parents and go to a conference, so she'll be away for at least a couple of weeks. When she gets back I'm hoping to quiz her a little more about the plants - it's something I always wished I learned more about.
I'm not going to get into the whole Caine/Violet/Sente maelstrom... let's just say that it's already threatening to engulf the entire CRT. Right now I'm trying to keep my head down.

Has Kurt been reading these boards? I can't see anything there about Cognivia that hasn't already been speculated. Anyone out there specialize in cognitive enhancement, by the way?

Hmm, could Miranda be an Earthling?

Ryandrew...
That might be the very sentence that could confirm every nagging suspicion we ever had about Miranda since she showed up.

I suppose it's feasible that she studied both plant biology and anthropology...
..and learned how to cultivate synthetic plant pheromones to snare the unwary!

And if she is . . . how did she get to PXC?

Her placement in PXC would be the link to her involvement in the heist, as well as harboring information as to how the Cube got across, and maybe even the general idea of where it is!
(Honestly, I think, in all this hooplah, we all forgot that the Receda Cube is still buried somewhere... I did, anyway.)

Or at the very least, which plants make the active substance known as ceritiva.
So. Suspicious fluffy haired woman, taking a sudden liking to Cymballisty shortly before he pops his clogs, arriving in work and becoming entangled with our two favourite lovely people in Perplex City, quickly seduces Kurt, who we all know should be having teh hawt secks with Violet and now has a confirmed background in plant sciences, which might mean she knows her way around a lab.
/me smells several rats.

does "training camp" = conference? Kurt emailed me today saying she was away at training camp. odd.
And I don't know if there's a connection, but Allain was also quite the plant expert as well. Went to Edyta College, if you go by his story, or didn't at all, according to official records.

in other words: pretend to be a cognitive enhancement professional so we can get our hands on this research paper.
how?

i know that was probably rhetorical but no, kurt isn't supposed to have access to these boards. mind candy obviously do, but to be honest, i think its probably more likely that we are just *so* good at speccing that we actually get things right once in a while ;)
rach =)

This could be a false trail, but http://www.cognivia.com/login/ may be the way to go, if we can figure out a way to get a login. Possibly Violet may see if Isaac was actually a tester for Ceretiva 6, and thus may have had a login to Cognivia's website.
Okay, officially trouted...I accept it, filet it, and serve it with a nice dry white wine.

The secure account option doesn't seem to be discussed. The screen says 'login has been disabled from your location'. I wonder if Kurt could work his magic to get us access. What does everyone else think of this?

Well, at the moment at least, and for my personal attempt, it didn't really work. Unless the "submit" type button is hidden somewhere I didn't see it, I think there isn't even a way to TRY to login, much less actually do it...

I think enough people pelt Kurt with emails that he'll have a reasonable idea of current spec.

Well if Miranda told Violet one thing and Kurt another, then we know she is lying, maybe we should put some thought into the why she is lying and where she ACTUALY is going. Do we have any Family history on Miranda? Like where her family is, who they are etc?
Also, the link with allain, i was thinking this myself. Miranda seemed reluctant to show she has knowlage of plant biology, and allain showed he has knowlage, but seems to have lied about where he was taught this knowlage (official records VS his story) ...Its Spec, but maybe we should look at where they actualy learnt their plant stuff, seeing as neither one seems to want to give much away as to the where's or why's.
Have an annoying feeling that allain isnt as innocent as we think he is.
Am i the only one thinking this?
