Colorized version of the PM chat. Individual questions are broken up into quoted sections. Enjoy! (Yeah, so I missed a color, then when I added it in I goofed something up. I'm working on it.) (Whee! All fixed!)

Quote:
<Rowan> Okay - Welcome to Who Is Benjamin Stove? PM chat
<Rowan> We'll be starting in a just a minute or two, but first, the rules
<Rowan> Each person will be allowed to ask 1 question and 1 *related* followup
<Rowan> Please have your questions typed out and ready to be pasted when you are voiced
<Rowan> If you need any help during the chat - please /msg an op
<Rowan> Now - I would like to take this time to welcome the PMs: brooke, flmutant, Iain, JimmyG and snamo

<flmutant> where's Dave?
<Rowan> Would you guys like to make an opening statement before we start taking questions?
<Iain> don't know
* snamo waves
<flmutant> yeah, I can make just a quick one.
* Iain says hell jeah!!!
<flmutant> First off, thanks to all you guys, we had such a blast watching you play the game.
<snamo> I would just like to say that I had a lot of fun watching all this unfold, and would like to thank all the players
<snamo> jinx.

<flmutant> Where's my ducktape, Sid?
<flmutant> If you guys don't know, Kevin and Iain are the fine folks from Campbell.

<Iain> Actually, same here -- this whole experience has been a great one. We loved every minute of this campaign, and are sad to see it end...well...finish for now
<JimmyG> Yo, Dave!
<flmutant> imbri/Brooke and Jimmy G were two of our superb writers.
<Iain> DAVE!!!!!
<DaveSz> Hello everyone
<flmutant> Dave, of course, is the fiendish puzzle lord to which we all make sacrifices.
* Iain give standing ovation to Tucker, Deb and Mom!!!!
<flmutant> And you might find Rod lurking in here as well, who was our great Benjamin ranter.
<snamo> it doesn't look like mr. stove will be able to make it this evening however. the now infamous Rodney Weston
<Iain> well, i'm sure everyone will know who "g_zeus" is, if he signs on
<brooke> heh
<flmutant> Looking forward to the questions, let 'em rip Smile

Quote:
<Rowan> Okay, first up is Ciaran
<Ciaran> Hiya!
<Iain> hi
<flmutant> heya, Ciaran!
<DaveSz> hi
<JimmyG> Hi!
<Ciaran> First, thanks for the game. Sorry I disappeared during the latter half of it.
<Ciaran> What was the symbol at the right of the note on http://forums.whoisbenjaminstove.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=122 meant to represent? The map idea didn't work out ( http://matrix.theblob.org/map4-black.jpg ) and as far as I know, the quipas idea didn't work out either. What *was* it?
<Iain> kev, u can take this one
<snamo> well...i found a portion of it on a quipa site, and modified it a bit
<snamo> it meant absolutely nothing
<snamo> Sad

<JimmyG> Nnnnoooooo!
<JimmyG> You bastard!

<Ciaran> That'd explain it. Sad
<flmutant> You didn't tell 'em that!
<snamo> well...except what you all put into it
<flmutant> Smile
<Iain> hahaha...too funny! it was basically a scribble! sorry yall.
<snamo> that meant something
<snamo> meant i felt like a bastard

<catherwood> Rorsarch ink circles, great
<JimmyG> jk, kev
<flmutant> won't be the last we talk about tonight
<snamo> Smile i know
<Ciaran> Oh well, we had fun anyway. Hehe.
<flmutant> flup?
<Rowan> follow-up?
<flmutant> jinx!
<snamo> i almost thought you guys WOULD find something in it
<Ciaran> Nah, can't think of anything.
<Ciaran> Thanks. Smile

Quote:
<Rowan> Okay - thanks! Next up - sidtheduck
<Ciaran> I have another question but I'll go back in the queue.
<flmutant> Sid Smile
<JimmyG> Yeah, i was amazed at all the different things that angle-thingie DID fit into!
<Iain> GO SID!!!!
<JimmyG> Sid!
<sidtheduck> hey all. Thanks again for poppin my ARG cherry!!
<snamo> ah the shiny fowl
<flmutant> heh heh
<sidtheduck> well, here goes
<sidtheduck> it's pretty lame Smile
<sidtheduck> What were some of the most memorable moments (by a PM, writer, or player) during the playing of WIBS?
<snamo> usually i wouldn't talk to you, and just get you a cab...but tonight i feel good
<flmutant> I think Mom was brilliant.
<brooke> Smile
<flmutant> But Miami was pit of my stomach.
<brooke> yeah, i'd have to say Mom. and Miami
<JimmyG> Ooh yeah
<Iain> i would say the first few days were the craziest....we didn't expect the forums to blow up as quick. And not to mention the poster that had the news articles from Minnesota.
<DaveSz> i liked the finnish magazine article myself Wink
<JimmyG> Yeah, that was crazy!
<Iain> yeah, for sure
<flmutant> That was nice too, Dave.
<flmutant> Especially since it actually advanced the story.

<brooke> ooo that's another good one
<Iain> not only the finnish article, but allowing Jim to do the interview in character
<flmutant> It wasn't planted.
<Iain> Bringing GM and C-E in-game was pretty interesting as well
<flmutant> But we let Tucker talk about stuff he hadn't revealed yet.
<JimmyG> Yeah, I thought Matti Jarvi did a really nice job keeping it pretty IG
<snamo> i loved our little moment of limelight
<snamo> me and iain, and finding out that i look like chris elliot

<sidtheduck> heheh, sorry it took us so long to translate it (thanks marloff!!)
<Iain> and Smashmouth!!!!
<JimmyG> Yeah, thanks, marloff Smile
<JimmyG> That post was hilarious

<sidtheduck> well, thanks
<snamo> i've got Rod on the phone - his was the tinfoil baseball cap library pickup
<flmutant> flup sid?
<Iain> funnier was Blue K's rendition of Bunnyface -- trust me, christine was embarrased for a bit
* sidtheduck tries to think up a counter-question, but fails
<sidtheduck> bunny face cracked me up good
<DaveSz> i thought christine was great btw
<JimmyG> Century 21 blazer, stiletto heels...genius!
<brooke> she absolutely was
<sidtheduck> quite
<flmutant> thanks, Sid Smile
<brooke> though in my head deb had quite the southern accent
<brooke> and not the midwestern one Smile

<JimmyG> Heh, me too

Quote:
<Rowan> Okay - next up we have a couple of questions from UF
<Rowan> Dr. Confoundo: What was up with the painting, and what did the x-ray technicians at the airport see? That never seemed to get answered.

<JimmyG> Um...yes
<flmutant> heh heh
<DaveSz> lol
<flmutant> hit it Jimmy
<Iain> ummmm
<JimmyG> I purposely made it ambiguous, just wanted to convey that there was something weird and "otherwordly" about the painting...
<JimmyG> I figured I'd throw it out there and see what YOU GUYS theorized about it
<JimmyG> Some very plausible ideas, really, lead paint and all

<Iain> well, the creation of the painting was done over christmas holiday -- i called Brad the last day before holiday, and asked him to paint something in the next week....he did....and he did a great job!
<flmutant> flup?
<Rowan> No, since it wasn't my question Smile
<flmutant> oh, heh heh

Quote:
<Rowan> One more from UF: Tien_Le: Also, was the Miami hoax note part of the game, or did someone actually manage to co-opt the game?
<flmutant> heh heh
<Iain> brian, this is you!
<flmutant> yeah, joy
<flmutant> so that was always planned to be intercepted note
<flmutant> but you should have gotten an extra MIB physical interaction there as well

<Iain> hope u got a hundy for crispy
<flmutant> we were standing with luggage, ready to drive to Miami at noon when it was less than clear if a player was going to materialize
<flmutant> so we sent our Miami stasher back to take the "you gotta meet us" note back and replace it with the "fake note" the MIB would have delivered in person
<flmutant> for fear that the "Saturday at 9PM" would pass with no interaction
<flmutant> no more did that go into motion than poor crispy jumped in
<flmutant> Sad
<flmutant> it was a race to see which person ended up at the library first
<flmutant> an interesting example of the dangers of dynamic pacing
<flmutant> otherwise, you would have gotten threatened by me or Jimmy G in person!
<flmutant> but that crazy note was exactly the crazy note you would have gotten from the MIB
<flmutant> a wonderful creation of Jimmy's

<JimmyG> yeah, that was fun
<Iain> i think the term "Fenwicked" will live on forever!!!
<flmutant> heh heh

Quote:
<Rowan> Okay - next up is Six
<flmutant> any follow up on that?
<flmutant> from anyone else in the team?

<Rowan> maybe if i can voice six..
<Rowan> wow - lag

<Six> Thanks so much for the awesome game and all the devious puzzles Very Happy
<JimmyG> Um...I didn't actually have a bag packed, but i had my shorts all folded neatly
<flmutant> heya, Six Smile
<DaveSz> you're welcome six
<Six> I wanted to know, were any things we missed puzzle or story wise?
<JimmyG> Yeah, thank you, six
<flmutant> Hmmm, Dave, didn't they manage to skip over one puzzle or something?
<flmutant> or one portion?

<Iain> i know they missed the grid
<Iain> on sitc

<flmutant> mind ... blurs ... with ... puzzles ...
<JimmyG> heh
<brooke> puzzles make me cry
<DaveSz> well there were some small elements built into the puzzles that tied into the ethanol and mythology themes that were missed
<Six> heh, SitC = puzzle overload
<Iain> but they did complete the background maze, so i guess that counts
<DaveSz> things like the number 109 popping up in spots
<DaveSz> that had to do with the 109 degree angle found in erthanol molecules

<flmutant> yeah, 109 Smile
<DaveSz> and some mythology stuff tothat was missed but most of it was picked up on
<Six> thought that was what the 109 was all about
<Iain> i thought word search was fun!!!
<DaveSz> and yes, addlepated manage to bypass one part of a puzzle
<catherwood> tipsilla missed some mythology stuff??
<JimmyG> LOL
<flmutant> heh heh
<DaveSz> yes tipsilla missed just a couple of things
<DaveSz> but found almost everything else i built into the locations, libraries, and puzzles

<Iain> and a ton more!
<Six> flup: Is there anything left to SitC or are we all just mad?
<Iain> tips was amazing
<brooke> omg yeah!
<flmutant> amazing and mad, respectively Smile
<brooke> (to tips amazing, not to stuff left on SitC)
<flmutant> I think you got most of everything on that site, plus more. The biorhythm symbol tracking was mind numbingly cool
<flmutant> but scared my cats
<DaveSz> it was kind of amazing how many kindred spirits are out there for some of rod and my crazier ideas actually Wink
<Iain> just the hidden page with the grid for -- think it was the SLC puzzle (one of the last three)
<flmutant> Smile

Quote:
<Rowan> Next up is Ethernull
<Ethernull> Thanks for an excellent game, I especially enjoyed the narrative of the story and the characters, very nice.
<flmutant> thanks, Ether
<JimmyG> thanks!
<snamo> g_zeus says it was amazing to him that so many people know this esoteric knowledge and find it interesting like he does (( btw. he's restricted by a firewall at work, and that's why he's not here..but got him on the phone))
<snamo> hehe thanks ethernull

<Ethernull> okay, my question: How much time was spent in development pre-launch for story, art assets, websites etc.?
<Iain> he also thanks you for extra hits on his myspace page!!!
<flmutant> 3 days
<JimmyG> Is that really him? How do we know it's not just one of g-zeus's "helpers" like at the mall?
<flmutant> okay, not really
<flmutant> 4 days

<Ethernull> lol
<snamo> i think it's him, he sounds drunk enough
<Iain> yeah, not much time really
<brooke> we had 4 days?!
<brooke> why'd you only give me 2?

<flmutant> Actually, I think I told the ARG-SIG that some crazy person I knew was going to build an ARG in 6 weeks
<snamo> yes we had an insanely small amount of time
<flmutant> and that's more about what we had on this, from initial framework to discovery
<Iain> Stefan Kogler, our creative director, came up with the ethanol crop circle conspiracy -- then Kevin and Rod created the initial storyline.
<flmutant> of course, it gotten rewritten a few times along the way
<snamo> wait actually there was a few weeks of work before contacting gmd, then a 2 day crash with everyone..and then about a week or so to prepare
<DaveSz> we had a last minute fly to orlando meeting in the days before christmas actually
<Ethernull> so it really relied on the writters staying a step ahead of the solvers
<Iain> that was back in December, I believe -- Kev, Rod and I met with the rest of the team in late Dec -- and by Jan 9th, we were launched.
<Ethernull> nice
<flmutant> yeah, Ethernull, although we had a general spine of the story out
<Iain> Brooke had some of the most initial work -- to create all the backstory content for Deb.
<Ethernull> the back dated blog posts
<brooke> merry christmas!
<flmutant> Smile
<Ethernull> flup?
<flmutant> sure
<Iain> but of course none of that mattered, after the first REALLY SMART PEOPLE did a WHOIS
<snamo> the writers are quite the stars of this one. and i haven't slept with any of them. yet. i'm a sucker for good writing.
<Ethernull> were any of the main characters conceived after launch as the result of player speculation or rewriting?
<flmutant> Mom, definitely
<Iain> Shannon
<flmutant> MIB expanded out as well
<brooke> mom!
<JimmyG> And John Gald
<brooke> i love her
<Ethernull> really? Shannon and mom? Well it was nicely done
<Iain> GM and C-E reveal were not part of the original plan
<JimmyG> Mom rules!
<snamo> aw the bewildred john gald
<flmutant> oh, yeah, John!
<brooke> yeah, really, the only characters we had prelaunch were deb, tucker, ben, dr. martinez, and anita
<Iain> hahaha...John Gald -- u should call there next week -- there's a new guy that sits at the desk now...haha
<flmutant> so yeah, quite a bit of nudgery based upon players
<flmutant> LOL
<flmutant> poor guy

<brooke> dude, don't tell them that
<brooke> they'll call Smile

<JimmyG> Yeah, i started writing about WFCP when i actually was writing from a wifi cafe, because i couldn't get online at home for a while
<Iain> don't worry, he's new -- and i have him prepped
<brooke> a new form of corporate hazing. i like it
<Ethernull> lol, well thanks, and well done

Quote:
<Rowan> Next up is rose
<flmutant> Rose Smile
<rose> Hi guys, thanks for the great game. Who were the MiB and why were they after Ben?
<flmutant> McGuffin Smile
<flmutant> I think each of us have our own personal theories
<flmutant> we tried not to write it for any one solution
<flmutant> could be custom agents ... could be OPEC ... could be alien bounty hunters

<rose> so where is Ben now? We lost him around the time that tucker went missing?
<Iain> i think their knocking at my door.....one min!
<flmutant> *points upwards*
<DaveSz> Rodney!
<snamo> WELCOME GZEUS
<Iain> rose, if we told u that, we wouldn't be open for the sequal
* JimmyG pours 40 on ground for ben
<DaveSz> Speaking of Ben Wink
<Iain> hey Rod!!!
<flmutant> Heya Rodney Smile
<JimmyG> Hi Rod!
<JimmyG> Just gotta make that fashionably late grand entrance, huh?

<snamo> i give this two minutes before he's bumped off by some freak thing
<JimmyG> Wink
<g_zeus> that's what I'm good at
<flmutant> flup us, Rose!
<rose> what was up with those icons on ben's site?
<rose> they drove me insane
<flmutant> heh heh
<flmutant> they grouped together chunks of text about particular concepts
<flmutant> and tried to convey the concept in the name
<flmutant> like mntn for opposition
<flmutant> and birth for "early knowledge and new beginnings"
<flmutant> not a puzzle per se, but a way to get you to look at the text beyond just a linear flow

<DaveSz> the site structure was supposed to mimic ben's mental state to some extent
<flmutant> poor Rod
<DaveSz> or maybe mental process more precisely
<flmutant> took his text and put it in a blender before giving it to you all
<g_zeus> you can blame snamo for that
<rose> dave: I am not sure I want to know Ben's mental process that well Wink
<Iain> brian, can u please type "texture"
<flmutant> Texture
<brooke> and be glad it didn't go the way i wanted it to Wink
<flmutant> Smile
<brooke> hahaha
<DaveSz> lol
<snamo> lol

Quote:
<Rowan> ok - next we have 2 questions from uf
<Rowan> but first - g_zeus, do you want to say anything since you didnt get an opening statement?
<Iain> i think he should tell you all about the first week with his myspace acct.
<flmutant> heh heh
<snamo> that's coming
<snamo> let them ask about that one

<g_zeus> i would love to tell all the players how impressed i was that they solved the puzzles and they loved the material of the site
<g_zeus> the puzzles were over my head. and I'm an idiot with the myspace thing
<g_zeus> we took that off the profile weeks before, but damn google and their cached stuff...
<g_zeus> i was sure i had ruined the game with my, shall we say, blatant stupidity?

<Rowan> aww
<flmutant> poor guy Smile
<catherwood> learning curve
<g_zeus> now my high school mullet is world famous
<snamo> but then he bounced back with some great early ben writings
<Iain> hahaha
<snamo> LOL
<DaveSz> we slapped him around for it in PM meetings, dont worry
<DaveSz> Wink

<g_zeus> lol
<flmutant> the mullet was punishment enough
<Iain> yeah, rod's writings blew everyone away
<g_zeus> awww, thanx... (blushing)
<Iain> rod -- ur mullet was my desktop for awhile
<brooke> that was a good mullet
<snamo> like i said, i'll probably be sleeping with him at some point
<flmutant> TMI
<snamo> i'm not too proud

Quote:
<Rowan> Okay - couple of quick questions from people who aren't here
<Rowan> fungol: Were the baby pictures of Tucker, actually of Brad?

<Iain> yes
<flmutant> Poor Brad.
<brooke> awww
<flmutant> Raided his whole life.
<brooke> and i have more that i never got to use
<flmutant> and really his parents
<brooke> he was a great sport!
<Iain> Brad and Chris were very good about gathering their life photos for us
<flmutant> and really his prom date
<Iain> we have a ton more -- maybe we'll post them
<snamo> hehe
<flmutant> Tuckerthon!
<Iain> Brad really just wants a date!
* snamo grins evilly
<Iain> Jim, remember the stalker!
<Iain> wait...shhhh....she might be here.

<g_zeus> what i like about stalkers is there is no mystery: you're real sure that love you
<JimmyG> Heh, oh yeah!
<flmutant> LOL
<Iain> Texture!
<JimmyG> God a PM to tucker from some girl in Australia that was kind of, um, pg-13
<JimmyG> 'Got' a pm, rather

<flmutant> Brad was a big part of the campaign between the photos and painting the circles Smile

Quote:
<Rowan> Next question is from ramon: Please, someone ask if they kind of got away from Brazil because of me. If they didn´t expect to hava a brazilian player
<Iain> totally! Ramon was a freak!
<Iain> j/k

<flmutant> Ramon Smile
<flmutant> We imagined it wouldn't take long to recruit some Brazilians

<DaveSz> i was hoping for brazilian players actually
<flmutant> but ... say it Iain ...
<flmutant> Texture!

<Iain> hahaha
<g_zeus> Ramon rocked... we were glad to get some people from Brazil, since it was the country that had the vision to make ethanol a reality
<DaveSz> to pick up on some of the research etc we did for the locations

Quote:
<Rowan> Thanks! Next up is Scott
<Scott`> hi! Smile cool game Smile
<Scott`> This one's fFor dave, mostly I think: Where do you get ideas fFor your puzzles? Is there a process or method? Do you work fFrom answer to solution, solution to answer...?
<DaveSz> hmm good question scott
<DaveSz> the puzzles for this game came primarily out of the research i did to come up with the locations for the nine crop symbols

<flmutant> Sad
<Iain> i remember dave reading a crop circle book when we were in orlando
<DaveSz> while i was researching and picking those locations the concepts for most of the puzzles came to me, based on the myths, local history etc i was uncovering
<DaveSz> by concepts i mean the methods the puzzles used
<DaveSz> then the actual solutions and encryptions were based on the library books i choose

<Scott`> so you tend to pick up a topic and look fFor a way to get obfuscated information out of that topic?
<DaveSz> i had to pick ones available at certain libraries where players could get them and then build them into the puzzles
<DaveSz> yes, a lot of times when i make puzzles i start with the general idea and then figure out how to put the info that needs to be there in

<JimmyG> Don't you mean obfFuscated?
<DaveSz> did that answer your question?
<Scott`> yes thank you Smile
<JimmyG> np
<JimmyG> Wink

<DaveSz> you're welcome

Quote:
<Rowan> Ciaran is up next with a question a lot of ppl want answered
<Ciaran> Hi. Smile
<JimmyG> oh, dave, sorry
<Ciaran> We're all dying to know over in #tinfoilposse ... but where *is* the mural that Ben was standing in front of in that photo on the Tio de Misterio site?
<snamo> rod..
<flmutant> Iain?
<Iain> go Rod!
<g_zeus> Trust me, meet this cat in person and you'll realize how meta he is. I think Dave works those puzzles out as one moment: solution and puzzle
<g_zeus> the mural was in Ludington, MI
<flmutant> ta da!
<snamo> and that was rods grandfater
<snamo> Razz

<flmutant> notice how many of the approaches you'd normally think of as grassroots are at also at play here
<Ciaran> snamo: Hehe. I was going to ask that for a flup.
<snamo> my apologies
<flmutant> grassroot games and corporate games are really always that different Smile
<flmutant> aren't

<Ciaran> snamo: No worries, you answered it. Very Happy
<flmutant> aren't really
<JimmyG> No, too late, you already said they ARE that different.

Quote:
<BlueKindo> Tucker, Deb and Mom are wonderfully likable characters. Have you given any thought to keeping Tucker and Deb alive...maybe a Blogger site with a once-a-month updates? You know, just in case a meteor lands in Tuck's farm field or something? Smile
<flmutant> heh heh
<flmutant> so you don't mind that Ben is gone, eh?
<flmutant> As long as Mom survives?

<brooke> mom rocks!
<BlueKindo> seemed like a natural passing
<JimmyG> We thought about killing mom off for like a millisecond, but there would've been riots
<g_zeus> he didn't die...he left. wink wink
<flmutant> there can always be a sequal, right?
<brooke> well, deb has to move on and figure out this thing called a gut, first
<brooke> instincts are scary things, ya know

<BlueKindo> yours seem fine tuned
<JimmyG> If everybody here buys a flexfuel vehicle and claps real hard, maybe there'll be a sequel!
<DaveSz> this is a good time to echo the players' sentiments - jim, brooke, and rod all did amazing jobs writing their characters
<brooke> and mom, well, she has to finish up her kitchen
<g_zeus> lol jim!
<JimmyG> Sorry, it's the ethanol talking
<brooke> heh
<brooke> ha!

<BlueKindo> Tell Christine my wife does the bunny face...that's where it came from. Thanks for the great game all...my first.
<flmutant> thanks, Blue Smile
<brooke> thank you!
<snamo> i still feel that brookes "about" page was brilliant and classic
<JimmyG> LOL, that's awesome, BK
<Iain> thanks for the laughs blue!
<g_zeus> thanx Kindo!
<BlueKindo> glad I could return a llittle entertainment value
<JimmyG> Yeah, your latest avatar was brilliant
<BlueKindo> lol
<brooke> you really did Smile

Quote:
<Rowan> Okay, we have a couple of more questions, then we'll open up the room
<Shaftoe> First of all, thanks for a great game, loss of sleep, and great puzzles. (And a note in SLC!)
<Rowan> Go ahead Shaftoe
<flmutant> woot!
<Shaftoe> What was up with "the ye shave it.jpg" aka part02.jpg, was it just to point us to Romania?
<Shaftoe> flup: Was Romania the missing warrior class from the Seattle note?
<DaveSz> you're welcome shaftoe, thanks for playing along
<DaveSz> romania was chosen because of the ethanol connection and also because of the ancient egypt and mythology tie-ins to that particular town
<DaveSz> and because it fell along the 109 degree angle line made by the rest of the symbol
<DaveSz> im not sure why the image was originally called "eyeshaveit" though. kevin?
<snamo> could've been. or it could have been gremlins.
<snamo> not sure either dave lol
<snamo> i read that wrong

<flmutant> heh heh
<flmutant> YE SHALL SHAVE IT!

<g_zeus> I shave it?
<snamo> lol
<DaveSz> believe me, the puzzle creation process was interesting in this game due to many hands being involved
* Shaftoe puzzled and puzzled and suggested crazy things
<Iain> actually I think Justice did a lot of the naming
<snamo> shaving...
<flmutant> Smile
<Iain> already shaved
<g_zeus> i have a beard, basically, my mid-life facial mullet

<Rowan> Okay, we have 3 more questions and then you guys can talk again Smile
<Rowan> Quick one from Tien_Le: Was Shannon a plant by "Them"?

<flmutant> Apparantly! Or perhaps she was recruited by Them.
<Iain> shannon loved Tucker (or did she)
<flmutant> Clearly, she was a grey under that skin, or a lizard man or something.
<snamo> ah..that picture thread...so great
<JimmyG> Yeah, those photoshopped pix were amazing!

Quote:
<Rowan> From Dr. Confoundo & catherwood: Who did they use to plant the letters around the country? And what arragements were made for keeping the books from being checked out?
<brooke> yeah, she was recruited by them, i think
<snamo> but i have to agree with sneakpriapus, that sid pic was the winner
<flmutant> ah, a great one
<flmutant> we recruited people as we could to plant them
<flmutant> you can imagine the phone calls
<Iain> yeah, that pic thread was great --- I asked Lynnette to be Shannon -- hours before the pic -- and then you all did that to her.
<Iain> she's since been in a cave!
<flmutant> "hey, can you do a big favor for me?"
<brooke> the poor girl!
<flmutant> "Can you run down to the library and stick a paper I fedex you in a particular book?"
<DaveSz> and basically i used the online catalog systems to choose books and make sure they were available when we needed them
<brooke> i felt bad doing that to her
<JimmyG> "And can you take this paper bag to Juarez, Mexico for me? No, don't open it."
<brooke> though you guys, you rocked
<catherwood> and the volunteer had to just watch the shelves?
<flmutant> nope, they were left to the winds of chance
<DaveSz> we only placed them a day or so before they were found in most cases
<flmutant> it's not like we stuck them in the copy of "The Davinci Code" ")
<catherwood> lucky us Smile
<snamo> lol brian
<DaveSz> i researched check out statistics actually cath
<Iain> wasn't that the next drop
<JimmyG> Yeah, the call that the library note had been placed was the green light to release the puzzle
<snamo> yea Sea Maps of the Ancient Sea Kings creaaaaked open
<DaveSz> and chose books that tended to "sit" on the shelves
<Iain> kev, i and stefan dropped the Maps of the Ancient Sea Kings -- we felt like rebels....it was pretty funny.
<g_zeus> lol
<snamo> the best was taking the picture of it with iains cell phone --- "CHHHHAAA CHIIIINKKK"
<snamo> we about peed ourselves
<flmutant> That's because you were over-textured at the time.
<Rowan> you guys need to get out more often
<Iain> yeah, it was sooo loud -- and there was all these people there, and it was quiet
<DaveSz> wait til people start finding the ones we planted and didnt use
<Iain> it was SuperBowl week, and as u can imagine, it was CRAZIE downtown -- we got there, and the library was closed, so we decided to hang out for a bit

Quote:
<Rowan> Last question. This one was again asked by Dr. Confoundo, but there is also a whole thread wanting to know about it on uf: Did this game progress as it was supposed to, or did it end up getting truncated for reasons out of the control of the PMs?
<snamo> well originally...
<JimmyG> Everything worked EXACTLY as planned.
<flmutant> Yup!
<JimmyG> EXACTLY
<snamo> hehe
<flmutant> We even went a week longer!
<g_zeus> totally. know it.
<Iain> well, honestly, the script changed a few times -- but overall, the story went as planned.
<flmutant> But my favorite unexpected detail was Tucker's roadtrip Smile
<flmutant> And Brooke filling in on writing Tucker for a week with no one noticing Smile

<brooke> that was scary intimidating
<flmutant> Sometimes you have to adapt to situations.
<brooke> i'm a huge fan of jim's and figured i'd be busted in a minute
<g_zeus> sorta, our original idea was to have the manifesto and the response printed in USA today so it would set in break rooms all over america and people would be like "what is this???"
<snamo> bwaaaaaah. 8> g_zeus
<JimmyG> thx, brooke Smile
<Iain> yeah, the ending was the most re-discussed idea for awhile -- we almost did flash-mobs!
<g_zeus> brooke did a great job filling in for Tuck... they had the "hero" jobs with the writing
<JimmyG> At one point we discussed having a funeral for Ben, with a Ben shaped cake, like in that old Tom Petty video
<JimmyG> I'm still not sure if Brian was kidding or not
<flmutant> OMG! The Flash Mobs!
<flmutant> Dave had this idea to do a corn ritual involving antelope blood.

<Iain> actually, if you DIEHARDS wanna do it, flash mobs for the response to the ancients!!! how about freeze tag wearing green and yellow to separate teams!!!!
<brooke> which, scary enough, when i saw the church you guys chose for the funeral - it's like a mile from my house Wink
<flmutant> GM was a little nervous about the idea.
<brooke> i thought you guys were spying on me or something
<JimmyG> "GM: We put the "fun" back in "funeral!"
<DaveSz> dont forgte the peyote brian, blood and peyote
<brooke> flipping through some 'random' pdf file from iain and i see my street
<brooke> that was scary

<flmutant> LOL
<g_zeus> lol

Quote:
<Rowan> Okay, I would like to take this time to thank all of the PMs, the mods and the players for the game and for this great chat.
<flmutant> thanks for hosting it, ARGN and Unfiction!
<JimmyG> Yeah, thanks to all you guys!
<Iain> actually, since it's pretty open now, we were gonna try to stage a funeral for Ben! Wonder how many of you would've showed up!
<Rowan> Do the PMs have any last thoughts they would like to get out before the room is opened up to the masses?
<g_zeus> love to all!
<brooke> yeah, thanks mods for doing this and for all you guys for coming!
<flmutant> looking forward to meta discussions
<snamo> yes thank you much
<flmutant> and we'll see you all in Chicago too Smile
<DaveSz> yes thank you to the mods and the players
<snamo> aaahhh chicago and the texturing
<Iain> Thanks Rowan for moderating this --- and thanks to all the moderators in the WIBS forums!
<JimmyG> glug
<g_zeus> ditto with cheese
<DaveSz> and the GM and the guys at CAmpbell -Ewald too
<flmutant> we'll retexture the whole city, Kevin.
<Iain> yest CHI-TOWN!
<JimmyG> glug glug
<snamo> you better join us this time brian..we textured all over orlando
<Iain> brian, one last "Texture" please!
<g_zeus> does it count if i say texture?
<flmutant> Texture?
<Rowan> And on that note - the room is now open.

Color Legend:
brooke, bold red
DaveSz, bold green
flmutant, bold blue
g_zeus, bold darkred
Iain, bold darkblue
snamo, bold olive
JimmyG, bold
Rowan, red

Does anyone have a transcript of the chat after the room was opened back up to chat and the PMs were still around? I had to leave early and I didn't log the chat room.

I do Rose. If no one else posts it before I get home tonight I'll add it here later.

Yeah, Unofficial, Off the Record... when did a journalist ever not leak a story?

Well, Rose, I guess I wasn't there as long after the chat as I thought I was... I'm not going to make mine all purty like Rowan did...

[22:24] <catherwood> again, i think the set up for the "game" made me forget all my ARGing training -- i wasn't thinking "where is the next site/page?"

[22:25] <Iain> cather -- i will say, i lurked the chat for a long time -- and i laughed when i heard you say "i don't care about the puzzles anymore, i'm into the story"
[22:25] <mrazfan> ...in the silence, since I missed most of the chat due to a dinner - I must take this opportunity to thank ALL of you for a most enjoyable experience :--)
