i'm the same, have similar answers (with maybe a couple of variants depending on whether sente spoke first or not), but keep getting the wrong solution reply.

perhaps this card is more tricky than we thought?

still no successful solves at time of post. no reply to email query either. does anyone have Von's clue? maybe that'd help...

As of five minutes ago, there is still a problem with the database, (MC sent me an email telling me that my solution was right, so I'm trying it every eight hours or so.) I've tried a second valid set of data, and that also comes up as incorrect, although it's a less realistic solution Smile

fustrating... esp. since i was hoping for top ten solve on this one. i'm busy tomorrow, so can't be sitting around at the computer refreshing every 1/2 hour.

do MC kept track of perviously entered answers? since i have a couple of variants the answer could be, i'm now lost as to which i the correct answer, since they've all been marked as wrong.

Aww nuts! Locked out now and no idea which of my variants may be right. Not going to make top 10 here again though I reckon I solved this on Saturday, along with a few other people of course!

doublecross,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
can you confirm whether Sente spoke at the first event as I don't want to go through all the variations again?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You don't actually give the order of the events, but yes, Sente spoke at the first one in the solution I entered.

Since they've now fixed the card, I can point out that Chimera's solution is now accepting. If it interests anyone, I believe that it's possible to frob things a bit to get a second solution (although it's not as good.) as follows.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

actual solution
> 1. Sedgewick/Carrick/Cocktails/40/Sente
> 2. Mansoor/Kermeen/Awards/30/Robert
> 3. Ekeba/Museum/ArtExhibition/60/Aiko
> 4. Adamek/Outdoors/Fireworks/20/Anna
> 5. Wildwood/NoiBallroom/Dancing/80/Camryn

possible solution?
> 1. Ekeba/Museum/Cocktails/60/Aiko
> 2. Mansoor/Kermeen/Awards/30/Robert
> 3. Sedgewick/Carrick/ArtExhibition/40/Sente
> 4. Adamek/Outdoors/Fireworks/20/Anna
> 5. Wildwood/NoiBallroom/Dancing/80/Camryn

As you can see, this still conforms to all the conditions on the card, unless you take "welcomming words" to mean strictly "first event" (doing so makes the card rather easier to solve.) - also, this puts cocktails in the museum, and the art exhibition in the Carrick Hall, which is, well, a bit silly. I'm going to assume the second confirms as wrong, but I didn't check it.

And if someone wants to see the work grid I used and results, I won't include it inline because it's spoilerish, but will give the link.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In hindsight, I wonder if it would have been less (or more) work to include not just the duration of the events, but the position too. I ended up writing possible position numbers in the margins and eventually made several connections as they were narrowed down.

Is this purely a card for puzzle purposes or can we glean anything from it about the theft of the cube?

Possible dodgy goings on from Prof. Adamek, Anna Heath and Robert Zhi-Hui?

I made a mistake on the solve of this card - The wording of one of the statements seems wrong. I've written to Mind Candy to ask for the correct interpretation, but from what I can tell:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"6. Prof. Adamek left during the event in the Noi Ballroom."

The accepted solution says that he was not in the ballroom. This must mean that he left after his event ended, during the time the next one happened. This would be the only interpretation that makes sense in relation to another statement:

"13. Anna Heath gave a quick few words for the 20-minute event, then hurried home before the dancing."

Seeing as Anna Heath was sponsored by Prof. Adamek, and the dancing happened in the ballroom, they are talking about the same event. Thing is, because no other clues point out the sponsor of the 4th event being Adamek, there is no logical error apparent on the grid (i.e. one row or column having more or less than one positive answer), all it does is swap the 4th and 5th event sponsors. I think the question needs disambiguating, to say that Prof. Adamek attended his own event, then left while the Ballroom event was just starting. Also I think it would help to state that each numbered event happened after the previous numbered event.

If I say something that has been spoilered, I apologize because I have not yet solved the card and I love these kinds of puzzles. I will accept a trout for it though.

Here's a thought (spoilered because it may give an unintentional clue to someone who has not finished yet):

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There are six departments in the Academy (Special Projects -> CRT does not count because they were not formed until after the cube went missing), but only five events. Why did Astrid Lindstrom (Math & Logic Senior Fellow) not sponsor any events (all the others have their names tied to the events (Hunan Mansoor implicitly, the rest explicitly))? Does this raise suspicions about Janna Gold and Sekani Medemboshi, the M&L adjunct senior fellows? Recall that http://perplexcitywiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Leaked_emails#.28blank_subject.29_Super_Sneaky.21 tells us that someone who is on the Adjunct Senior Fellows Council is working with V.

[OOG]
Spoiler for those who read the Wheel of Time series and have not read through book six (Lord of Chaos) to follow:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Okay, for those that have not read the books but are curious what I'm talking about, super-fast reduction (those that have read the books PLEASE don't get on my case about the following summary ... I'm trying to compress the whole of the plot down to make it sensible to those not in the know). We have this tower of women who can cast spells, officially split across 7 colors where each color represents the general disposition of the group. One of the colors is White, where members of that group follow logic rigorously (obsessively?).

Okay, one of the powerful movers and shakers in the White is Alviarin Freidhen. Problem is she's also working with the Evil One (traitor). She's the head of the 8th group, the Black Ajah (which is comprised of all the Evil One's members who can cast spells ... the existence of the Black is not acknowledged by ANY members of the Tower, good or bad). One question in my mind (with regards to WoT) is why Alviarin went over to the Evil side? As a white, she had to see some logical reason to do so.
[/OOG]

Tying this back to PXC, could the Third Power have gotten either Lindstrom, Gold, or Medemboshi to join them based on a logically constructed argument as to why the Academy should not have the cube? That it is dangerous, and should be kept under lock and key instead of displayed out in the open? (bottom of http://www.perplexcityacademy.com/visitors2.html where it talks about the ultimate sacrifice of Hesketh Zeller)

Definitely can't see it on my card.
Anyone else got the same problem?

Any chance of a high res scan of that bit of the card?
