[PS3] Launch Date Announced From here
Quote:
- GLOBAL RELEASE NOVEMBER 11th
- 60GB HDD 2.5" with pre-installed Linux OS will be standard (included? we don't know 100%, but it is "required") and is upgradeable
- Dev kit specs fix as of today
- Final PS3 development kits will be sent to developers in June
- 10.000.000 BD-ROMS manufacturing capability per month @ cost around same as 2-layer DVD
- Every PS3 game will be on a Blu Ray Disc, in an attempt to prevent piracy
- Price will not be less than 50.000YEN (~$425USD) [Note that Japanese prices are usually higher. SPECULATION is that it will be $349-$449 USD]
- PS3 will have HDMI support from launch
- Sony plans to produce 1 million PS3s a month; 6 million PS3s for FY2006 (by the end of March 07)
- "basic" online service free, no details yet (could be XBLS for PS3)
- Full backwards compatibility from day 1; hi-res and texture filtering for all titles (akin to what MS does to the few BC titles on 360)
- The online service will be working off of GameSpy technology (co-development with SOE)
Anyone else gonna be getting a PS3 at launch? I hopefully will be, its sounding really good.

Well, if it's anything like the XBox 360, then the first release will be somewhat buggy. I think I'll take a pass on getting a console at launch and wait until after XMas when it's dropped in price. Or I may just get a 360 when the PS3 is launched 'cause I'm sure it'll be a heckuva lot cheaper by then.

I dunno, like the xbox 360, it just doesn't appeal to me very much.
My money's still going to the Revolution, unless something drastic happens on that front.

360 not appealing to you? Blasphemy!
As for getting a PS3, I'll get it when the price drops in a few years and the online service stabilizes.

I'm waiting for them to fail at getting it out by that time.

and lets not forget the PSP launch, I think the only one they had right first time was PSX
as for me, I'll be getting a Revolution at launch, which now looks like it will be released before PS3

Not trying to start anything here but basing this on content and current situation with the counsels. Xbox 360>PS3

Anything like the 360 launch? Dude, the PS2 was the worst launch in history and all those original machines are long broken down by now. My launch Xbox still works perfectly. PS3 is going to be horribly overpriced and over-fucking-rated.

Ehh, I'm waiting for official confirmation, but even then... I won't be getting it. I see no reason to get it or the revolution.

I hope to purchase them all. If they play the "material shortage" trick again, I will do the only thing a self respecting gamer would do.
Stand in line like a good, obedient monkey.
Then smuggle a pipebomb into Sony disguised as an RMA.
