Well day 1 puzzle sure was easy enough. At this rate I've got one of those cryptexes in the bag!
The progress tracker is pretty cool, and very telling too... Looks like there are 4 puzzles in each of these categories:
Symbol
Restoration
Curator
Chess
Geography
Observation
[EDIT]
Also, finally a nice page listing the prizes: http://flash.sonypictures.com/movies/davincicodequest/us/prizing/

I cant get it to accept my answer for the symbol on Langdon's face at the end of the first puzzle.. Any suggestions?
Pyramid, all-seeing eye, etc do not seem to be working...

If I recall my tax laws correctly, you have to pay tax on the total value of the prizes as if you made that much as income in the last year... so I'm not too certain winning it would be entirely awesome.
A total prize worth $128,000 would cost over $30,000 in taxes... and anyone whose only way of getting these things is to win a contest could not afford to win the contest in the first place.

You need to spend some time on the movie's flash site (as it says), all the symbol names can be found there (along with several other things).

You don't pay tax on prize wins. Which is why people don't pay tax when they win the lottery.

Here in the states prizes and lottery winnings are considered income and are therefore taxable.

Oh my! I stand correct.
Well, in the UK you don't pay taxes for prize wins...

Of course, if you are living in the UK, the $97,000 part of the prize is no longer $97,000 (since the flight overseas in 1st class is a LOT of money and unneeded if you are already overseas).

So, we all got the same first puzzle (I think).
Will we also share the remaining
23
29?
Or will we each see different puzzles from the 13,000 available?

If you need a hint.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
after you play a game of soduku follow directions. Look at the page carefully and don't even try to click on the toolbar above. Don't worry it took me a few seconds to say duh there it is.

The part where you go to randomhouse and the bank website and emails and such are a different game. It has been talked about on this website, about a year ago I believe. It doesn't have anything to do with the Google Quest. Just thought that should be made clear.

Hey everyone, new poster here. I stated a sub-wiki entry for this contest, and I wrote up the 1st day's puzzle.

or post HERE.
Although the puzzle concept is the same for all of us, we probably did NOT all get the exact same puzzle. Go back, it will let you do the puzzle again but you will most likely get a different starting configuration. (I did it twice, as an experiment. No extra solve credit.) So at least on this puzzle we can share solve methodology but not the actual solve.
