Aha, and that leads me to counter with the Men of Gilead maneuver, first used by Roland Deschain in the Universal Match held at the Dark Tower - thus breaking your MC in five with the hard calibers found at:

ARSENAL!

You feel the desperation radiating off that move...

Pardon if I get a tad oblique, but I'll save this from going down a one-way street and use the good ol' Fortescue Gambit. 1878 Version, natch; what would the 1964 edit do me?

And, we're off to... Ealing Common.

Of course, that does incur a penalty for using a Roundabout Roland in a twist-check match, so it's MC in 2 at this point.

But at least it's more interesting now. Twisted Evil

It appears you've forgotten about Flynn's Black Friars Backlash:

Flynn wrote:
"You're all very stupid, and don't know anything at all" - to paraphrase the Abbot. This, of course, does two things. The Abbot has spoken, therefore MC in 2, 3, or even 4 is no longer possible.

Thus, you forfeit your next turn for declaring an illegal move, and I play the Croup-Vandemar Takeover Bid and move to:

Knightsbridge!

Which gives me MC in one.

How could I have been so blind?! Shocked

If only Backlash wasn't a limited duration rule, considering that the Abbot was a hack and a womanizer.

An for invoking a false invocation, I therefore invoke the classic Bankham Boxer rule.

Of course, in acceptance of my penalty, I concede your MC in 1, but as boxers are also called "plus fours", and the accepted penatly in another three, you now have MC in 8.

I may be out of practice, but that's no reason to get cocky. Twisted Evil

Ooooh, I had forgotten we were playing by the conventions of the W.M.C.C. (World Mornington Crescent Commission) 1974 rulebook.

Had we been playing by the '75 rules, that wouldn't have applied unless the south-east sector was under heavy topspin and near-total stagnation.

I accept the penalty of MC in eight.

Whose move is it now?

I think I'm up next, and having reached the limit (I think) of the Gaiman Variations on the rules I'm going to go a bit conventional with this one.

I'd like to bring in the 1943 Churchill Pass, confirmed as valid by the 1951 committee, and this gives me a number of options. I choose...

Macavity, I think you're forgetting the very rule that this forum and website is named after.

Unfiction was the name of a game played way back in the 1980's where the players played for so long they didnt think it could possibly be considered true. They therefore invented the rule to end the game there and then...provided that it is a Bank Holiday Monday, and there are at least four players playing with Arsenal being a stationht at has recently been played and....There has already been an MC in 2 declared more than once..then a move straight to MC is permitted...

I conclude that Chris has the game

EDIT:I think the bfc remark was just an expression of chris' happenis.

Ah, right, I had forgot that.

Shall we play another?

Damn.... I believe Mac_Monkey is reading the rules correctly, and Chris has it. A cunning move, which shows an understanding of the rules that is unparalleled in my experience.

I propose a rematch, to start in a few days time - and Chris has the honour, at least according to the '33 "Winner stays on" rule.

Good game played by all, well done. Chris' lightning quick play to end the game was a masterstroke, so special congratulations to him.

Of course the only way to celebrate a win like that is to play another game, so her we go again...

Let's kick off with the home of Science and Dinosaurs - HIGH STREET KENSINGTON!

If you will permit a new player, I propose a move not used since 1982's famous "Bratislava" series - and I think we all know how that ended (and anyone playing under the mistaken belief that I'm not watching out for a classic "Vatican Gambit (replied)" in return will find themselves disappointed).
