[ivy set] #097 419 Scam

Signed by Sente, and with a 5 diamonds playing card symbol and lettery parts.

The card is in the form of a computer screen with an email window open and the text reads:

Quote:
From: Samson Deevicdo <samson.deevicdo@perplexcitybankingcorporation.com>
Date: Tuesday, 10 February 2005 11:52:47
To: undisclosed recipients
Subject: STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS PROPOSAL

PLEASE ALLOW THE INTRODUCE OF MYSELF. I AM DR. SAMSON DEEVICDO THE SEVENTH SON OF THE LATE CANTHI DEEVICDO. IT IS BY BLOODLINE THAT OUR RELATION TO THE HONOURABL SENTE OF THE PERPLEX CITY ACADEMY IS 100% ASSURED.

I AM IN THE EMPLOY OF THE WELL KNOWN FINANCE INSTITUTION OF PCBC (PERPLEX CITY BANKING CORPORATION). UPON THE TRAGIC DEATH OF MY FATHER WE HAVE UNCOVERED A DEPOSIT ACCOUNT CONTAINING THE SUM OF $40,000,000 (FORTY MILLION US DOLLARS). FOR SAFE KEEPING THE FUNDS ARE UNDER THE PROTECTION BY A TEN-DIGIT SECURITY CODE.

I REQUIRE URGENT AND SECRET ASSISTANCE OUTSIDE THE CONFINES OF PERPLEX CITY TO SOLVE THE CODE AND PERFORM A TRANSFER OF THIS MONEY.

HAVING GOTTEN YOUR PARTICULARS FROM MY FATHER'S LIBRARY, I HAVE NO DOUBT TO YOUR CAPACITY, GOODWILL AND PUZZLE SOLVING APTITUDE TO HELP US IN CRACKING THIS MOST ENIGMATIC OF CODES.

LET IT BE ASSURED THAT WE WILL BE HAPPY TO FURNISH YOU WITH A SIZABLE PERCENTAGE OF THE FUNDS ONCE THIS TRANSACTION HAS BEEN RESOLVED.

MY FATHER WAS A GREAT FAN OF LITERATURE AND IT IS OUR FIRM BELIEF THAT HE DREW THE INSPIRATION FOR THE SECURITY CODE FROM A POPULAR BOOK FROM YOUR WORLD.

THE ONLY CLUE TO THE BOOK IN QUESTION WOULD TRANSPIRE TO BE A NOTE LEFT WITHIN HIS BANKING FILES: 0552149519. I HAVE ALREADY TRIED INPUTTING THIS CODE AT THE BANK WITHOUT SUCCESS.

SO IT IS TO YOU I NOW TURN FOR ASSISTANCE. WITH THE INFORMATION FURNISHED CAN YOU DEDUCE THE TEN-DIGIT CODE I SEEK?

I AM IN ANTICIPATION OF YOUR FULLEST CO-OPERATION AND UNRESERVED CONFIDENTIALITY IN THIS MOST EXCITING YET SENSITIVE OF MATTERS.

YOURS WARMLY

THE REVEREND DR. SAMSON DEEVICDO

The entire email is written in capitals, and I have transcribed it exactly, grammatical errors and all.

The map back reads:

Quote:
Magine Park

Magine Park was formally established in 60 AC in response to concerns about its overuse as a common. In comparison to Polygon Park, Magine Park had traditionally been lightly maintained to preserve a 'wilder' feel, but in recent years development has increased. The most notable addition to the park is the Mimisan Maze which opened in 259 and contains over 15 km of walkways, tunnels, ladders and slides.

The digits in the email are
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the ISBN for The Da Vinci Code, but I am unsure how to get a 10-digit code from that.

Then the answer is probably:

The Fibonacci series 1123581321

Canthi Deevicdo is also an anagram of
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Da Vinci Code

Does this mean that we can now access the internal pages of the PCBC site?

if the title of this card is SCAM should we really be helping the good doctor get his hands on his father's money? if indeed it is his father!

419 Scam refers to the Nigerian scam of getting money from people in order to gain access to large sums of money (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance_fee_fraud).

The link to the card is the fact that the puzzle is in the form of an email claiming to be able access large sums of money.

Glitterbug, I've never read it either. I found that Wikipedia was very helpful in pointing me in the right direction!

There also seem to be several online copies of the book in question. All breaking copyright, I'm sure, but it made searching for the answer a lot easier.

Hey there

First post since the intro thread, so be gentle please!

I've just got around to this card, but noticed no-one has appeared to have mentioned how some of the letters in the From, To, CC, Subject area appear to be randomly bolded? It may be a print error on just my card, but it seems teh following letters stand out.

ams
uesd
isclo
ST

Sorry if this has been mentioned. I stand proud awaiting a fish-slap.

Mark
