Graffle movie? Someone help. This is freaking me out.

First time poster here, but my friend Jeff and I were just browsing the carelessly files on netninja, and I was going to touch up the graffle picture so he could see the face in the background. As I was dragging it, it suddenly burst into a short movie file, from a handheld camera, which was focusing on something tan, round, and unrecognizable for the maybe two seconds it was onscreen. Upon checking my temporary internet files, there is no log of any such movie. Just the picture. Anyone else had a similar experiance?

This is really scaring the crap out of me... How could 10k worth of Jpeg load a movie, just because I tried to drag the graffle picture into my start menu?

Thanks,

Dillon and Jeff.

I believe what you saw was this: http://netninja.com/scrapbook/Metacortex/carelessly/carelessly.mic.swf

Am I right?

You nearly eased my mind, friend. Thank you.

But, alas, the file we saw was nearly fullscreen. Low quality. It featured a large, roundish tan thing that moved around because of an unsteady, handheld camera, and the whole clip was super, super brief.

My heart's in my throat.

Where's my hacker in shining armor who'll tell me it's all ok so I can sleep tonight?

Sorry to keep throwing URLs at you, but: http://netninja.com/scrapbook/Metacortex/unjust/unjust.mic.swf

Is it possible you saw the first couple seconds of this?

Damn it, not it either.

Alright, now that I'm pretty sure I'm onto SOMETHING, let me go into everything I can about this video.

I saw something which I've pretty much deduced to taking place within a home of some sort. The background seemed artificially lit, and had a dark brown background (Perhaps shag carpeting, perhaps wood furnishing). Some cheesy bassy music played abruptly and loudly, and I saw what appeared to be a mass of tan cloth front and center. The video was obviously focusing on this. If you've ever seen something incredibly disturbing first-hand, then you know there's a five to ten second ammount of time in which you just cannot comprehend what's going on, because you won't allow yourself to. Both Jeff and I experianced this feeling. Eitehr

A.) Because our minds were trying to catch up with the sudden video

or, the scary one

B.) Because something REALLY screwed up was going on in that video.

The crackling music and low quality full screen cut out abruptly, and I was redirected to a file in my temporary internet folder. I was unable to locate the movie in this folder, suggesting it may have deleted itself. I was unable to return to it with my back button.

I'm really on edge right now. Any suggestions?

Drugs are bad mmmkay.

Dude if that happened it was a freak accident with your computer or you got a trojan virus.

No way graffle is a video file.

There's this video that if you watch it, someone calls you up and says, "You're gonna die in 7 days."

Sorry I couldn't resist.

Maybe if you told us which file this happened to, we could be of more help.

it was carelessly.graffle

Jeff can testify for me. I'll get us both on IRC if you like.

The only thing I can think of was something ceaser hid in one of the files... Some sort of Java prompt or SOMETHING that redirected me to a file, then redirected me out of it, then deleted every single trace of itself.

Far-fetched, I realize, but the fact the background for this video wasn't entirely different from that first one you guys showed me, it makes me feel sure that this was part of it all...

Plus, we are dealing with a "hacker" here, right? Makes sense he'd be doing crazy hacker stuff.

Additionally, I wiped my harddrive probably four days ago, and that was THE FIRST movie clip accessed on my recently fresh system.

What the hell is going on here?

Perhaps you were not looking at the carelessly.* files, but the unjust.* files? http://netninja.com/scrapbook/Metacortex/unjust/

If that isn't the case, I would like to know what brand of crack you are smoking, and where I can get my hands on some. Wink

yeah for real

not that i'm one to doubt ANYTHING in this ARG, but i just tried renaming carelessly.graffle.jpg to .mov, .avi, .swf, .mpg, .mpeg, .asf, .asx, .wmv, .exe, and .fla, and none of them open, in exception of .mov, since i use Media Player Classic, it loaded it and played, but it was basically the .jpg; it didn't do anything but stay there, static.

*laughs*

I sort of wish I WAS on crack...

But alas, I was looking at the fire-breathing picture when it happened. I'm looking for some sort of reasonable explaination, which all of these have been so far, but are soonthereafter cancelled out by some factor or another...

I haven't been able to get the video to go again, so now I'm just pissed off. Maybe I should change my screen name...

It did something WHILE you were dragging it. Dragging the icon across your desktop, i'm assuming? Chances are, you crossed paths with something else that triggered a movie, not that file itself.

Redirected how? That folder opened on your desktop, or just the "Save file" dialog box? Again, I think it has something to do with whatever applications you had open at the time. That, and you probably need to clean your mouse.

Similar Weird "Glitch" Occured At heismissing.info

For what it's worth:

I haven't reported this to the forum since I couldn't repeat it, but having read your post am starting to wonder about the following incident.

About a week ago I was checking all of the "game web sites" one after another for updates quickly and when I clicked on my HeIsMissing.info bookmark the regular page loaded then my default MP3 player (Quicktime) launched and a picture of someone that looked like Phillip Gairden (see Metadex Bio Photo) was shown on the screen. There was no audio. I closed Quicktime and never got this to happen again after trying several times?

That's like me when this first started, freaking out when a pay phone rang as I walked by. Or, going to Pet Adoption fair, and asking the name of the dog.... it was Laika, of course.

That's when I decided to lay off the game a bit.
