one more thing about this card.... did the maker of this card not go to school? does he not realise that colourblindness is one of the things that people HAVE to learn about at school? and WHY women are less likely to have colourblindness! sheesh!

I love reading about colorblindness as it's something I've been affected by all my life. I wonder if there are any other players out there who can't read the Ishihara card, either.

Well I was encouraging my friends to start PXC, by handing out lots of my swaps, and one of them came back to me a bit later and said
"I don't get this card, there is no number...."
I explained and.....

It turns out he's colourblind and didn't know it, he'd never had a test.
He only found out thanks to Perplex City!!! Shocked
crazy eh?

What on earth does the fact that 'people have to learn about colourblindness at school' have to do with anything:?:

It's an easy card, it has an easy answer
(unless you're colourblind - see above post)
plus it contains some interesting facts, I'm sure the 'card maker' went to school.

Oh and the 'women thing' did you not do that in Biology? Wink

But the point is not everyone is as clever and knowledgeable as you,
not everyone has learnt it at school,
and for those who don't know it may be interesting to find out.

So for the sake of anyone who doesn't understand,
please post your explanation. I for one would be interested.

ok so everyone has 46 chromosones (23 identical pairs)
on the 23rd pair (the sex cells) there is either one of 2 combinations - X Y for male or X X for female.

Colourblindness (now known c for colourblindness and C for normal sight) is something which is on some of the chromosomes and in the dna of a person. A Cc combination means a person does not have colourblindness but is a carrier and a CC combination means perfect sight and cc is colourblindness.

ARe you with me now?

Right so heres the bit that is weird. Colourblindness is only carried on an X chromosome... so a male has one and a female has 2. this means men are more likely to be colourblind.

...Or just see #178 - Sex Linked. (Really, couldn't they have done something more exotic, like phenylketonuria? Meh.)

Bad card

I think it's really great that they included a card that couldn't be solved by people afflicted by colour blindness.

I think maybe they should have a live event where there are points available at the top of a flight of stairs, so that people affected by paraplegia can't get them...

Hell, why stop at physical disabilities? They could have us all send off for five free points of we can prove we're not autistic, or even dock points from people who are discovered to have dyslexia?

I think it's equally marvellous that we have message boards where imbeciles can over-react massively and pointlessly, over the most trivial things.

Get over yourself. Yeesh.

P.S. I think it's dreadful that you posted solely in English! What about those poor people out there who aren't able to read it! What about those unfortunate folks who don't have the internet either! They won't be able to share in your...er..."unique" viewpoints.

Juxta,

Give the guy a bit of slack. It's not his fault he couldn't get a friend to help him out with this card.
Thankfully, Unfiction is here to help those who may be "socially challenged"
[edit] edited out the "billy no mates" insensitive comment.

Full Transcription of 0.5:

"Did you know that...
fifteen percent of men are colourblind?"

The Ishihara colour test is a test for colour blindness. It was named after
its designer, Dr. Shiobu Ishihara (1879-1963), a professor
at the University of Tokyo, who first published
his tests in 1917. It consists of a number of
coloured plates, on each plate is printed a
circle made of many different sized dots of
slightly different colours,
spread in a random manner. Within
the dot pattern, and differentiated
only by colour, is a number. Whether
a number is visible indicates
whether the viewer has colour
blindness. The full test consists of
thirty-eight plates, but the
existance of a deficiancy is usually
clear after no more than four plates.
Common plates include a circle of dots
in shades of green and light blues with a
figure differentiated in shades
of brown or a circle of dots in shades of red, orange
and yellow with a figure in shades of green. The first
testing for protanopia and the second for deuteranopia.

Strange affliction isn't it? Stranger still is
that less than one percent of women are
colourblind. Anyway, there's a number in
the image above. What is it?
