 		[EVENT] USA Swap Meet Washington DC June 10, 2006
Friday and Saturday in beautiful Virginia (of course spent inside swapping cards and puzzling out puzzles, among other activities)!

Depending on the number of (confirmed/paid) responses I receive, this will likely happen near the Dulles Airport, in Northern Virginia (easiest access to International Flights especially Heathrow). Dulles is about 30 miles northwest of Washington, DC.

Keep in mind, I'm not a professional exhibition coordinator, so resources/funds are limited, but I'd love to get some people together for Swap and other fun of the like...

If responses are really low (less than 15 by May 1st) I will call it off.
If responses are low (16-30 by May 1st) I'll probably need everyone who needs a hotel reservation to pay in full before booking
If I get good response (31-50 by May 1st) I'll likely need about half to pay hotel reservation in full before booking.
If I get an exceptional response (51+ by May 1st) I will still need about half to pay hotel reservation in full before booking, but it will be that much more fun for everyone, and I will probably be able to get some local places to help with sponsorship (free advertising for them!)

Likely candidates for meeting spots are as follows:

Choice 1) Dulles Holiday Inn (1.2 miles from the airport) - $109/room/night by May 1st, $149+ depending on availability, per room, per night after May 1st

More to come if booking becomes an issue.

Mind you all, northwest is actually west on 66. Still in Virginia, though NW of Alexandria/the southernmost parts of DC proper...

 		Hi Drizzt, (I e-mailed this, but you said to post too, so I am)

My friend and I are definitely interested (his sn is Perception). We also know a few other players in the District who would most likely be on board. I've forwarded them the link to your post.

I noticed that the location is tentatively set for Va. near Dulles. What are your thoughts about holding it in DC proper? It may prove more accessible for those of us who actually live in the city and don't have access to cars. Weekend hotel rates in the city are about the same as those you mentioned and it would be easier for people to come down from NY or other nearby cities. (There are several bus lines that offer round trip tickets from NY and Phila. to DC for about $35) My friend and I are more than willing to help out with scouting out locales, contacting players, etc.

Please keep us posted on your plans, and don't hesitate to let us know how we can help. This was a great idea! Thank you for taking the initiative to set this up.

I live in the Maryland Suburbs...so both DC and Virginia are okay by me (as is a meet in Maryland Wink)

I'm glad so many people are willing to come!

Since it seems that most folks interested are from fairly close by, I was thinking of paring this down to a 1-day event at a local comic/card shop. Would anyone be averse to that? I know coming up from South Carolina for a 1day event seems like a bit of a waste, but here's to hoping that everyone who's posted so far is still interested if it's only a 1day thing...

Response has been a little slow, have gotten 3 emails and a couple replies here on the board. I've been asking around, and it looks like a comic shop in Herndon my be interested. I will keep everyone posted as details arise.

With only 4 or so people saying they'd like to come by now, I'm guessing that a hotel conference is out of the question, so I'm going to try moving ahead with just getting a one-day thing going at a local comic/card shop. I'll do my damnedest to be sure they have PXC cards in stock, and I will likely be ordering a 36-pack box myself for door prizes.

If I can get enough interest drummed up, I'm pretty sure the comic/card store here in Herndon would be willing to host this event. I'd like to spread the word a bit locally, and have been posting some "Lost: The Cube"-type sheets on telephone poles and whatnot around the area, hopefully we can get some more folks interested this way. If/when I get a confirmation that the local shop is willing to host, I will post something here.
