Gary Troup is the fictional writer of the book Bad Twin. In The Long Con, Hurley is seen reading a manuscript of the book. It has been known that the book would be published for a while now. The sites associated with Gary Troup are known as fan sites. Definatly NOT in game.

MFI... IMF???

Alright just thought this was a little odd... almost certainly nothing... but...
To see the relation please remeber that this is the brain child of J.J. Abrams who also happens to diret the new Mission impossible. So here's what I just noticed... FMI (the Mathematical Forecasting Innitiative) is IMF backwards... IMF is the organisation Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) works for in the MI films... the Impossible Missions Force... If nothing else it's a little quirky.

Although, it is interesting to note that the book Bad Twin releases today-- the same day that we get the Lost clue during the episode broadcast in the States. I guess only time will tell if these end up being related.

The reason people feel the book may be connected to the game is that in the USA thread someone got an e-mail from Amazon advertising the book coming out today. The timing is extremely suspicious.

garytroup.net and garytroupbooks.com were confirmed to be official by Hyperion's Marketing Director. Not fan sites, but not "in game" either.

The book may be connected, but the sites associated with the book, other than www.garytroupbooks.com, are not in game.

I have heard that the book references Hanso and Widmore.

Is there a post that tells how people came to the answers for the various parts of the game? Like the code for the newsletter.. how did people figure that part out?

Phil, maybe so, but there aren't really any hard and fast rules about these things. It's likely a big media conglomorate like ABC/Disney would be fairly cautious about a project like this and want to cover their asses with legal disclaimer goodness.

Also, Lost enjoys/suffers from its fair share of fansites and suchlike, so it's unsurprising that they want to include some kind of official "marker" to confirm what is/isn't part of the proper game.

The code was actually contained in one of the options of the toll free number. However, as people have reported, there seem to be multiple versions of the options. The option #1 that chippy provided does not have the password on it. However, the recording over at thetailsection.com does have it.

I doubt that it will be shown, but it's concievable that the phone number could provide it.

Couple of interesting things...

When loading a page, the Loading % thing randomly shows only 6 different states...yes... you've got it..

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
4%, 8%, 15%, 16%, 23% and 48%.

The bio for Peter Thompson notes that he had a lung and pancreas cancer that was cured.... perhaps that's where the missing organs went?
