On the main page of Joop's Corner. In the white box in the upper left that says "Joop's Corner" aim just below the first "O" in Joop and you will find a text box that you can type in. There is no way to submit the text though, and hitting enter will just drop you down to the next line. It takes a really long time for the text you type to come up too, at least it does for me. So I think it may just be an error, but reporting anyways.

This was mentioned about two pages back and was listed on jonatj's list of Outstanding puzzles on thehansofoundation.org (Below):

Namaste

Just to clarify for those who may not know. We see the word "Namaste" around the site and also hear the young lady in the intro say it.. I had no knowledge of the meaning so I looked it up and found this. What im wondering is why it was chosen, why a rather non hindu corporation chose this as their mantra. I know its very early in the game, however im just trying to invoke any stimulation

For, Hindu(s), of course, the greeting of choice is "Namaste,"
the two hands pressed together and held near the heart with the
head gently bowed as one says, "Namaste." Thus it is both a
spoken greeting and a gesture, a Mantr(a) and a Mudr(a). The
prayerful hand position is a Mudr(a) called Anjali, from the root
Anj, "to adorn, honor, celebrate or anoint." The hands held in
union signify the oneness of an apparently dual cosmos, the
bringing together of spirit and matter, or the self meeting the
Self. It has been said that the right hand represents the higher
nature or that which is divine in us, while the left hand
represents the lower, worldly nature

Hi everyone

Hope you don't mind me joining you here. I had been posting on the lost-forum site but that's getting bogged down with people adding the same info over and over again with little effort being made to move things along. From what I can see that's different here.

There's a couple of other puzzles that I'd like to add to the previous list.

Why does the missing text on the Mathematical Forecasting Initiative seem to suggest that Steevo is the capital of Zambia when it is Lusaka?
Is there any significance in Joop's appearance in 'The Mysterious Island' by Jules Verne? Has anybody read this.

Hope to be able to help on this.

Jon

Nice find on the book!

It's so close to the plot of the show that it had to be intended by the writers.

A short description I found.

The opening of Myserious Island reads a bit like a serious version of "Wizard of Oz." Cyrus, Pencroft, Herbert, and Gideon, and a dog named Neb make a daring escape from a Civil War prison in a balloon, but the balloon is blown way off course to an uncharted volcanic island.

These men are worthy souls; Captain Cyrus is an inspiring leader, Pencroft, an earthy but hardworking sailor. Gideon is kind of a "everyman" -- observant, strong and resourceful and loving, and Herbert a young, knowlegeable naturalist. These men and their dog Neb conquer the island's challenges and make the very best out of their isolation on the small island.

But are they prepared for the surprises the island has for them such as an orangutan named Joop--and the ultimate surprise in the second half of the book. The suspense keeps the reader turning the pages through a great deal of descriptive information about nature, chemistry, physics and engineering.

7.There are odd reddish stains on both letters found in Joop's loop; located at the upper right quadrant.
I can make out an SU and an R; but I'm funny that way.
I'm thinkin', they must be there for a reason....unless it's a red herring.

Somebody on another forum has said that neither of the login boxes at the bottom right of the screen and in the Board of Directors are programmed to do anything so, at the moment, these seem like dead ends.

I'm kicking myself for not spotting the Joop connection! I read the book many years ago but Sky One in the UK aired a dramatisation of Mysterious Island earlier this year (missing out whole Master Joop character in their version though - so I'm blaming Murdoch!)

The expanded version of the text about Joop which used to be on the Hanso site before the change referred to him as "master Joop", his name in the book (well Jup - short for Jupiter)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE HANSO LIFE-EXTENSION PROJECT CELEBRATES A MILESTONE
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21ST, 2005
The Hanso Life-Extension Project celebrated a milestone in the 105th
birthday of experimental subject 626. Experimental subject 626, known
to Hanso Life Extension project researchers as "Joop" is an orangutan
originally harvested by British explorers in the early 1900's.

In a telex issued earlier today from the Hanso Foundation's
experimental station in Zanzibar, Hanso Foundation Chief Communications
Officer Einar Ragnarsson commented that "considering that the average
lifespan of chimps in captivity is 60 years, this milestone is clear
proof that the suite of transgenic technologies that comprise the Hanso
Foundation's Life-Extension Project will someday help human beings
achieve useful lifespans well beyond the current norm."

While the technologies used by The Hanso Foundation to extend the life
of Joop the orangutan remains the closely guarded intellectual property
of the Hanso Foundation, Einarsson went on to comment that "the Hanso
Foundation feels it important to let the world know of its progress in
this vital era of human endeavor - it is the will of our founder and
Chief Executive Officer Alvar Hanso that all concerned citizens of the
world understand the breakthroughs being made by the Foundation.

Joop the orangutan was judged to be in perfect health by Hanso
Foundation veterinarians and spent his birthday playing games as well
as continuing the advanced language and learning program set for him by
Hanso Foundation linguistic researchers.

"Barring an unforeseen incident, we fully expect master Joop to be with
us for many years to come," concluded Einarsson.

You can read the chapter where they meet Jupiter here:
http://jv.gilead.org.il/kravitz/2/06.html

edit: Just in case a lat/long is important, here's where they calculate their location:
http://jv.gilead.org.il/kravitz/1/14.html

This chapter gives a more precise location of a nearby island:
http://jv.gilead.org.il/kravitz/2/12.html

As you can see on g-maps, there ain't much there (2500 miles from Fiji, 3500 from Hawaii, ???? miles from the Lost Island)
click here (wide URL made the forum stretch)

Closest real islands I can spot are just to the south-east of the Cook Islands (look likes paradise to me!):

And also this very freaky shaped-one I hereby name Bird's Head Island (no idea what it's really called!) Smile

Enjoying this one!

Valanzetti and more

Has anyone confirmed in-game sites? I am pretty sure that http://www.valenzettifoundation.org/ is in. There are referenced on the Hanso site and the site links to Gary Troup, which is an in game character. Now, I'm trying to figure out exactly how tricky they are. The Valenzetti site links to a bunch of sites. One is http://methusalabs.com/. This one pretty clearly seems "in". They claim to have 7 billion in funding and the "FDA approved" drug is not on the FDA website (which means it doesn't exist). It also links to http://www.forhylie.org/, which references Methusalabs. This seems in too. I'm still working through the site, but I'm wondering if others have looked at this.

the validity of the valenzetti foundation's site is a contentious subject because of the disclaimer at the bottom stating that it's not affiliated with ABC, and because of a couple of blog entries/FAQ questions that refer to Lost directly.

this actually raises a question i meant to ask; alot of people on Lost forums are immediately dismissing sites because they do not have abc copyright notices at the bottom, or a link to abc's online 'terms of usage' as previous lost viral marketing websites did. surely though this would not be general practice in an ARG?

I've been trying to figure this one out too. It looks like "Steevo" is supposed to be the capital of a different country though, starting with an "M" and either being 2 words, or a long word hypenated with a lowercase f starting the second part of the word.

Nope. They seem "in" only because they feel ARGish. That's because they *were* ARGs, but totally unrelated to *this* game. Those two sites are from a past ARG about Omnifam referenced in the Alias TV show.

If nothing else, this should tell you that the Valenzetti site is a fan, linking to all sorts of out-of-game things.

Yep. I actually just came across that myself when digging around. Valenzetti is probably out. Truth is that ABC is going to drag this game out over the summer and there probably just isn't that much info out there yet.

[INFO] Not!Puzzle Warning

I was playing around with the high ASCII gibberish which accompanies the MISSING ORGANS message, and I determined the following:

The character set being used is Mac OS Roman. Certain characters aren't available in any other

By obtaining the ASCII code for each character, it seems that approximately the first half of the gibberish is somewhat sequential

In hex:
A3-AA, B2-BA, D2-DA, E2-EA, F2-F5

This sequence isn't conducive to enciphering any sort of message, so I'm pretty sure that the characters are just filler.
