Rarest cards by colour

Whilst in a quiet moment, contemplating the awful things that Miranda had done, I casually counted the vast pile of swaps that I have amassed. Let me tell you, I was shocked. In total I am in possession of 847 swaps with a street value of over £350 - MC must be rubbing their hands with glee. Setting aside this appalling evidence of my wanton profligacy and total lack of willpower or self control (and forgetting the other cards I have bought from deckboosters for an undisclosed but exorbitant fee, and all the trading I have done), I was intrigued by the extreme disparity exhibited by card number and colour. Do your swaps show the opposite, meaning that cards are evenly distributed, or are some cards really rarer than others?

Here are some stats:

Reds (176 swaps)

Most swaps: Cold Fission/Revelation 17
Fewest: Spot Anything 4

Of Wave 3:
Most Dem Old bones 4
Fewest Out on a Limb 0

Oranges (182)

Most: You are here 16
Fewest: Gravity 2

Of Wave 3:
Most: Smile 4
Fewest: Muscae Volitantes 0

Yellows (155)

Most: Close up 16
Fewest: Twisty Little Passages 2

Of Wave 3:
Most: Pictodot 6
Fewest: Dissolution 2

Greens (150)

Most: Infinite series 15
Fewest: Illogical 2

Of Wave 3:
Most: Scam 5
Fewest: Well Red Ad 1

Blues (87)

Most: Detail (Wv 3) 7
Fewest: Mastermind 0

Purples (76)

Most: The 14-15 Puzzle 8
Fewest: Spin Cycle 0

Of Wave 3:
Most: Weighs and Means 6
Fewest: Rolling Around 0

Blacks (20)

Most: Traces 5
Fewest: Master of Secrets 0

Silvers (1)

Currently have 1. Have traded about 12 though. Have definitely had 6 Elucidates but never had a 13th Labour except one puchased separately.

The ones that seem particularly rare to me (other than silvers) are Mastermind and Spin Cycle.

Anyway, long and tedious post on a night when Kurt lies in hospital, but anything to take our mind off the worry.

Incidentally, if anyone could give a loving home to some of these 847 tragically neglected waifs then send me a pm with the ones you could house. I'd hate to see the little fellas go to waste.

I reckon I've got all the spare copies of Gravity - I've given at least 10 away and I've still got 8 left Rolling Eyes . In fact, if the worst comes to the worst, I've got enough to build a small shrine in Kurt's honour. Anyway, given that this is slightly more interesting than what I'm supposed to be doing (Self-Assessmant Tax Form Drool ) I thought I'd give you my stats as well. I gave about 200 of my spares away a couple of months ago but I've still got:

Red (97 swaps)

Most: Spot Anything - 9
Least: Milo - 3

Wave 3 most: Zoo Zanyism - 4
Wve 3 least: Out on a Limb - 0

Orange (99 swaps)

Most: Use Your Anterior Cingulate - 9
Least: Urban Myths - 2

Wave 3 most: 4 Colour Theorem - 4
Wave 3 least: Heist - 0

Yellow (85 swaps)

Most: Pyramidal/What Car?/Mondegreen/Sharp Red - 6
Least: Strange Loops - 1

Wave 3 most: Going Underground/Discovery - 2
Wave 3 least: Dissolution - 0

Green (88 swaps)

Most: My Three Children/The Rice Gambit - 6
Least: Arrange My Lace Bits - 1

Wave 3 most: Sudoku/It's All Greek To Me - 3
Wave 3 least: Magic Square - 0

Blue (75 swaps)

Most: Mastermind/Love Code - 6
Least: Sub Rosa - 1

Wave 3 most: Don't Play With Your Food - 3
Wave 3 least: all others - 1

Purple (66 swaps)

Most: Logical Fallacies/Binary - 6
Least: Down A, B, Up, Up, Right - 1

Wave 3 most: Dances With Bees - 4
Wave 3 least: all others - 1

Black (13 swaps)

Most: Traces - 2
Least: Mexid Massege/New Notation - 0

Wave 3 most: Linguini Junction - currently 1 but I've traded 2 others
Wave 3 least: all others bar Smoke and Mirrors - 0

Silver (10 swaps)

Most: Elucidate/Syzygy Cube/Homage in Glass - 2
Least: I've swapped most silvers but I don't recall ever having had a spare Thirteenth Labour or T-L-P

Wave 3 - can't get any Wave 3 silvers in the first place let alone swaps!

In conclusion: I don't know if that tells us anything about card ratios but it does tell me that I have far, far too many cards and should probably start giving them away again. I wonder if I can write them off as allowable expenses Twisted Evil .

Well from this massive sample of 2, I can conclude that the commoner cards are randomly distributed. You have most cards in Red (spot the difference), Orange (gravity), blue (mastermind - can't believe this, I have NEVER had a mastermind, probably because you're meanly hoarding them all up there in Notts Sad ), and purple (only ever had 2 logical fallacies) where I've had the least.

However, on blacks and silvers we have similar experiences - lots of traces and elucidates, no 13th labours or TLP's (only ever had 1 of these). Maybe there's a pecking order of rarity at this end of the scale?

Btw, you're a bit keen on the tax return aren't you - don't need to be in until September (or is it last year's?). Worth a try to get these through as expenses though, necessary costs to retain sanity etc, hope you kept the receipts.

I just got my 24 packs of Wave 3 cards (12 from me, 12 from my lady) and I know have 1 if not 2 full sets of Wave 1-3 Red to Purple!! I only got 4 blacks and 4 silvers.

I've got about 300 swaps now!!

I can't recall where I saw it exactly but I seem to remember Mind Candy saying that some silvers would be rarer than others - if you look at the Perplex City Trades site it suggests that Broadside is about three times more common than the other Wave 3 silvers (still can't get anyone to trade it for one of mine though Crying or Very sad )

And yes I am being a bit keen on the tax return but only because I think they owe me some money - I'm not normally this conscientious Wink .

Ah, that's all right then. You'll need every penny you can scrape together to get those Wave 3 silvers. Sad

I'm in Notts too but only got the one Mastermind Wink

I've currently got 99 spare cards, most common is Forever Foe (#89 x 4)
Of the silvers I've had, there have been 3 Differently Lethals and 2 Polars, yet not a sniff of Riemann or Thirteenth Labour anywhere.

I'm just waiting for responses on an email or two, and then hopefully I've got the full set of everything up to purple - next comes the more difficult (and expensive) task of acquiring a further 11 blacks and about 12 silvers...

Fitzy

How cruel of you to wave that Mastermind in my face - you Notts lot know how to rub it in! I'd dearly trade a black for a spare mastermind but you lot clearly want to corner the market!
Are you a Forest fan? I am Sad . What a gutting day it was on Saturday eh?

Sorry, Barry - didn't mean to torment you. As it happens, I think another of my Nottingham friends may have a spare Mastermind. I'll get in touch and see whether he'll be willing to part with it - but I'm sure he could be persuaded!

If anyone has hundreds of spare reds and oranges, I'll happily take them off of your hands to use as drop cards around Oxford.

Very Happy

Seriously? I'm happy to donate any to worthy causes - fellow players or Street Team efforts. Just pm me an address if you want any of them.
