Nintendo Revolution Has a Name "Ahead of its pre-E3 conference, Nintendo has revealed the name of its next-generation console, codenamed Revolution. Here is the offcial word:
Introducing... Wii.
As in "we."
While the code-name "Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.
Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.
Wii will put people more in touch with their games ... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean?
Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes this console is for everyone.
Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.
And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.
So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.
Because, it's really not about you or me.
It's about Wii.
And together, Wii will change everything."
Let the bad jokes begin, this is such a bad move for nintendo. Oh well, for everyman his Wii...

Bad move? I'm not so sure. OK, maybe not the best name insult-wise but... I dunno, maybe it's just my fanboyism showing, but it sure fits in with the whole Nintendo 'We don't care what you do cos we're gonna do this' philosophy. Others have said it, but could you imagine Sony or Microsoft pulling this off? All it proves is Nintendo are continuing to go a completely different way to the other next gens, which we already knew anyway thanks to the controller (which I'm now calling the Wiimote ).
I bet some of you are going to see this as a step backwards in terms of the stereotypical association between Nintendo and kiddie gaming. How's this for a logical comeback:
1. You decide not to buy it purely because of the name.
2. In doing this you display a childlike attitude.
3. Nintendo looses a childish customer.
4. The Wii is only bought by sensible people, Nintendo looses the stigma.
I believe any criticisms will be silenced anyway once the Wii's true nature is shown at E3 - just like the opinion on graphics, it's gonna be the gameplay that makes it a revolutionary system, not the name.
Anyway, rant over. Wii will, Wii will, rock you!

Wii didn't start the fire!
At any rate, this is the most controversial thing on any gaming... anything, at this point. At the very least, it's generating attention.
I'm secretly hoping Nintendo of America will rename it the Revolution again.
