Going down the anagram route.

Could be just a small pointer to put us back on track with this;

HAS WIN HOST PC IN NIL URGE (8, not 1 and 6).

can become

HELP WITH INCURSION SNAG (8, not 1 and 6).

Hi,

I definitely think that the anagram should read

SIGN IN WITH HANSO PR CLUE.(8, not 1 and 6)

The 8, no 1 and 6 does seem to be a reference to the transformation of the numbers. I think they are saying the date should be the 8th, and not the 1st (without transformation) or 6th by rotating the numbers half way. Maybe they should have provided this on the 6th but have to delay.

The HANSO PR Clue could be a new press release tommorow or could be from the hidden link in the word 'miracle' in the Wellnes program press release.

Hope this helps.

Steve

I agree

I agree

I'm sorry - i've asked about a similar thing in the Hanso Foundation thread and nobody really objected so I assumed this was ok. I've edited the post and put spoiler tags around it.

Just figured since if they wanted to make it so you couldn't figure out what's going to work or not on the client side (read: us) they could pretty easily do so that it was the natural way of finding out..at least it is in my "IT mode of thinking" Smile.

Well, sorry again and i'll spoiler-tag stuff like that from now on.

I agree Steve, I think that is definitely a plausible possibility.

Yay Lost!

Steve, I think that you probably have it. That's got to be it.

All I know is that Orbital Colony had a puzzle which could only be solved by decompiling the flash (I hope I'm not a liar). It was an ARG started by members from this community, I understand. They all seemed fine with it back then.

But now that the above is spoilered you may consider to remove your quote. Wink

Decompiling a Flash file can be a rather inelegant solution to a puzzle. On the other hand, login verification is usually processed by a seperate script that you can't access, so poking about in the Flash usually serves only to clarify whether it's worth trying to login - but not discover what the login actually is. In that sense, it can be quite a wise move.

Plus, if you make something in Flash, someone will decompile it, so I'm pretty sure TPTB will be careful not to put anything too incriminating in the source. Smile

8, not 1 and 6

seems like the wording could also mean 8, not 1+6 which would be 7.

or 8, not 1 and 6, as in 16, which is twice of 8. Both 8 and 16 are "Lost" numbers and also figure into computer code a lot, like base-16

just a thought.

RE: Brute Force vs. "other methods" of playing the game...

My personal opinion is there isn't anything out of bounds for players, unless you start breaking the law. Look in ILB we had to look at the HTML source, open jpgs in notepad, we regularly "whois" domains looking for clues, and using "out-of-bounds" information to confirm we are on the right track.

How could anyone say if the next clue isn't in decompiling a flash, telneting to a port, hacking into a voicemail system, etc., etc...

You can't.....

I personally would draw the line at social-engineering a Monster.com rep, trying to get them to allow me change the password. - But note: I said that is MY line, personally I smiled when I read someone had done it, and was a little sad that it didn't work.

What amazing ingenuity! And come on, who knows that might have lead to a huge clue. Maybe that wasn't the way they wanted us to find it (the hypothetical clue) but what a clever way to do it. (Heck maybe a game someday would even want us to do that...)

Who knows how large the population is of people following and working on this ARG? Can you imagine the combined intellectual horsepower, resourcefulness, and ingenuity of all of us put together. That rocks.

Unless an ARG comes out with a list of rules, there are no rules. Like I said breaking the law, that should be obvious, but before that, it is all in-game.

One person's opinion,
Loch

If the Monster.com thing is really relevant, and has been planted, then it's more likely that later in the game, we're given a log in for it to investigate further.

I don't think they'd encourage social engineering. It would mean that the whole company would have to be "in on it", and they have a job to do, so....yeah.

This probably sounds like a load of rubbish, been working on a project, and working on this, and now doing college work so....pretty tired.

Forgive me if I am flogging a dead horse with possible alternatavies for the anagram thing, but;

HAS WIN HOST PC IN NIL URGE.

can also become

LUNG RICHES SHOW IN PAINT.

I mention this because there is an infected lung picture in the Institute for Genomic Advancement.

Perhaps there is something hidden within that can be discovered by manipulating the image with Microsoft Paint?

I think you guys need to check out http://emri.perception.net/ as it seems the pm's are posting clues/solutions on there. Its an official site.

This was posted yesterday

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

as: ASCII values:
HAS WIN HOST PC IN NIL URGE. 8, not 1 and 6.
as anagram:
LOGIN HUNCH WAS PRISTINE. 8, not 1 and 6.

-lxicon

so with that in mind, i guess where do we login? or is it just a hint (or hunch) to a login?

have you thought about that perhaps it means to use the information from the telephone option 8 and not 1 or 6? Perhaps we get a new password there

I d call myself and see if option 8 does anything, but i dont want to make a long-distance call just on a hunch =)
