[UPDATE] Path Of Least Time - 09 May 06 - Woke From Dreaming

Quote:
Woke From Dreaming

Tuesday, May 9 2006, 12:29 PM

I'm still not sleeping very well - that nap I took yesterday ended up lasting until 2am, at which point I woke up. I lay there, feeling very melancholic and sorry for myself, until I gave up trying to get to sleep and monitored the Missing Persons feed. I have full access to their site now, and I can view all the information they received about those people who have disappeared. There seemed to be two types of people. One type were usually picked up very quickly, because they weren't actually hiding, or at least not very well - most kids fell into this type. The other type, I imagined, included people who knew about the surveillance cameras and avoided them, or people who were dead. Unsurprisingly, Miranda hadn't been seen on any cameras.

As for sightings reported in by people, just like all the other Missing Persons, the reports were mostly false positives or wishful thinking.

I'm not sure how long I spent looking at the feed, but it must have been some time, beacuse I know I only just woke up (for the second time). I still need to look through the audio reports but it seems like you've made some good progress there on finding results that match Miranda. I'll get back to you soon on that.

You've also told me that you haven't been able to find a 'Miranda Katsoulis' in any of the marathon entries, so she must have entered using a psuedonym. That's why you've been bugging me for information about her that you can use to cross reference and find the name she actually used - fine. There are two more things I remembered that might be useful; firstly that she's a little shorter than me, so probably 5'6" or 5'7", and secondly that I'm pretty sure she entered the marathon in 265 as well as 268. What isn't fine is the amount of time this is taking - we're not exactly getting any closer to finding Miranda, and I need all the data I can get. If you don't care about finding the information from the marathon, just tell me and I'll do it myself.

Wouldn't go as far to say that this is definitely Miranda. Rather annoyingly though it does show that (if this is the same person, and I'm guessing it is!) that her UID is different for each year, which kind of blows the downloading and comparison of years out of the window!! Evil or Very Mad

uid in 265: o4jiq8uiyg5xj7sbkaqy1hgkmlwqgq804tw2pc6z
uid in 268: ywj71dgcp1rbsjbl65et1t8ktzym95rbqf6n2cet

Evil or Very Mad

Which is to say he's found one person which fits that rather vague description.

Didn't we already figure that out though? That each reference in the database had a different UID even if it was the same person? Otherwise calling it up would bring up the same year's information rather than separate.

Besides, they'd never make it that easy for us. Smile

And at least that's one person we can look into. Slowly the field narrows...

Thanks for your confidence Chris. Quite frankly I've seen enough of those bloody names for a lifetime. I don't care if she's not the one, I'm going to PPC myself and when I get hold of Jean Morgan she's going to pay for her crimes (even though she might not have committed any Twisted Evil ). Evil Genius, are you with me?

When I get to school I will start working on this, maybe I'll be able to point out a few people who sound like her.

Well, Kurt... if you'd care to tell us exactly what you want us to be looking for and why...

I think he needs some TLC. Poor snappy Kurt.

Badbarry - how did you find your match, was it by eye?

Not being a totally technical wizz kid, I didn't quite understand the UID search, but I think that what everyone was saying was that all the info was searchable except the names, and that the only way to make the names searchable was to manually look at each one, and type it in.

If this is the case, how do we go about setting it up, a similar division but with smaller chunks than the weekend. And presumably someone is going to have to decide on how we write the info so it can be added to the database, and is the database already built for the rest of the info able to be added to?

I suspect I'm about to get my dose of Omega-3 oils for the week. But we know "Miranda" is between 170 and 175cm tall, and clocked a time under four hours.

Can someone who knows more about this sort of thing than I do, not ferret around in the underlying database and fish out everyone who fits the bill for 265 & 268?

I make it between 1.68 and 1.70 (according to my Nokia convertor)

I've also tried putting in a height parameter into the php page (http://www.polygonparkmarathon.com/runnerinfo.php?year=268&height=26) without any success.

I can't see any way to get to the database without username/password details.

P.S. First post! Hello from grey & dreary Oxford...

Think someone should mail kurt and tell him EXACTLY what we are doing? He's getting kinda snappy, thinkin that we arent doing much to help him, so maybe someone should put his mind at rest? Maybe he could suggest something usefull if we told him what we were doing with the UID's?
Either way we need to let him know we are putting all our energy into it dont you think?
