Dear all a new client version is available. A patch and full version are on the site as usual. This update includes a proxy server details of how to configure can be found in the readme.txt.

The major detail in this update is that it is much faster and can process units at 2 or 3 times the speed of previous incarnations. Please update your current installation as soon as possible as you really will see a dramatic difference in the number of units you can process - all of which will mean more chance of finishing this a lot sooner.

the website download page is here

Keep up the good work and spread the word

Just a note to say a continued thanks for the hard work to all involved - nice one guys Smile

Oh - and holy jeebus this new client is quick Very Happy

Edit to add the quote, since I inadvertantly knocked it to the previous page Embarassed

Well it is certainly there. Try holding Ctrl+Shift when you go to the site, that will ignore any (local) cache you might have. If you are behind a proxy you might have a problem.

chimera245, will your monkey have a big enough supply of bananas if there are ~1500 of us doing a WU every 3 minutes?

the new client is excellent! I was averaging a wu in 50 minutes (my computer isn't the best..) and now it's doing them in 15!

The Web Server should be able to - though of course to be safe I am continuously monitoring this. If there are any congestion issues - the next major client release will feature multiple WU assignment - reducing the Webserver workload down appropriately.[/quote]

Improving unit processing speed

Hi,

I joined this effort with the full client v1.0.2. Since then I've upgraded my clients. Now with this super fast client (congratulations guys - superb effort!) I noticed that my CPU's were no longer maxed out. I looked at config.txt and found it had the value 1000 in it for the throttling. I changed it from 1000 to 10000 and my processing time halved again (4 minutes to 2 per unit).

Additionally you can set the value to 0 for the client to go as fast as possible.

So I thought I'd post here to remind folks to check their config.txt values to squeeze out even more performance.

All the best,
Mark

Client improvement

Hi,

I just thought I'd post a simple improvement for the next client. Have the client check it's version number against the server whenever it is given a new work unit, and print a line on the screen to ask the user to do the upgrade.

Cheers,
Mark

Not quite getting rid of the item but if you can accept putting it in the task bar (in the bottom right) with just a tiny item try:

http://www.teamcti.com/trayit/trayit.htm

It doesn't install anything and all you do it ctrl-click the minimise button and it puts it in the command bar, now I have a low priority shortcut which I can minimise to tray auto-running so I never have to worry about it (btw if you want a low priority shortcut for the program create a shortcut and then change the target to:

Quote:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "13th Labour" /low "C:\13labour\Labour13.exe"

Try that, for some reason that only works sometimes with games for me. Some are find but others are incredibly laggy.

I'm also getting congestion a lot more now that I was before.... Its annoying though because once its congested I have to restart the client, for some reason it doesn't retry.

WoW seems to be fine, No more laggy than usual. I mean, Loading instances and new continents seeminly takes a tad longer, but that might just be me.

By the way, The client is starting to say this after a few units every once in a while:

Congestion Encountered closing work unit, waiting for retry,
Retrying now,

Then it repeates itself untill it gets a new work unit. I assume this is due to server overload because of the amount of units that are being processed?

The congestion has increased,
but that's only to be expected really,
as the new client is faster than ummm Flaming Nutter a burning guy on a bike?,
anyway it's pretty fast.....

I'm sure Chimera is already implementing server improvements etc.
(as chimera mentions above actually Worshippy )

Even with the increased congestion, my percentage of the completed work is reducing rapidly (which means everyone else is working harder) Laughing

Well done everyone, convince all your friends to run it,
We are almost at the 5% mark!!! so you can say it's only for a short time,
plus get them to use your e-mail address to increase your prize-winning chances! Wink
