When Halo came out and Cortana wasn't the rampant, Durandalesque, poetry-spouting, insane fruitbat that the letters had predicted, everyone figured they'd just brushed aside the Cortana Letters and forgotten about them.

What's going on here? Cortana is nice. This isn't what we were expecting.

Now, Halo 3 rolls around. Cortana has been exposed to a planet-sized computer network and left to her own devices. Melissa has shown us that the rules of Rampancy apply to Halo AIs just as they do to Marathon AIs. And we see that, after all these years, the letters weren't brushed aside, and they weren't forgotten.

When I saw the trailer I also thought of you guys...though I was not an active partcipant during the ARG...more of a lurker.

Anyways a correction to your quote:

Cortana says it real quick and quieter then gods and demons but she definitely says men.

When I saw this, I immediately thought to come here and see if there were any hidden URLs or somesuch, because I knew that if there was, it would be here first.

I think that bungie will probably do a Halo 3 ARG, because it seems so un-Bungie not to. I really hope that they do. I'm putting this forum on my RSS reader just so I can be a part this time.

yes, I feel I wasn't able to participate as much as i would have liked during ilovebees, although I did answer a few axons, and was at one of the new york ones on the first day.

This time around I'd definatly like to be a more active participant...I'm reeeaally hoping they do an ARG for this, hopefully similar, or better than ilovebees!

EDIT: Chupacabra, I'm pretty sure its Gods AND Demons, it sorta sounds like men, but its definatly an "and".

Cortana, the sword, was given to Prince Ogier of Denmark by Charlemagne. Whether the sword was crafted specifically for Ogier or handed down to him isn't clear.

The inscription on the sword:
"My name is Cortana, of the same steel and temper as Joyeuse and Durindana."

Durandal refers to himself at least once as "Durandan, Durandal, Durandana".

Durandal had body parts of various saints put into its construction, and Joyeuse was made from the Lance of Longinus, and allegedly is either in the Louvre or in a Vienna museum. Cortana, apparently, is currently part of England's crown jewels.

durandal is the name of an AI in an older first person shooter game made by bungie called marathon. Halo has alot of references to marathon in it.

As early as Halo I when you got Cortana back from the Halo mainframe, I was considering the Cortana Letters. Finally I am turning out to be right...she IS going rampant. I was so floored when I realized everything she was saying in the trailer was in the Cortana Letters. And the music just made the realization so much better.
