Is it worthwhile looking a little at what's missing that might be expected based on some of the obvious links and conjectures.

Here's a start:
Brazilian comes from Portugese but there is no Portugal
The UK & US are there but no Canada, Australia or New Zealand of the obvious English speaking territories
(also no Western Isles, Orkney Isles although they may be too small but as a Scot thought I should point them out!)
US with Alaska but no Hawaii as pointed out earlier
Only Georgia & Uzbekistan along with Russia of the old Soviet Union
No Mexico yet Spain is there
No Palestine

Also they have only had to draw on 4 borders between:
Ireland & the UK
Georgia & Russia
Egypt & Israel & Jordan

Hi,

I have searched through the thread and can see no reference to the background. If I'm not mistaken it looks like surf from the sea. I don't really know where I'm going on this one but it seems like it would be of some significance, i would have thought that the artist wouldn't have done that for no reason. You'd think he'd use plain black unless he's trying to throw us off the scent?!

Just a though, lets hope someone gets this soon, I'm losing sleep over thinking about it!

Go back one page and you'll see that the background has been bothering me, too. Confused

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
snub same, use only mother language

With the answer being something along the lines of

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the language of the invading peoples, such as english?

I don't have the card, so can't try it out.

The background looks like a whirlpool. No, not the washing machine! Although it looks like in the bottom left hand corner it looks as though there are rocks there and the waves are coming in and hitting them, resulting in lots of spray.

Just an observation.

Can confirm that:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
pidgin
creole
lingua franca

don't work. Although I still feel that that may be a valuable line of enquiry.

MOTHER TONGUE - MOTHER NATURE... Could all of these places have been devastated by a NATURAL DISASTER (at one time or another)? Shocked

Hurricane
Tsunami
Typhoon
Volcano
Earthquake
Drought/Famine
etc

Still trying to find some kind of commonality. Confused

this may be a strectch but what about fires?
fires are said to have tongues, and some forests are naturally set on fire to cause the seeds of the trees to be released?

maybe all of these countries have some kind of fire in their history?
