[META] ISBN number for Wave 4 cards

Hope no-one's covered this already; I couldn't find it on a search.

On a speculative wander through Amazon, I came across this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0955297001/qid=1147347394/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/203-2360112-1378347

As someone who has worked in publishing for a while, this is actually more meaningful than you might realise.

It looks as though MindCandy haven't registered ISBNs for previous packs of cards, and this is new for Wave 4. You don't just get ISBNs; you have to apply for them with the ISBN Agency and pay for them. You also have to jump through various hoops to prove that it's a book - or at least a book-related product, as officially ISBNs are only issued to bona-fide books. However, once a product has an ISBN, it can then be ordered by any bookshop in the UK - and, once it's loaded with Nielsen (one of the biggest databases/ordering systems), can be ordered by consumers through Amazon, which is obviously what's happened here.

So I'd say this suggests the puzzle cards are reasonably soon going to be appearing in various other bookshops, including possibly other big chains as well as Borders!

Oh, also, it gives us a bit of a clue as to when Wave 4 is coming out, if we didn't know Smile

Interesting!

1 July would be less than three months since wave 3 - I think that would be shorter than the gap between previous waves (it seems like it, anyway). I don't think I could stand another hit on my time so soon.

Didn't the Sentinel say something about them coming out by the end of the year?

I'd take the release date with a large pinch of salt - I've seen numerous occasions where Amazon have listed books which haven't actually been written yet Smile

The registration is probably due to the fact that Amazon carry Borders stuff, Iwouldn't use it as any kinda guideline for when Wave 4 will hit - bear in mind that up until the day of release, not even Firebox were giving any release dates, and they are pretty much as close to Mind Candy as you can get.

Personal recommendation: Expect it when you see it Smile

Quite, for example Nick Cohen's new book has a release date of 2008 and a different title to what it will be and it will out before the end of the year.

In summary, meh.
