[XCCR] Trailhead - xccr.com

So I see this weird sig on Slashdot posted by some guy named "foundme".
Quote:
Please stop entering code 227664 [xccr.com]

Naturally I'm curious, so I go over there and enter the code. It spits out this strange little diagram and resets the timer. Ok, time to do some digging. Whois isn't really helpful:

Poking around a little bit I find that the images directory is open for browsing, and contains a rather interesting readme.txt:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The correct code for your designated server must be entered at least once every
ninety nine minutes.

Failure to do will result in the loss of valuable resources, and delay in the
successful completion of this program.

Each successful input of the code will either open a closed door or close an
open door.

You must not attempt to use the console for anything else other than for
entering the code.

Each person may only enter the code once every 10 minutes.

The first team to arrive at the next checkpoint will be contacted and rewarded
accordingly.

Most entries don't do anything, but I've also gotten some results (the little box picture) from entering 43722 and 3.

At this point I'm stumped.

I think the signature is clever. What's the first thing you do when told not to do something? Yep, you probably just awarded his team points, or something.

I got the box with 227666 (but not every time). The string of numbers below the input prompt appears to be the string of most recently entered numbers, scrolling from left to right. I noticed this by entering 00000 which was then easy to track across.

What it means, I have no clue. Confused

Also in the images directory are 4 images of keys (numbered 1-4 and labeled KW (west -- attached below), KE, KN, KS.gif

[spec] one or more of these will come up if the 'program' succeeds and will provide links to the next level[/spec]

I can't get the box back at the moment Sad

Just got the box back with 43722 Smile

I intended to just let it sit and count down for a while before entering again, but others have input numbers and the box (door?) is closed.

Just got the door open with 314159 (common approx for Pi -- maybe the 'codes' are lists of fundamental constants?)

Hard to keep track of what is working and what is not. Looks like the good numbers only work once every 10 minutes for each player (based on IP address?)

So, my current review:
1. There are a list of numbers that work,
2. Each number works only once every 10 minutes (for that number)

[spec]we need to find the entire list of numbers that work and enter them within the 10 or 99 minute limit.
OR
we need to get the counter (upper left, currently says 3 42) to a certain level[/spec]

Got a new boxwith + and - symbols in the left half. Went back to the original number at the start of this thread (227664)

Means???

Interesting note, putting in 227664 doesn't update the running number list.

Lost related?

This may be too obvious, but is this Lost related, or did they just want to make it look like the screens from the show?

Not Lost, I think.

So I don't think this is Lost related.

It looks like you can get a box with many different numbers, but number 227664 is already "owned" by someone playing this game, and her box is filling up since lots of us are putting in her number.

When I get a box putting in random numbers, it's empty. When I got the box for 227664, it was half full of plus signs.

I hope 227664 gets a good prize and comes over and lets us in on the game. Smile

Some numbers (sometimes) gives you a box. But doesn't seem to update the upper left counter (now at 3.82).

Some numbers (sometimes) update the upper left counter (by an amount between 1 and about 5 or so), but don't give you a box.

Some of these (sometimes) updates the upper right clock, back towards 99 minutes.

Just got four keys.

After getting the half-full box with 227644, waited ~10 minutes and re-entered it, I got four keys in the input line. The keys were numbered and the sequence was 3412.

I think i've figured a little more out by looking at the javascript that drives the page. When you successfully enter the 227664 code and get your keys, the page immediately goes into a different mode. Its *appears* that once you've got your keys up, you can enter 1,2,3 or 4 to make a "move". Which kinda makes sense, since each key seems to indicate a direction. Its possible that each key indicates a valid move you can make, which would explain why sometimes there are different keys.

When you hit 1,2,3 or 4 the page will imediately do something (no need to hit enter). When I did it, it took me to the same old blank page, but the box at the bottom was still there with all the +'s in it. I think this might indicate that I made the wrong "move". I'm guessing that if you make the right move you'll get another page with more keys and you'll be able to make another move. I'll try again tomorrow, sadly I need to head to bed now.

A couple other observations. The empty box at the bottom seems to just appear at random intervals. If you just keep hitting enter on the page you'll eventually get it. Also, as we know you can only enter your code every 10 minutes. I *think* each time you enter it it resets your 10 minute timer (so if you enter the code again after 9 minutes, you'll get nothing and have to wait another 10 minutes). So don't keep trying it, just be patient.

I put in 14159265 (The numbers after the decimal in pi) and got an interesting animation with the box.

Also...I don't think I saw this yet...trout me if you must... but the number near the top of the page translates to a decimal from binary. Maybe we're supposed to insert the numbers after the decimal in naturally recurring numbers?

Has anyone let the counter run down to 0 yet? I don't have time right now (in school XD) but I'll try l8er.
