I've sent an e-mail to azimuthSPLATawareinstitute.org, and it hasn't bounced, but I haven't gotten any answer, either ...

Hmm.

Here's a thought: this thing was just created on March 14th, apparently. It's possible that it's not only not ready to launch, but that there aren't any players, or only an initial crop of players (the cognescenti.)

Edit: I also sent an e-mail, this one to aube@awareinstitute.

*sigh*

Just got this from Ian:

Quote:

Mist,

Thanks for the enquiry about Unleash.

Can I direct you to the 'Is Unleash an ARG' page at: http://un.lea.sh/unleash_arg for more information.

Thanks

Ian.

So I guess until/unless I get tapped on the shoulder, I'm going to look for something else to obsess over!

So...looks like we have two options...we can either sit here and wait...hoping that someone we know invites us. OR we can look for people who are aware...and through various twistings of social niceties...eh...I hate english...use them to get into the game... Twisted Evil ...

I wonder what I'll be doing. Wink . I'll let you guys know when I find somebody.

Any clues as to how to find someone? I've googled every possible combo to try and find something - but no luck so far.. I'll keep trying.

I don't think finding someone to ask will work.

It seems to be the flow of the game to work kinda like a pyramid scheme for getting new people.

Finding someone to ask then acting as a gateway for a lot more new people seems a little unfair for the game controllers.

Of course, they might be doing this on purpose to GET a huge influx of people. But it's more likely they're trying to stop a huge influx of people all coming from the same place at once.

What puzzles me is that if it's a Friendster kind of chain system that causes people to join, who are the first players and how do they get in there? And has the game even started already?

Presumably they found a group of beta-testers to be the initial players. Those people can invite people they know to play. As they mention, they are concerned about player-management and quality control -- it is part of their development arrangement.

If you are looking for games to play, Chasing the Wish 2 should be starting soon as well as the Lost ARG which starts May 3 in the US.

EDOC Laundry has had some action and Perplex City is going strong.

I think we might as well let them get the bugs out of the system of their game and focus on playing something that is accepting players.

Yeah, I'm making point of keeping track of a bunch of the up and coming ones, including Lost and Studio Cypher. Just very curious about this one, since the story looks great. Smile Shutting up now.

Ok here's my contribution. I do not have the time to check out all of this info so I am providing it to the group:

awareinstitute.org registered by Ian Millington (someone has already received an email from Ian)

http://un.lea.sh resolves to IP 62.128.133.66

Reverse DNS look-up on 62.128.133.66 shows the following 17 sites hosted on that server. I looked at WHOIS on a couple, they were registered by Ian as well, so it probably isn't a hosting service, but rather Ian's own server.

I'm not sure if any are related to http://un.lea.sh but at least it is something.

Another thought. Now that we have seen the word "Aware" used, could this be related to AWARE 2?

Not sure if they are all in-game but from what I've clicked on sofar, all of those websites are online, don't think they were before. I also can't find any mention of them on google.

only the last four are IG. the last two aren't in play yet. I think we covered this before...but I just went through and double checked because of the above comment.

I think I might be on the trail leading to someone Aware...maybe. I'll let you know when I do.

PEACE

For those who haven't read the entire thread,

un.lea.sh is NOT an ARG.

As a matter of fact, you would be doing the owner of the game a disservice by attempting to infiltrate it, hack it, or do anything similar the way one might do for an actual ARG. As mentioned on the NearWorlds site, and on the un.lea.sh site itself, even if you gain access to any hidden pages, you can't play the game unless you're a part of it, and it'll be pretty obvious if you're not.

As for people who are already Aware, I wouldn't be surprised if OOCly, players have been instructed to stay far away from people associated with Unfiction for fear of taking a private project public before its time.

You know, they mention that you have to have a game account, you won't make "progress" without one, etc...

It sounds like it's another "Majestic". It has a login for you to get into the game, and information / interactions are delivered to you that way, along with the sites they have out there to get more info.

Sounds good!

Yeah, but reverse DNS is a bit of a cheat to finding the sites in an "in game" way. You don't go reverse DNS on every site you browse do you? If you do I'd have to say you got some personal problems and can I recommend a good Doctor for you?

Right now we have:
A Note for Non-Players from Ian

and an entry in Ian's blog The Tenacity of the Unfictionite
Quote:
But something happened last week that was unexpected. The site got unfictioned. And, despite the fact that there was almost no rabbit-hole, the chase was on!

We decided the policy should be to return correspondence 'in setting' with likewise, and to be frank about the game when asked directly. We got 20 emails in two days.

And the interest was accidentally piqued again when I uploaded the latest teaser material, including various clues and copy. Now we've even got all the websites with DNS records to my server on the post! So I'm a bit lost what to do next. I don't want to discourage potential players, but I don't want it to appear like we're running an ARG either. So maybe honesty is the best policy.

In other words, they aren't ready for the influx of people that opening the game to everyone who is interested. Meaning, Gang can we please back off and give them some room to breathe!

When Orbital Colony (for which I was a PM) was in developement, we had friends and players waiting for a couple years while we worked on things to get it ready for it's public appearance. Trust me, things will look and run much smoother if we give them the room they need to develope this at a pace they can manage.

If we behave, then maybe a player/cognoseti will take pity on us and use us as a challenge solving resource and share the developing story with us, even if we don't get asked to play immediately.

Ok. That last was just wishful thinking on my part. Sorry Ian. We just like the way the web sites look, and the story looks like it will be very rich and interesting. Wink Cool We are looking forward to hopefully being allowed on the inside one day!
