[SOLVED] "Automatic Writing" from Book One

This one doesn't look familiar to us veterans. What do you guys think?

[Edit - When the 3rd installment of the Online version of Book 1 was available on June 6th, Dale revealed that the printed version of his dream writing was incorrect. I've left the printed version attached, but here is the correct online version].

Maybe the ( ) and the +, - and numbers refer to the order the words need to be placed?

Edited to add the words grouped by the symbols under them

(1
think
mind

(2
of
on

(3

said
grin
had

(4
look
alive

(7

1)

say
now
a

2)

not
no

4)

5)

anyway

+1)

your

+2)

(+1

(+2

(+4

well

-4)

(3-

yours
someone

(5-
six

(6-
scattered

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
one partial I can pull out of this (using the picture for inspiration)
a 1) hand -4) of (2 six (5- fingers 4)
If this gives anyone a thought on how to solve?
edited for missing word
you lost some data
So if we think of these as word pairs we have 6 types of word
a (#
b ( #-
c ( #+
d -#)
e +#)
f #)
Catagorized words
type # word
a 1 think
a 1 mind
a 2 on
a 2 of
a 3 had
a 3 time
a 3 said
a 3 grin
a 4 look
a 4 alive
b 3 it
b 3 someone
b 3 yours
b 4 hand
b 5 six
b 6 the
b 6 scattered
c 1 with
c 1 choose
c 2 son
c 3 you
c 4 only
c 4 lad
c 4 careful
d 1 what
d 2 real
d 2 to
d 3 well
d 3 he
e 1 one
e 1 looks
e 1 your
e 1 quickly
e 2 you
e 2 on
f 1 a
f 1 make
f 1 now
f 1 say
f 2 to
f 2 he
f 2 not
f 2 no
f 4 fingers
f 5 five
f 5 other
f 5 anyway
f 7 for
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There are an equal number of ( and ) so i think they may be
pairs however they don't match up perfectly unless i misstyped one of these.
I'm working on building a list of word pair and the values they make.
I'm going to bed, but have this:
Code:
with      (1+     1) make
choose    (1+     1) say
son       (2+     1) now
you       (3+     1) a
lad       (4+     2) he
only      (4+     2) to
careful   (4+     2) not
it        (3-     2) no
yours     (3-     5) other
someone   (3-     5) five
hand      (4-     5) anyway
six       (5-     4) fingers
scattered (6-     7) for
the       (6-
mind      (1     +1) looks
on        (2     +1) one
of        (2     +1) quickly
think     (1     +1) your
time      (3     +2) on
said      (3     +2) you
grin      (3     -1) what
had       (3     -2) real
look      (4     -2) to
alive     (4     -3) he
                 -3) well
I've grouped them by paired possibilities, but think I have an extra Plus or Minus sign, somewhere that if removed would put that word in the other group, balancing the pairs.
Putting them this way allows for mathematically logical combinations like:
Code:
six       (5-     4) fingers
on        (2     +1) one
hand      (4-
"six fingers on one hand"
I know it could be fine and were dealing with more advanced formulae than just pairs, but thought we could start with the simpler track.
Certain words only have a few complimentary words from the opposite column. Like "the". It can really only go with a few of the words on the right, with the most likely candidate being, "other".
I've been going over that as well.
The one possiblility would be a double negative
(a - -b)
But that complicates things
My list shows the same thing, so it looks like there are just more signed numbers than unsigned.
What about grouping pairs as they all give the same result?
Like (6-3), (2+1) and so on...
I have no time to try it myself so... Rolling Eyes
Or making sentences that when all the numbers are added/subtracted the sum is 0.
Well that doesn't account for the parenthesis.
The brackets don't match up if you only pair neutrals (like (2 ) with positives and negatives ( +3), -1) ). There are too many positives and negatives on both sides.
However, if you count the number of words in each 'group':
5 in group -#)
7 in group (+#
12 in group (#
5+7=12
6 in group +#)
7 in group (#-
13 in group #).
6+7=13
I don't know how the words match up when you do this though.
I'm wondering if the spacing of the words on the lined paper makes a difference?
Some words are tilted - the left side of the word is lower than the right side of the word. Other words rest directly on the line, some are in the middle between the lines and others a resting just below the line.
Just to throw a little more analysis into the mix, taking how many word per line there are we get:
1 3 1 3 2 1 2 2 1 4 2 0 4 1 3 1 3 2 2 2 3 1 1 1
Also, as there are 48 words I was trying earler to sort them into 8 lines with 3 pairs on each. Thought maybe each line could have piars that add up to their line numbers (i.e. (5-4) on line 1, (1+7) on line 8 ) but wasn't having too much luck.
I wouldnt think that matters Magesteff. The idea is that it was Automatic Writing while he was half asleep... that alone would account for not everythign being level and straight I would think.
I'm off to work and taking the puzzle with me
