[SPEC] Dr. Thomas Skinner/Werner Mittelwerk My wife and I were "catching up" on all of the ARG stuff, and she mentioned that in Hebrew, "Thomas" means "twin".

Worth looking at?

Yeah.
(latest season 2 episode 21)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
First thing I thought of when I saw the fully-armed Marvin Candle in last night's episode was "clone." Since he gave a different name, and both training films were from the same year.
I'm sure cloning will become a theme.

I am unsure as to the validity of the whole 'Skinner' thing. I believe the name is supposed to come from the Hanso phone line, but I have called again to chack and am certain that I hear 'Werner' - no mention of a 'Skinner' at all. Perhaps the people who thought they heard 'Skinner' were confused by the German pronunciation of the W such that it sound like a V? Or perhaps I've misunderstood where people got the 'Skinner' idea from in the first place. Anybody else care to weigh in?

Sorry for shouting...

Abraxas, don't worry: Mr. Beefy's comment about cloning is only speculation. There's nothing in the spoiler tag that implies it at all.

I don't hear Skinner either- it's just Werner with a German accent (Verner). (I'm weighing in!)

It's so weird. I hear a "Sk". And I hear an "ih". And I hear an "er". Even if there's some sort of static over the first letter and it IS a V that would still make what I hear "Vinner" not "Verner". Heh.

i seem to remember the whole clone thing starting way back in a fake script page found on oceanicflight815.com awhile back, something about jack finding his twin on the island.
Also, The actor playing Marvin Candle was listed as Waxman/Candle on a few sites like imdb so its very possible there could be two of him.

The way I hear it, Voice Mail Lady says "Thomas Skinner Mittlewerk" as choice #3, but the person at that number says he is "Thomas Werner Mittlewerk." But then again, she can barely prounce the word "general" when she says "for general informaiton, press one" so maybe she just never got elocution lessons like Madonna or summat.

Season 2, Episode 21 Spoiler:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In the orientation film for the Pearl, the man (who looks exactly like Marvin Candle but is apparently fully-armed) says his name is "Mark Wickman." [The guy isn't credited on IMDB for that episode under any of his character names.] When I first saw it, I thought he said Whitman, but now that you've posted this bit about Waxman I realized I had misheard. The clip is on You Tube for now. (Wickman's at about the 4 minute mark).

I have listened to how his name is pronounced on the phone-line yet again, and can say with absolute certainty that the name 'Skinner' is not said by either the operator lady or by Mittelwerk himself. As far as I can hear, the operator-lady settles for pronouncing it 'Fear-ner'.
I repeat: there is absolutely no Skinner mentioned on the Hanso Phone Service.
Which brings me to ask, is this where people thought they heard the name, or has Skinner been mentioned somewhere else?

I still hear "ih" not "ea" in that syllable. Heh. And yes that's where I hear it.

As mentioned here:

kete00 said (and referenced a late Season 2 reveal in episode 17):
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"We do have reason to believe that Alvar Hanso is dead. On the blast door, there is a reference to "known final restng place of Magnus Hanso". Now I know that this is not definative proof, but it sure says a lot."
This makes the pages below particularly interesting.

Spoiler, S02E03, "Orientation." Spoilered for UK fans who may have DVR'd the ep and not gotten to it yet.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Marvin Candle mentions B.F. Skinner's work in the orientation film discovered at The Swan:
The Dharma Initiative was created in 1970, and is the brainchild of Gerald and Karen DeGroot(?), two doctoral candidates at the University of Michigan. Following in the footsteps of visionaries such as B.F. Skinner, (?) imagined a large-scale communal research compound where scientists and free-thinkers from around the globe could pursue research in meteorology, psychology, parapsychology, zoology, electromagnetism, and utopian social.... (source: Lostpedia )
Based on that, I think some of the US fans are hearing what they want to hear on that phone message. I somehow doubt that Mittelwerk is some sort of super-clone of Werner von Braun *and* the other fellow *and* a bunch of other people, like Serpentor in the old GI Joe cartoon.
