Maybe it is nature-related. If we have to get native, what about native fauna?

Tried
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Snake and Woodpecker

as they are the only things I can find that are famous for their tongues that can be apparently found in Alaska.

I suggested the mother nature link on page 7....

'Mother Nature' to me means plant and animal life. That isn't what I was trying to convey, although that is surely affected in a 'natural disaster'. My thought process was more like this:
MOTHER tongue
MOTHER NATURE
NATURAL disaster

I haven't seen any mention of 'natural disasters'. If there was, trout away! Confused

I can confirm it's *not* FLOOD or FAMINE.
It's also *not* DARWIN, as someone suggested.
And now I'm locked out until this time tomorrow. Sad

I was thinking that maybe something to do with adapting to the different languages, such as these failed attempts: A Berlitz Course and A Translator I think that some sort of translation tool is what is needed

29th country!

Nowhere nearer solving this card, but I can confirm that there is a *29th country* that everyone has missed:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
French Guyana - know in French as Guyane

*sigh*

You're right - good spot. Back to the drawing board...

Edit: are we absolutely sure there isn't a 30th? 30 would be a far more satifying, rounder number than 29...

...ah, but it wouldn't be prime, would it?
Seriously though, good spot, but I for one still feel no nearer. Who would have thought a black card would outlive nearly all the Wave 3 silvers?
Good stuff!

Anyone tried UV light? I don't think there's any clues hidden on it, but I'm thinking that this card is so far past the spectrum in difficulty the border is actually UV (or maybe gamma) and thus shows up black in the visible spectrum. Smile

We have had lists of countries in their own tongue, the native languages, so just for completeness, this is the list I found of the native people's nationalities - demonyms. Not much help, as most are the same as the countries, but if you are looking the anagram route, it helps with the slight confusion around UK and USA.
Albanian
Angolan
Austrian
Brazilian
Chadian
Ecuadorean
Egyptian
Equatoguinean
Eritrean
Georgian
Guatemalan
Irishman
Israeli
Japanese
Jordanian
South Korean
Lao
Liberian
Mauritanian
Netherlander/Hollander/Dutchman
New Caledonian? (Couldn't find this one)
Omani
Russian
Somali
Spaniard
Briton
American
Uzbek
Guyanese

I'm as sure as I can be that country number 30 is...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
...the Federal State of Micronesia - the small dark patch below the scratch-off silver box is in exactly the right place for its capital city if you use a world map with that particular projection.

It doesn't show all the islands, but that's true of other countries too - Russia's Arctic islands aren't shown for example.

Interestingly,

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
French Guiana (different spelling again) is, according to the World Fact Book, an overseas state of France as well.

'Going native' as opposed to go native which was Von's clue, has implications around colonising Africa by the Europeans, it also has derogatory connotations.

I wonder if it has anything to do with imperialism ? Have a look at Conrad's 1899 book 'Heart of Darkness' which is about the height of European imperialism and the 'scramble for Africa'. Maybe the card is connected to civilisation itself? Europe saw Africa as a place not to go full of cannibals and uninhabitable terrain, so I'm lost on this one (as usual lol).

By the way I just wanted to say I think a lot of the answers by people on some of the cards are inspired and congratulations to everyone who has helped solved the cards the rest of us find impossible !
