CLIENT UPDATE PLEASE READ

Vesrion 1_2_0 of the client is now available to download from the 13th labour website. You can get it here

This version will solve the issues encountered with congestion and we need ALL clients to be updated ASAP.

The new version will download 10 work units at a time and process them before getting the next batch.

Many thanks for your patience and please continue to help the cause.

Well, I'm just about to update Smile Will let you know how it goes.....

Still got a bit of congestion but I suppose that is because of most people still on the older client.

<edit> clients are working now... server must have come back up </edit>

Also, what time zone is the stats page running off of? I know I'm in a different time zone, but it would be nice to know how much I need to adjust when looking at it.... thanks.

By the look of it it works on BST atm (i.e. GMT+1)

I've updated to the latest client (1.2.0) and have got the congestion encountered validating client message for over an hour now on three different machines.

Is this a problem with the client since 1.1.3 used to connect after 1 or at max 2 retries?

Anyone else having this problem?

I had that problem for a bit, and then (I dunno if this is what fixed it) I used the "Install New" download and just copied and pasted the non-text files, rather than using the upgrade.... when I just used the upgrade, it would still only download 1 WU at a time.

I used the upgrade version as well.
The client took about 3/4 of an hour to validate, completed one work unit (I presume finishing the last one it was working on), then spent 20 mins getting a batch of 10 work units.
Since then my computer has been spending between 1 and 2 hours in between each batch of 10 work units. Right now the client has been waiting 2.5 hours for a new batch of work units and counting. Shocked
I'm hoping that this problem will settle down once more people start using the new version of the client.

The server is up at the moment (it was down for 45 minutes between 23:00 and 23:45 BST approx), though very heavily loaded.

Once more clients are on to 1_2_0, this should ease - so the faster clients go accross the better.

As for the single unit - the new client finishes whatever unit the client had (obviously one) before restarting.

Noticed a few bugs of sorts with the new clients in the sense that they just simply close for no reason. I had three clients running, all separate installs on the same machine from different folders, and after waiting for a while to validate they all closed (not at the same time but eventually).

This hasn't happened before, but very strange now...

I think I may have (inadvertently) borked one of the timeout settings in the maintenance I did server side this morning.

I'll look later on today and see if I can track it down. Sorry again for the inconvenience.

I've installed the new client but I get a congestion message, the "retrying now," and then a lonnnnnnnnnnng wait before it actually retries. Then just more congestion . . . Also experienced the "closing while waiting to validate" bug/feature.

Probably because the server is down...

Here is how I can tell if the server is down:
Goto [ http://www.13thlabour.tk/HTML/stats/24hours.htm ] (that's the stats page...)
The chart is usually up to date (it refreshes every 15 minutes, iirc). If it is way behind where it should be (apparently it's on BST), then you can probably assume the server is down. If you come back later and refresh the page and it stays the same, you can bet your boots it's down.

So, there's still a lot of congestion... but mostly the trouble is the server atm, and I'm sure it will all get better once everyone switches over to the new client...

That would 'splain it - thanks for the idea re: how to check on the server!

The server IS up - but is allowing only a fraction of the number of connections through.

As I mentionned earlier - I borked a timeout parameter earlier today.

This should be rectified later today.

unbork

Hi Chimera,

Firstly thanks very much for your work to improve the project speed. It is appreciated.

Please could you let us know when you've unborked (whatever that means Wink) the server. As has already been said I used to find that the previous single unit client would get through after 5-10 minutes of trying, now all 6 of my v1.2.0 clients are stuck retrying. One has been stuck for over 10 hours! 4 of them over 3 hours. Sad

All the best,
Mark
