[UPDATE] Path Of Least Time: May 16th, Update Three Barriers
Tuesday, May 16 2006, 07:58 PM
I have about ten minutes before my car leaves, and I still have to sort out supplies and a sleeping bag, so I'll have to be brief. Here's what happened:
I managed to get to Ryefield station at about 6pm and literally sprinted into the concourse. The place was full of bewildered and annoyed commuters who weren't able to book any tickets, and thus be allowed onto the platforms to board any trains. I barged my way through them and reached the ticket barriers for the platform. Miranda was standing there, looking towards the trains. She seemed tense, and was carrying a heavily scuffed backpack.
"Miranda," I called out.
She turned around, and looked at me with a tired smile, shaking her head in disbelief. I could hear a train approaching behind her.
"Kurt. Do you think all of this is going to stop me?" she challenged.
I took a step forward, conscious of the station staff approaching behind me. "Yes, I do. There's nowhere to go any more."
She looked away from me, quickly scanning the concourse, then drew herself up. The train for Vastage pulled up on the platform. I started walking towards her cautiously.
"Miranda," I said, "don't make a mistake."
"It's too late for that now," she replied. She spun around, threw her backpack over the tickets barriers and then vaulted herself over them. I rushed forward while the station staff attempted to open them manually. She picked up her backpack and as the train started moving off, grabbed hold of an emergency door latch, twisting it desperately. The door swung open abruptly, and she fell inside. By this time, the ticket barriers had been opened and I was running towards her.
"Don't follow me, Kurt!" shouted Miranda, closing the door. "You know what I can do to your family - to your friends - to Violet!"
The train began accelerating, and I couldn't keep pace any longer. I stopped, near the edge of the platform, as the train powered away.
That was over two hours ago.
I had the station staff call the train and put a lookout for Miranda. An initial sweep of the train didn't reveal her, but about fifteen minutes ago, a call came through with the news that she'd smashed a window halfway to Vastage, and jumped out while the train was still in motion. According to my maps, there's nothing even close to that point for a hundred miles. Miranda is going somewhere off the trail.
I still need to buy supplies and equipment so I can follow her on foot, and then there's the time it'll take my car to reach where she left the train. Once I get there, she'll be hours ahead of me. But this time - thanks to your help - I know exactly where she is, and I know that she's going to have to travel at least a hundred miles off road to get wherever she's heading. She'll be on foot, she's tired, and she's running out of Oxxypro. She won't be able to outrun me any longer.

there's got to be something out there.. she isn't stupid enough to just jump off a train in the middle of nowhere.. though I agree Kurt is off his rocker..
and did she get to the pharmacy in ryefield? they never said..

Trying to remember which direction stuff is in... but is it possible she's heading off to Viendenbourg?
Would make sense if she were military trained considering what she's already managed to pull off.

I would bet my Keers on it.

At least Miranda knows how Kurt really feels about Violet (even though he himself hasn't quite figured it out yet)

That just tottaly made my day.
In other news, is anyone else getting the temptation to keep booking train tickets under false names? It's just so darn fun!

._. Me. Stupid timezones - I missed all the fun.
Maybe we shouldn't, though? I mean, presumably it wouldn't cause as much trouble as the flooding of the police incident report system, but completely booked out, completely empty trains are sure to be noticed and commented on, and we might need the site for something else later?

She could just double back once she thinks Kurt has moved on. Get a train again at Ryefield and head anywhere else we havent found out about.

And as long as I'm handing out maps:

I had to stretch some of the lines a little bit.

Oh, well, if we use the good map (Scott's ), I think it's almost a sure bet we'll be following Little Miss Run-All-Over-The-Place to Wooster, given that it's ridiculously clost to the point where she jumped off the train.
Absolutely? No.
Pretty likely? I would bet my Keers on that one.

Ah, thanks. I totally forgot about Scarlett's map.
I still think she's military trained, though.
Random side question.... what character set are you using Scott? Every time you write an 'f' it show's up as 'fF' to me. Anyone else see that?
