I dont think there is a line seperating Northern Ireland and Ireland either, but they are still classed as seperate 'countries'

I know Im being a bit padantic, but just dont want to rule out any possibilities.

Hmmmm, changed my way of thinking..again.!

The background shows what appears to be a sea swell washing over a shore or beach. There are a variation of countries under water and the title "Mother Tongue" still has me scratching my head.. Shocked

All these are wrong by the way..:

Idea Very Happy

I've just stumbled across something totally bizaar which ties up the title of this card, the picture and Von's Hint.

I'm not going to get chance to try this for 23 and a bit hours so I'm giving very little away at this point...(Sorry! Never had a first solve before)...Aaaahgg, frustrating lock out.. Mad

I will share my new found information with you tomorrow when I've tried what could possibly be one of the three answers I have. If they all fail, I'll reveal all as this cannot be a coincidence.

Hint:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
For starters, print a copy of this card onto 2 pieces of A4 and get your pen out...

OK all. I like the team spirit on this forum so I'm not going to keep my findings from you any longer........ Very Happy

Now this could be a complete shot in the dark but seen as you guys are probably down to your last three hairs on your head with this one, here goes.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I took a scanned copy of the card and printed it off twice onto A4.
I then got hold of a pen and decided to draw around evey continent and island on both pieces of paper.
When your done, place one of the pieces face down over the other copy so they are face to face and your looking at the blank side.
Hold this up to a light and you'll see an image caused from the overlap of the continent Russia.
Now this looks pretty much to me like a Bird of Prey.

I did say that this was a shot in the dark but seen as we dont appear to be getting any closer to finding the answer, after a little investigation via the Web, I managed to pull up info which linked this to
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Von's Native Hint and the title of the card.

Its a new angle and it could be the wrong one but if I'm right, happy days..!! If I'm wrong, its another one to put on the elimination table.

Actually they moved the capital in 2000 to Bata, on the mainland.

Well I think we should be thanking you for the team spirit in sharing your idea before trying it yourself. Much appreciated. Wink

I do like your idea alot as is seems that persuing the route of finding relevance in the actual countries has sooo many variables.

Rorschach was the fella who studied the ink blot psycological tests and is definitely a route worth persuing. Bird of Prey - I wonder what that means!

My idea of what this card is supposed to mean, changes from day to day, but we must be getting somewhere. Confused Good work all

Latest inspiration was to run through the meanings for all the country names but as always not getting anything like a consistent theme. Just too many variables

Trying to be useful I have collated most of the lists already posted into one spreadsheet and added in the great map from FuseUnderground, capital cities, population and the meanings.

Does it help? Not really... but might give a prod! Confused

Hi, first post so don't be too mean.
Just a few ideas that came to me, don;t know if any will work.

1. Flags or colours of flags, I couldn't get anywhere with this but might be worth a try.

2. Are there any words that are common to the languages of all these countries. I know this is unlikely and that other englsh-speaking countries aren't included but could it be a colloquialism? (Probably wrong idea but maybe worth a shot>)

3. This may seem insanely stupid but has anyone actually tried putting in 29 countries. (I know this may be a stupid suggestion but it could be so obvious that everyine has missed it)

Sorry if none of that was helpful, thought I'd share, just in case

OK, so I just had a crazy thought reading through bertyb's ideas, and I don't have this card myself so thought I'd throw it out there for someone to try....

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Based on the Bird of Prey thing, I thought of a language that a people in various countries learn for fun.

Anyone fancy trying "Klingon"

Yeah, probably wrong I know - but it's the only moment of inspiration I've had on this one, so figured I might as well share it....
