I can get straight to the directory page of this site, but I can't get to the compass page. It's now only loading the green background and won't load the rest. When I go to www.thehansofoundation.org it won't even start to open the page. Are their servers so weak they just can't handle all the morning traffic, or is the site down?

They must be doing work to the sites - the http://www.djdan.am/ site is also acting funky (this site is hosted on the same IP address as thf and probably the compass site).

[SOLVED] 139191991471518711419.jpg

The title of the following jpg:

http://www.letyourcompassguideyou.com/usr/hmcintyr/mail/139191991471518711419.jpg

Spells out "Missing Organs" If you break the numbers up properly.

re: [SOLVED] 139191991471518711419.jpg

Nice! I was reading way too much into it, expecting the code to be more complicated.

13 9 19 19 9 14 7 15 18 7 1 14 19
m i s s i n g o r g a n s

So another indication of coming importance for missing organs.

Yeah, the compass is also on 64.207.133.244. I don't think this is a consequence of doing work to the sites, though - looking at the exact responses, it seems like the server is just overloaded. This is why most ARGs have different sites on different servers. It's also why they don't usually use so much swf.

On a totally separate subject, the MISSINGORGANS thing; maybe it's supposed to be "missing org, ans"? If you remove "org" and "ans" from thehansofoundation.org, you get "the ho foundation," which seems to align with Persephone's opinion of them.

Glad I'm not the only one! I've been clearing my cookies and panicking there was something wrong with my computer or something!

[SOURCE] Hugh's Docs

It looks like Hugh didn't write his .logout script well enough.

Here's .logout:
Code:
# Make sure to delete all backup files left by $HOME/bin/rm upon logout!
/bin/rm -rf $HOME/bak./*

It looks like he has a custom rm that backs up files until he logs out. There's an extra '.' that prevents it from working correctly, though. That's why he still has a $HOME/bak/ directory.

Here's .bash-history:
Code:
ls -al
vim .screenrc
screen -R work
pine -i
scp biz:docs/dcx_rfp.doc .
scp biz:docs/dcx_contract.doc .
trm dcx*
rm dcx_*.doc

He modified .screenrc, created a virtual terminal running an app called work. He then checked his mail, downloaded two documents, and then removed those documents (Nice how they have him typoing the first rm).

Now, because of the botched .logout, $HOME/bak still exists. If you try:
http://www.letyourcompassguideyou.com/usr/hmcintyr/bak/dcx_rfp.doc
or
http://www.letyourcompassguideyou.com/usr/hmcintyr/bak/dcx_contract.doc
you'll notice that they forward you to Peter Thompson's documents.

So the story is that Hugh downloads the files, forwards them to Peter, who then downloads them locally. While not useful in itself, it does show that the directory structure can be analyzed to determine what people have been doing. Perhaps we can find more if we keep going with it.

In the 'Contract' document, is there something hidden under the black smudge at the bottom?

It seems to have a grid/row of squares under that black...

That one had my attention as well. At least until I found the "unsmudged" version on one of the other documents - it's just the DaimlerChrysler stamp thingy with logos.

Coooool. I totally missed that typo. Now that I'm looking at the file names, I see that the "dcx" is Daimler-Chrysler's stock-ticker symbol.

Where is the mail file for Jacob Vanderfield from the board of directors....all the others have one exepct for him (I think)

Could this be a clue?

EDIT - His directory is definitely not listed, however if you type in this in the address bar:

http://www.letyourcompassguideyou.com/usr/jvanderf/

It will bring up the forbidden page with the namaste sign off......if you type his name in slightly different, you just get a typical "not found" page instead...

So, his directory exists, but its not listed....

Hey, I think the "if you are one, know one" is nothing. If you look at the clipping here http://www.tinypic.com/view/?pic=xlxyt3 under it to the left you can see "love o" and half of a n. They probably just wanted it to look very real.[/url]

It's... the other side of the page.

Newspaper paper is so thin that you see the other side when you scan it.

Kudos to them for making it so... accurate.
